Bills placed ILB Keith Ellison (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Ellison is set to become a free agent this offseason, and his ability to rehab from his knee injury will dictate the value and length of his next contract. The odds are stacked against him returning to Buffalo, however. Sat, Nov 27, 2010 01:41:00 PM

Coach Chan Gailey confirmed Wednesday that Keith Ellison will start at inside linebacker until Paul Posluszny (knee) returns.

Akin Ayodele will be the first inside 'backer off the bench. Ellison, a converted safety whose best role is as a cover linebacker, presents a massive drop-off from the run-tough Posluszny. (As if Buffalo's run defense could be any worse.) This will make it very tough to sit Brandon Jackson in Week 2.

Fifth-year LB Keith Ellison is on the roster bubble thanks to the Bills' switch to the 3-4.

At 6'1/230, Ellison is too small to play inside in the 3-4. He's been lining up with the second unit during offseason workouts, but that may change now that Reggie Torbor is in town. He'll need to make an impact on special teams.

Bills re-signed restricted free agent LB Keith Ellison to a one-year, $1.176 million contract.

Ellison, 26, has been an on-and-off starter at both outside linebacker positions since entering the league in 2006. Highly injury prone and a liability against the run, he'll be phased out with Buffalo transitioning to the 3-4.

The Bills extended a low (original pick) tender to restricted free agent LB Keith Ellison.

Ellison is injury prone and a liability against the run, but the Bills wouldn't mind keeping him as a special teamer and nickel linebacker. The former safety won't appeal to many teams, even as a former sixth-round pick.

Bills placed OLB Keith Ellison (quadriceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Ellison presumably tore his quads when he went down early this month. 26 in February, Ellison is eligible for free agency in the offseason. He was averaging an outstanding 8.5 tackles per game before the injury, but would be a backup/nickel linebacker on a good team. Ellison doesn't play the run well.

Bills LB Keith Ellison left Sunday's game in the second quarter with a quadriceps injury and did not return.

Rookie Nic Harris stepped in and saw his first action at linebacker since the preseason while Texans RB Ryan Moats went on to have a career day. The Bills have not updated Ellison's status.

Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell revealed that Keith Ellison is not a lock to start at strong-side linebacker.

The Bills tried and failed to land Piso Tinoisamoa and will keep their eyes peeled for other options. Rookie Nic Harris, last year's fifth-rounder Alvin Bowen and free agent signee Pat Thomas are the unexciting in-house options to replace Ellison.

Bills signed restricted free agent OLB Keith Ellison to a one-year, $1.01 million contract.

Ellison, 25, has started 30 games in his three-year career. He doesn't play the run well, however, and is much better suited for a nickel linebacker role. He figures to open the season as a backup at both the SAM and WILL.

Bills LBs Keith Ellison (ankle) and Teddy Lehman (hamstring) were unable to practice Wednesday.

The Bills may be forced to move DB Bryan Scott to linebacker if Ellison and Lehman aren't ready. That would present a nice opportunity for the 49ers' running game.

Bills LB Keith Ellison was injured briefly in the team's Week 3 game.

Ellison took a punishing blow to the head from Darren McFadden on a third-quarter run. The strong-side linebacker walked off and appears fine.

Bills coach Dick Jauron confirmed that the knee injury WLB Keith Ellison suffered in the team's season finale isn't serious.

"It's just a strain," Jauron said. "Nothing came up on the MRI." Ellison finished his second season with an unimpressive 39 tackles in 12 games.

Bills LBs Keith Ellison (knee) and Angelo Crowell (arm) both left Sunday's game with injuries.

Its uncertain if either injury is serious, but they have plenty of time to rehab. While Crowell enjoyed a good season, Ellison's production fell off dramatically. John DiGiorgio could challenge him to start next season.

Bills WLB Keith Ellison (ankle) returned to the starting lineup Monday night.

Teams will be running on Buffalo all season, so Ellison is an attractive IDP. He's also a good cover linebacker and will be in position to rack up stops.

Despite returning to practice this week, Bills weak side linebacker Keith Ellison (ankle) is not expected to start in Monday night's contest.

It looks like Mario Haggan or Leon Joe will get the nod on the weak side, with Angelo Crowell staying at SAM. Ellison should be back at full strength soon.
