Steelers signed LB Brandon Johnson, formerly of the Bengals.

Johnson spent the past four seasons with the Bengals as one of the league's top reserve linebackers and special teamers. He'll play the same role in Pittsburgh, adding depth inside following James Farrior's exit. TE Wes Lyons and WR Connor Dixon were waived to create roster space.

The Pittsburgh-Cincinnati pipeline has traditionally run the opposite direction -- downstream. A top reserve the past few seasons, Johnson would provide insurance inside for the Steelers after cutting ties with James Farrior.

Bengals re-signed LB Brandon Johnson.

Re-signing Johnson became a greater priority for Cincinnati after Roddrick Muckelroy ruptured his Achilles on Saturday. He doesn't have a clear path to a starting role after the Bengals signed Manny Lawson on Monday, but should still see plenty of snaps this season.

Bengals.com confirms the team would like to re-sign free agent LB Brandon Johnson and DL Jonathan Fanene.

Both players have been key cogs in Mike Zimmer's nickel defense. A top reserve the past couple of years, Johnson may be seeking a starting job on the open market. Installing him as the strong-side linebacker in Cincy makes more sense than pushing special teamer Dan Skuta into the role.

Free agent LB Brandon Johnson is the latest player to say he's been enjoying the lockout.

"I'm actually kind of enjoying my time off," he said. "I get a lot of family time in, I get to kick it with my friends, get do a lot of traveling. I don’t have to spend eight hours at the stadium." Somebody will be getting a call from the former NFLPA, and possibly quoted in court by the NFL's lawyers later this summer.

Restricted free agent LB Brandon Johnson will receive a second-round tender from the Bengals.

The second-round tender will pay Johnson $1.759 million. He got the same tender last year from the team. Johnson recorded 58 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2009 as Cincinnati's utility linebacker.

Bengals OLB Brandon Johnson could miss up to four weeks after suffering an apparently serious hamstring injury during Sunday's practice.

Johnson is Keith Rivers' top backup on the weak side. The Bengals are now down a couple of key reserves, having already lost nickel back David Jones to a potentially serious foot injury. Johnson appears to be week to week.

Johnson was Cincinnati's most productive linebacker down the stretch last year, amassing 83 tackles and two interceptions on the weak side after Keith Rivers' injury. Johnson will be the Bengals' utility linebacker this year.

The Bengals extended LB Brandon Johnson a second-round ($1.545 million) restricted free agent tender.

After taking over for Keith Rivers as the team's starting weak-side 'backer last year, Johnson settled in with 53 tackles and two interceptions in Cincy's last seven games. He probably won't start in 2009, but is too good to let go.

Brandon Johnson will take over as the Bengals' starting weak-side linebacker with Keith Rivers (jaw) headed for IR.

Johnson was highly productive in the preseason and will have tons of tackle chances playing WILL 'backer in Cincinnati's scheme. He may not be the playmaker Rivers was, but Johnson has easy 6-7 tackle per week potential.

Brandon Johnson has been elevated to starting weak-side linebacker on the Bengals' latest training camp depth chart.

Johnson, who Carson Palmer called the team's MVP through the first week of camp, is ahead of Jim Maxwell and unsigned rookie Keith Rivers. This is a very tackle-friendly position. The winner could easily reach 100 stops.

Bengals WLB Brandon Johnson has made a big impression early in camp and racked up five tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, in Friday's intersquad scrimmage.

He stuffed Dan Coats on second down and sniffed out an Andre Caldwell reverse to force a punt in the practice game. Keith Rivers is Cincy's WILL 'backer of the future, but he'll have ground to make up when his holdout ends.
