The Bills are likely regretting not placing him on injured reserve earlier in the season. Anderson hasn't appeared in a game since Week 5 and will likely finish 2012 with just one sack. He's signed through 2015.

"He was in more (drills) today and made more progress today," said coach Chan Gailey. "It's encouraging for him to be ready for this week." Gailey said Anderson will likely be eased back in if he does play versus the Seahawks. Anderson hasn't suited up since Week 5.

Bills RE Mark Anderson revealed his knee injury to be a torn lateral meniscus.

"They had to go in and scope it out," said Anderson. "Then it had a little catch in it, and then we had to re-scope it." Anderson will miss his eighth consecutive game Sunday and remains without a timetable for a return. If he doesn't make progress next week, injured reserve could come into play.

It's been pouring in Buffalo for weeks now. Anderson last played in Week 5, and will now be up against it to take the field before December. He's a $19.5 million investment that's yet to pay dividends for the sinking Bills. For now, Chris Kelsay will continue to start opposite Mario Williams.

Anderson has now been out a month. Chris Kelsay gets another start opposite Mario Williams, who says he is feeling fine after wrist surgery. The Bills will also be without RT Erik Pears (hip), giving Chris Hairston the nod. The rest of their inactives: K John Potter, QB Tarvaris Jackson, CB Terrence McGee, SS Delano Howell and OLB Kirk Morrison.

Anderson was given a "3-9 week" timetable after going down in Week 5, so Week 9 would be firmly within the realm of possibility. The Bills are on bye in Week 8. Mario Williams' expensive bookend, Anderson notched just one sack in five games before getting hurt.

Anderson is out indefinitely with a knee injury, and veteran Chris Kelsay will get the start at right defensive end. Chris Hairston will start at left tackle, and Chad Rinehart gets the nod at right guard. Tarvaris Jackson is the third quarterback.

"I'm probably wrong two or three weeks either way. I don't know where yet. I think once we get a week of rehab in we'll have a much better idea," said Gailey. This just confirms that it's not likely to be a season-ender for Anderson and the Bills. Veteran Chris Kelsay will fill in opposite Mario Williams in the meantime.

Bills RE Mark Anderson is out indefinitely after Monday's MRI apparently revealed extensive damage to his injured knee.

He requires surgery. There are no indications that this is a season-ender, but the Bills don't expect their $20 million addition playing anytime soon. Buffalo's offseason defensive makeover has backfired spectacularly, with Anderson's absence adding injury to insult. Through five weeks, the Bills rank 31st in both yards and points allowed. They're averaging two sacks per game. Anderson had one of those sacks and a dozen tackles. He figures to be replaced by Chris Kelsay.

Anderson was injured in Sunday's blowout loss to the 49ers. He has 12 tackles and a sack on the season so far. Anderson and Mario Williams, Buffalo's other high-priced defensive end, have combined for just 2.5 sacks.
