Jets S Dawan Landry worked with the second-team defense during spring practices.
Landry will need a strong camp if he wants to crack the starting lineup. Rookie S Calvin Pryor is almost guaranteed to start, and S Antonio Allen is the clear front-runner for the other starting job. Even though Landry is unlikely to start, he should see plenty of snaps in the Jets' three-safety alignment. Jun 28 - 10:02 AM

Jets SS Dawan Landry has been working with the third-team defense at OTAs.

Coach Rex Ryan said to not read much into it, but we're going to. Landry is due a $1.5 million base salary in the final year of his deal and is entering his age-32 season. He's reliable and hasn't missed a start in five seasons, but Landry simply doesn't make plays. He has just two interceptions, one sack, and zero forced fumbles the past two seasons. The Jets drafted Calvin Pryor in the first round and are high on Antonio Allen. Landry would be a capable No. 3.

Jets agreed to terms with SS Dawan Landry, formerly of the Jaguars, on a two-year, $3 million contract.

He'll replace his brother, LaRon, who moved on to the Colts after turning in a Pro Bowl season in 2012. Dawan has been a full-time starter since coming into the league in 2006, but is coming off a sub-par campaign for the lowly Jags. Primarily a run-stopper, Dawan should benefit from his reunion with coach Rex Ryan, who served as his defensive coordinator with the Ravens from 2006-08.

Free agent S Dawan Landry is visiting the Jets on Wednesday.

He's a candidate to replace brother LaRon, though Dawan is coming off a sub-par campaign for the Jaguars. Primarily a run stopper, Landry struggled in coverage last season. He was cut earlier this month. He'll come cheap, which is what the rebuilding, cap-strapped Jets need. Gang Green has holes all over its back seven.

The New York Daily News reports the Jets are interested in free agent S Dawan Landry.

Why not add another Landry? The Jets had Dawan's brother, LaRon, in New York last season, but he recently bolted for greener pastures in Indianapolis. Dawan, the elder brother at 30 years old, was released by the Jaguars last week. He had 100 tackles last year as more of an in-the-box safety.

Jaguars released S Dawan Landry.

LaRon's brother signed a five-year, $27.5 million deal after the lockout, but was a disappointment in two years with Jacksonville. He graded out negatively in Pro Football Focus' ratings in each of 2011 and 2012, underwhelming against the run while intercepting just three passes. The Jags are so eager to move on they're willing to eat $3.9 million in "dead money," and only cleared $1.45 million in salary cap space. They're remaking former GM Gene Smith's broken roster from the bottom up.

Jaguars agreed to terms with S Dawan Landry, formerly of the Ravens.

Ed Reed's running mate jumps to a secondary that ranked 29th against the pass a year ago. He'll step right in as a starter, possibly at free safety so thumper Courtney Greene can stick at strong safety. It's a start for the Jaguars as they try to repair their pass defense.

Free agent SS Dawan Landry is on the verge of a five-year deal with the Jaguars.

The Jags are going to settle for Landry after missing out on the top prize, Eric Weddle. Look for a deal to be finalized as soon as this morning.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora is confident that free agent SS Dawan Landry will land with the Jaguars.

The Florida Times Union has also reported on the Jags' interest in Landry. Jacksonville missed out on Eric Weddle when he re-signed with the Chargers Wednesday, so their sights now look to be set on Ed Reed's old running mate. Somewhat surprisingly, free agent Michael Huff is generating no buzz.

Free agent SS Dawan Landry wants to re-sign with the Ravens.

"I'd rather be a Raven," Landry said. "I feel like we've built something here, and there's great chemistry on the team. I think we're almost at that next level. A play here and a play there and we would’ve been in the Super Bowl." Landry will likely get a higher offer elsewhere, so that sentiment will be put to the test.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora believes the Ravens will make a "real strong run" at keeping free agent SS Dawan Landry.

LaCanfora is on his own here, suggesting Landry will join OG Marshall Yanda as a priority. It's widely believed that Landry will be seeking a deal in the $5 million-per-year range, a number the Ravens aren't likely to match with Tom Zbikowski ready to step in as the starter.

The Baltimore Sun passes along "speculation around the NFL" that free agent Dawan Landry will be targeting a contract that pays him $5 million a year when transactions are re-allowed.

It's not quite Antrel Rolle money (five years, $37 million), but is definitely in the O.J. Atogwe (five years, $26 million) range. There's no chance the Ravens would pay Landry that kind of coin. Tom Zbikowski is the heavy favorite to start at strong safety for the Ravens in 2011. Landry has been linked to Dallas, and old DC Rex Ryan in New York could also have interest.

The Cowboys' website floats free agent SS Dawan Landry as a possible offseason target for Dallas.

Landry's free agency could wind up restricted if the 2011 season is played under a lockout injunction, but the Ravens have a history of letting Ed Reed's running mate at safety walk (Will Demps, Jim Leonhard). Landry would be somewhat familiar with Cowboys DC Rob Ryan's scheme after playing for brother Rex early in his career. Dallas has two glaring needs at safety.

Citing the Ravens' history at strong safety, the Baltimore Sun does not expect free agent Dawan Landry to be re-signed this year.

The Ravens have twice let the starter opposite Ed Reed walk (Will Demps, Jim Leonhard), turning the position over to in-house replacements. If Landry gets to the bidding-war stage, the team will have no qualms about pushing Tom Zbikowski or Haruki Nakamura into the starting lineup.

The Ravens are interested in re-signing free agent SS Dawan Landry, a five-year veteran.

"Dawan wants to be a Raven and we want him to be a Raven," said coach John Harbaugh. Landry could draw plenty of interest on the open market due to a weak rookie class at safety. He may end up restricted, though, if the NFL defaults to last year's free agent rules.
