Redskins S Reed Doughty is recovering from offseason surgery on his right toe.
He's expected to be ready for OTAs, indicating the surgery took place just after the season. Doughty appeared in all 16 games last season, making 10 starts and recording 69 tackles with one interception. The Redskins prefer him as a rotational, early-down No. 3 safety because Doughty is limited in pass coverage. Apr 8 - 2:14 PM

Redskins re-signed SS Reed Doughty to a three-year contract.

Doughty's market must have been exceptionally soft, as he's returning to an overcrowded Redskins' secondary after there were no public reports of interest in his services. He figures to be used primarily on running downs this season, though LaRon Landry's slow recovery from an Achilles injury may open up a bigger window for playing time.

The Redskins' addition of O.J. Atogwe may bring an end to SS Reed Doughty's time in Washington.

Doughty is an excellent run defender and can hold his own in coverage, so he should be in the mix for starting jobs around the league. Currently, the Redskins have seven safeties under contract for 2011. Doughty probably isn't in the plans behind Atogwe, LaRon Landry, Kareem Moore, and Chris Horton.

Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that SS Reed Doughty suffered a concussion in the Redskins' Week 15 loss to Dallas.

Doughty has racked up 35 tackles (23 solo) and a sack over the last month after replacing LaRon Landry (injured reserve, Achilles), so he'd be a loss for IDP leaguers. The Redskins have the Jaguars up next on the schedule.

Redskins S Reed Doughty left Sunday's game against the Cowboys in the second quarter with a head injury and is questionable to return.

The Redskins are already really thin at safety with LaRon Landry out. Kevin Barnes has come on and gotten run over twice.

Redskins S Reed Doughty will again fill in for an injured LaRon Landry (out, achilles) in Week 12 at home against Minnesota.

Doughty not only started at strong safety Week 11 at Tennessee, he played every snap on both defense and special teams for the injury-ravaged Redskins. Although Doughty lacks Landry's athleticism, his toughness and motor have impressed defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. Doughty may be given a similar workload against Brett Favre and the Vikings, making him a sneaky IDP play.

Beat writer Jason Reid confirms that Reed Doughty is expected to start at free safety against the Cowboys Sunday night.

Doughty is filling in for Kareem Moore (knee), who will likely miss at least two weeks. Doughty gets the nod over Chris Horton and should put up decent tackle numbers. He is a liability in coverage, however, upgrading the matchup for Jason Witten and Miles Austin.

Reed Doughty stepped in at free safety on Saturday when Kareem Moore went down with a knee injury.

Moore is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL. After coming on strong late last season as a run-stuffer, Doughty is the heavy favorite to start over Chris Horton. In seven starts last season, Doughty posted 48 tackles and one interception. He's just not going to be an asset in coverage.

Updating a previous item, Redskins FS Reed Doughty did suffer a broken bone in his hand during OTAs.

It doesn't sound serious, though. Doughty plans to continue to participate in the rest of the Redskins' offseason practices. He'll play the next couple of weeks with a cast on his hand.

Redskins FS Reed Doughty reportedly suffered a hand/wrist injury in Thursday's practice.

Chris Russell of 106.7 The FAN in D.C. was told that Doughty was already in a cast. Doughty would not confirm or deny that he has a broken bone. It will be interesting to see how serious the injury is and if it affects the team's potential pursuit of free agent O.J. Atogwe.

Redskins re-signed restricted free agent FS Reed Doughty to a one-year, $1.759 million contract.

Doughty started at strong safety for much of last season, excelling as a run defender with 91 tackles. However, he was a liability in pass coverage, and will do even more of it as Washington's likely starting free safety. It's a risk, with LaRon Landry as the Skins' primary "in the box" defensive back.

Both Kareem Moore and Reed Doughty saw first-unit snaps at free safety during this weekend's minicamp.

Chris Horton, who is recovering from toe surgery, will be part of the battle as well. Doughty is the most effective of the group and held the starting job down the stretch last season. We'd expect him to win out.

The Redskins assigned restricted free agent SS Reed Doughty a second-round tender, according to beat writer Jason Reid.

Doughty will make $1.75M in 2010. He came on strong last season and took over as the starting strong safety ahead of Chris Horton. The run-stopper will be valuable in the 'Skins' new 3-4 scheme.

Redskins placed SS Reed Doughty on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain, ending his season.

Doughty was a big part of a Redskins defense that excelled for most of the year. He finishes up with 91 tackles, two sacks and one interception. The run-stopping safety is a restricted free agent this offseason.

Redskins SS Reed Doughty (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Profootballfocus.com's Pro Bowl nominee at strong safety suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys. Though average in coverage, Doughty has excelled in run support all season.
