The NFL has lifted the suspension on Giants DT Jimmy Kennedy.

Kennedy got a four-game ban for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. The Giants now have a roster exemption to decide if they want to activate him onto their 53-man roster. Kennedy was serving as a rotational run-stopper before the ban.

Giants DT Jimmy Kennedy has reportedly been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

It's not yet known which substance Kennedy abused. He had been playing fewer than 15 snaps per week as situational run-stuffer. The suspension will kick in this week, though it's not a major loss for the G-Men. Rocky Bernard and Dave Tollefson will see increased snaps.

Giants signed DT Jimmy Kennedy, formerly of the Vikings.

We knew this signing was coming last week. The 31-year-old Kennedy suddenly has a great chance to make the roster after Marvin Austin's season-ending pectoral tear. Kennedy is still a big downgrade from Austin in terms of talent.

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Giants will sign free agent DT Jimmy Kennedy.

Kennedy worked out for the G-Men on Wednesday, and a defensive line need has arisen with Osi Umenyiora (knee) possibly out until October. Kennedy is 31 years old and was unproductive last season, so this isn't an impact signing.

The Giants worked out free agent DT Jimmy Kennedy on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old would be a rotational gap shooter in New York, though he finished last season with 0.5 sacks. Kennedy revealed his weight is down to 304.

Vikings informed DT Jimmy Kennedy of his release.

No shocker here. Kennedy failed to live up to his $6 million extension signed in March of 2010, earning just 11.5% of the Vikings' defensive snaps last season. The 31-year-old drew interest from the Bills at the time, but that's no longer a great need in Buffalo. Beat writer Tom Pelissero suggests the Vikes could be freeing up space to re-sign NT Pat Williams.

Vikings DT Jimmy Kennedy "did nothing to justify" his two-year, $5 million contract in 2010, according to 1500 ESPN Twin Cities' Tom Pelissero.

Kennedy pissed and moaned about his lack of playing time in October, but had just one impressive performance all season. The 31-year-old was inactive seven times. If the Vikes are truly rebuilding, his $2.5 million salary makes no sense in 2011.

Vikings DT Jimmy Kennedy is "frustrated as hell" with his limited role early this season.

"I'm pissed off with playing 15 plays last game," Kennedy said. "I'm pissed off being under 30 snaps for the season. I'm never a cancer. That won't happen. But look, as a competitor, I damn sure don't like standing on the sidelines playing cheerleader." Kennedy is a fine reserve, but his playing time is unlikely to increase barring injury to one of the members of the Williams Wall.

Vikings re-signed DT Jimmy Kennedy to a two-year, $6 million contract.

Kennedy was seeking a starting job in free agency, which the Bills were apparently unwilling to guarantee. Instead, he'll return to Minnesota as a rotational lineman behind Kevin Williams and Pat Williams. Now 31, the former 12th overall pick has done a nice job of salvaging what was once a busted career.

Free agent DL Jimmy Kennedy said on Friday that he's looking for a chance to start with the Bills if he is signed.

Kennedy would likely battle Spencer Johnson to play one of the end spots opposite Marcus Stroud but could also spell Kyle Williams at nose tackle. Kennedy had three sacks as a rotational player for the Vikings in 2009.

The Bills will host free agent DL Jimmy Kennedy on Thursday.

Kennedy, who's never played in a two-game scheme like Buffalo is installing, would presumably play end for defensive coordinator George Edwards. The former first-round pick had three sacks as a rotational gap-shooter last year.

Vikings declared DL Jimmy Kennedy, WR Jaymar Johnson, CB Karl Paymah, TE Garrett Mills, LB Jeremy Leman, C Jon Cooper, DL Jayme Mitchell and QB Sage Rosenfels inactive for Week 17 against the Giants.

Pat Williams and Antoine Winfield are both active, but Winfield is expected to see limited snaps. Kennedy's regular season ends after 18 tackles and three sacks. At age 30, the 2003 first-round pick has finally made a career for himself as a situational pass-rushing reserve.

Vikings re-signed DT Jimmy Kennedy.

The former Rams first-round pick isn't an answer for Minnesota's depth woes behind Kevin and Pat Williams. Kennedy will compete just to make the roster.
Wed, Mar 11, 2009 03:03:00 PM

Vikings signed DT Jimmy Kennedy, formerly of the Jaguars.

The 6'4/325-pound former first-round flop will add depth behind Ellis Wyms, Fred Evans, and Letroy Guion. Kennedy is unlikely to make a large impact.
