Redskins waived DT Anthony Montgomery.
Montgomery was a backup tackle under the previous regime, but he likely wasn't viewed as a fit in the new 3-4 scheme. Montgomery is only 26 and goes 6'6/330, so he'll have a chance to latch on elsewhere. Mon, May 3, 2010 11:43:00 AM

Redskins re-signed restricted free agent DT Anthony Montgomery to a one-year, $1.176 million contract.

A reserve tackle in Washington's old 4-3, Montgomery may be asked to shed some weight and play the "five technique" defensive end position. The 6'6/330-pounder managed just four tackles in seven 2009 appearances.

The Redskins assigned an original pick tender to restricted free agent DL Anthony Montgomery.

Montgomery hasn't lived up to his potential, dating back to his days as a Minnesota Gopher, so he'll be available in exchange for a fifth-round pick. If he does stay with the Skins, the 6'6/330-pounder may kick out to end.

The Redskins are reportedly shopping DT Anthony Montgomery.

After losing his starting job to Albert Haynesworth, Montgomery has yet to be active for a game this season. The Redskins aren't likely to get more than a conditional late-round pick if they succeed in dealing him.

Redskins DT Anthony Montgomery is "very unhappy" about losing his starting job to Albert Haynesworth, according to FOXSports.com.

FOX's John Czarnecki suggests a trade to Carolina, which remains desperate for interior help even after Tuesday's acquisition of Louis Leonard. Montgomery has starting experience and a 6'6/312 frame. However, the Skins are usually in the business of giving up draft picks, not acquiring them.

The Redskins extended a low tender ($1.01 million) to restricted free agent DT Anthony Montgomery.

Montgomery may generate some interest. He'd only cost a fifth-round pick for a team to acquire via offer sheet. Montgomery lost his starting job to Kedric Golston last season, but is a massive man at 6'5/312 and is only 25.

Redskins DT Anthony Montgomery will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee shortly.

Montgomery, a key rotational piece for Washington's eighth-ranked run defense, is also entering restricted free agency. The surgery is just a routine procedure and he figures to at least get a second-round tender this spring.

He's expected to be out 2-4 weeks, which means he could miss most of camp. Montgomery is an important part of the 'Skins defense, so getting him ready for Week One will be a priority.
