Recently reinstated Packers DE Johnny Jolly is expected to attend offseason workouts.
Jolly, suspended on drug charges the previous three years, was reinstated by Roger Goodell on March 4th. Now 30 years old, there is no guarantee he'll make the team, but the Packers are willing to give him an opportunity. The defensive end has been working out on his own, but there's no telling what kind of shape he's in until he resumes team workouts. Apr 16 - 4:40 PM

The Packers have slashed DE Johnny Jolly's salary from $2.5 million to $715,000.

The deal frees up $1.8 million in cap space and puts Green Bay at $18 million under. Fresh out of the penitentiary, 30-year-old Jolly should be thankful GM Ted Thompson is giving him an opportunity to resurrect his career. Jolly has been out of football since the 2009 season, when he was a 16-game starter.

NFL reinstated suspended Packers DE Johnny Jolly.

Jolly was serving an indefinite suspension for repeated violations of the league's substance-abuse policy. He got out of jail last May after serving six months of a six-year sentence on drug charges, and first applied for reinstatement in June. The Packers still own Jolly's rights, but are likely to renounce them. Jolly hasn't played a down of football since 2009.

Indefinitely suspended Packers DE Johnny Jolly has applied for reinstatement to the NFL.

Jolly was released from prison in May after serving just six months of a six-year sentence on drug charges. "I know that the NFL doesn’t need me," Jolly said. "I need it way more than it needs me." Jolly says he's in "pretty good shape," but turned 29 in prison and hasn't appeared in a game since 2009. He's facing tough odds of ever getting back on the field.

Former Packers DE Johnny Jolly was granted his release from prison just six months into a six-year sentence.

The judge gave Jolly "shock probation," granted when a convict is released early after experiencing a wake-up call from the shock of prison. Jolly will remain on probation for 10 years after being arrested four times for illegal possession of codeine. He has been suspended indefinitely from the NFL.

Former Packers DE Johnny Jolly is seeking an early release from his six-year prison term.

Jolly has been in jail for just six months following his conviction on drug possession charges, but has applied for "shock probation." Shock probation allows first-time offenders to be released after experiencing the "trauma of being in jail." Already 29 and indefinitely suspended, it's doubtful Jolly will ever appear in another NFL game even if he earns his freedom.

Suspended Packers DE Johnny Jolly was sentenced to six years in prison for violating the terms of his probation for possessing drugs and tampering with evidence.

Jolly has been arrested three times in the past four years for possession of the codeine drink "Sizzurp." He recently described codeine as his "only friend" because it kept him numb. Suspended during last year's Super Bowl run, Jolly explained, "I didn't want to be around anyone. I didn't want to answer no questions. And so I stayed in the room, just drunk, and watched." The 28-year-old's football career is over.

Suspended Packers DE Johnny Jolly was arrested and charged on Saturday with possessing drugs and tampering with evidence.

Jolly is serving an indefinite suspension as he had three drug possession charges against him before this weekend. He has now been charged with possession of a narcotic compound containing codeine and other substances, a felony. Jolly's NFL career is in jeopardy and he may be looking at jail time.

In what counts as a major surprise, Packers DE Johnny Jolly will avoid jail time for a 2008 drug possession charge after agreeing to a plea deal with prosecutors.

As part of the deal, his codeine possession charge from late March was dropped altogether. Jolly had been facing up to 20 years in prison for the two charges. Instead, he'll be placed on probation while receiving mandatory drug treatment at a facility in Houston run by former NBA player John Lucas. Jolly remains under indefinite NFL suspension. We wouldn't bank on Commissioner Goodell intervening any time soon, but there's now a chance Jolly will play at some point in 2011.

Packers DE Johnny Jolly was denied bond Wednesday for his latest drug-related arrest in Houston.

Jolly's next hearing is scheduled for April 20. The only reason he escaped jail time for his previous arrest, in which he was accused of playing a significant role in the Houston drug trade, is because he agreed to a one-year pretrial diversion. He lasted just seventh months before police caught him with "sizzurp" again. It's worth noting that SI's Peter King predicted last year that Jolly's troubles were severe enough that he would never again play in the NFL.

Packers DE Johnny Jolly is expected to see "significant" jail time for his latest drug arrest.

ESPN.com NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert suspects the Packers have "trashed" any plans they have had for Jolly in 2011. We'd go a step further and suggest Jolly has played his last game in the NFL.

CBS Houston reports that Packers DE Johnny Jolly was arrested for possession of codeine on Friday morning.

He's not going to play in the NFL again. Jolly, 28, was already under a league-imposed indefinite ban for being a prominent member of the Houston drug trade from 2006 through May of 2008. The former Packers starter was booked at 12:45AM early Friday after police discovered 600 grams of "Sizzurp" in his car following a routine traffic stop. It's a felony charge and will ensure that Roger Goodell does not lift Jolly's suspension anytime soon.

Coach Mike McCarthy said at the NFL owners meetings that suspended DE Johnny Jolly is "definitely" in the Packers' plans.

"Definitely," said McCarthy. "We’ll let the process take its course." Jolly, 28, began his bid for reinstatement over the winter. He remains subject to an indefinite suspension after violating the league's substance abuse and personal conduct policies after (allegedly) orchestrating a drug ring in Houston. The Packers should consider anything Jolly adds a big bonus.

Suspended DL Johnny Jolly is in the process of filing for reinstatement to the NFL.

Jolly's suspension was yet another hurdle the Packers overcame on their way to the Lombardi Trophy. He was suspended indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Jolly remains under contract for $2.521 million in 2011, and the Packers will welcome him back as long as he's "clean."

Suspended DL Johnny Jolly agreed to a plea deal Tuesday that will give him a clean record if he stays out of a trouble for a year.

Jolly agreed to plead guilty to one undisclosed charge in exchange for a one-year pretrial diversion. In other words, his sentence is delayed for one year pending the outcome of his diversion program. He's been suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
