Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgeries) is now participating fully at OTAs.
A predictable free-agent flop in 2012, Anderson missed all but five games in his first season with Buffalo after signing a four-year, $20 million contract. His year was primarily derailed by two knee surgeries to repair lateral meniscus damage. Anderson remains the Bills' best pass rusher beyond Mario Williams, so he's likely ticketed for a big role in Mike Pettine's new defense. May 15 - 4:51 PM

Bills RE Mark Anderson is expected back with the team in 2013.

Buffalo signed Anderson to a four-year, $19.5 million contract last offseason, but he was a major flop as he battled a knee injury. He played in just five games and registered one sack. There was some uncertainty about Anderson's future with the Bills, but the new coaching staff is reportedly "anxious" to see him at full health. Anderson is due a total of $4 million this season.

Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) has been ruled out for Week 17.

It's fair to wonder if Anderson's stay in Buffalo will span just one season. Anderson was active once after Week 5 following in-season knee surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus. Anderson ultimately underwent another surgery, and still couldn't get on the field. After a disappointing, one-sack season, Anderson is due a $2.4 million salary and $1.5 million option bonus in 2013.

The Bills have ruled out DE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) for Week 16.

Anderson was active last week against Seattle and practiced on a limited basis Friday, but still isn't healthy enough to return. The Bills are likely regretting not placing him on injured reserve earlier in the season. Anderson hasn't appeared in a game since Week 5 and will likely finish 2012 with just one sack. He's signed through 2015.

Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) has finally resumed practicing.

"He was in more (drills) today and made more progress today," said coach Chan Gailey. "It's encouraging for him to be ready for this week." Gailey said Anderson will likely be eased back in if he does play versus the Seahawks. Anderson hasn't suited up since Week 5.

Bills RE Mark Anderson revealed his knee injury to be a torn lateral meniscus.

"They had to go in and scope it out," said Anderson. "Then it had a little catch in it, and then we had to re-scope it." Anderson will miss his eighth consecutive game Sunday and remains without a timetable for a return. If he doesn't make progress next week, injured reserve could come into play.

Bills RE Mark Anderson has undergone another procedure on his ailing knee, and will be sidelined an additional 2-3 weeks.

It means Anderson will likely return Week 14 at the earliest, and is becoming a candidate for injured reserve. Anderson first went down in Week 5. Six months shy of his 30th birthday, Anderson is due a $1.5 million option bonus in the offseason. Chris Kelsay will continue to start opposite Mario Williams in his absence.

Bills RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) has suffered a setback, and could require another surgery that would sideline him an additional 2-3 weeks.

It's been pouring in Buffalo for weeks now. Anderson last played in Week 5, and will now be up against it to take the field before December. He's a $19.5 million investment that's yet to pay dividends for the sinking Bills. For now, Chris Kelsay will continue to start opposite Mario Williams.

Bills coach Chan Gailey believes RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) could return as early as Week 9.

Anderson was given a "3-9 week" timetable after going down in Week 5, so Week 9 would be firmly within the realm of possibility. The Bills are on bye in Week 8. Mario Williams' expensive bookend, Anderson notched just one sack in five games before getting hurt.

Bills declared RE Mark Anderson, OLs Kraig Urbik, Cordy Glenn, and Reggie Wells, LB Kirk Morrison, and DT Spencer Johnson inactive for Week 6 against the Cardinals.

Head coach Chan Gailey gave RE Mark Anderson (knee surgery) a loose timetable for return at "three-to-nine weeks."

"I'm probably wrong two or three weeks either way. I don't know where yet. I think once we get a week of rehab in we'll have a much better idea," said Gailey. This just confirms that it's not likely to be a season-ender for Anderson and the Bills. Veteran Chris Kelsay will fill in opposite Mario Williams in the meantime.

Bills RE Mark Anderson is out indefinitely after Monday's MRI apparently revealed extensive damage to his injured knee.

He requires surgery. There are no indications that this is a season-ender, but the Bills don't expect their $20 million addition playing anytime soon. Buffalo's offseason defensive makeover has backfired spectacularly, with Anderson's absence adding injury to insult. Through five weeks, the Bills rank 31st in both yards and points allowed. They're averaging two sacks per game. Anderson had one of those sacks and a dozen tackles. He figures to be replaced by Chris Kelsay.
