Colts signed FS Antoine Bethea to a four-year, $27 million contract.
Bethea will get $18 million over the first two years of the deal. He becomes one of the disgruntled restricted free agents that actually gets the long-term deal he wanted. A two-time Pro Bowler, Bethea is one of the unsung rocks in Indy's defense. Even more will be expected out of him as he enters his prime with this deal. Fri, Jun 11, 2010 01:47:00 PM

Colts FS Antoine Bethea and LE Robert Mathis were missing as the team opened mandatory minicamps on Friday.

As previously mentioned, Reggie Wayne is also staying away. All three want new deals. Coach Jim Caldwell doesn't sound overly concerned yet. "There are times that happen during the course of the season where certain guys may not be able to go," he said. "So what we do it adjust and keep moving."

The Indianapolis Star wouldn't be surprised if restricted free agent FS Antoine Bethea gets a long-term deal.

Bethea has yet to sign his one-year tender, but we doubt he'll be able to force the Colts into giving him a multi-year extension. As a RFA, the Colts can make him play this year for $2.521 million before discussing a new contract.

In addition to the three NFC East teams mentioned previously, the Jets and Dolphins are reportedly showing interest in FS Antoine Bethea.

So Bethea is very popular in the east. It's starting to sound like these rumors are being spread directly by Bethea's player reps. Teams are unlikely to surrender a first-round pick for the tendered restricted free agent.

Scout.com reports that the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys are showing interest in restricted free agent FS Antoine Bethea.

The Colts gave Bethea a first-round tender, making the cost prohibitive for Washington in particular if it planned to sign him to an offer sheet. The sides could potentially work out a deal for less than the round-one compensation level, but Indianapolis certainly won't give up Bethea on the cheap.

The Colts have assigned a first-round tender to restricted free agent FS Antoine Bethea.

Bethea is a ball magnet with cover skills, so he was bound to get a pricey tender. Should he sign off on it, Bethea would collect $2.52 million in 2010.

Antoine Bethea, dealing with a back injury, may not make the trip to Miami for the Pro Bowl Sunday.

Bethea was limited in practice Thursday, but he's fully expected to be fine for the Super Bowl. RE Dwight Freeney (ankle) may also be held out of the Pro Bowl activities.

Colts FS Antoine Bethea (broken hand) returned to practice Wednesday.

Bethea is expected to return to game action with a wrapped hand well before the season opener. Bethea will try to keep the secondary together early in the season with Bob Sanders out and Kelvin Hayden possibly sidelined as well.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell revealed Wednesday that FS Antoine Bethea will be sidelined indefinitely with a broken right hand.

Indianapolis could get away with SS Bob Sanders (knee) missing time because Melvin Bullitt is a strong replacement. But the loss of Bethea, a 2007 Pro Bowler and the Colts' top tackling defensive back in 2008, is going to hurt. He'll be fitted with a cast and return when he's able to play through it. Obviously, Bethea will have a hard time making plays with one hand.

The Colts are not expected to make wholesale defensive changes despite firing coordinator Ron Meeks.

It sounds like Indianapolis will target another Tampa 2 coach, although the Colts' ends, safeties, and corners are talented enough to function in any scheme. One possible coordinator target is Vikings DLs coach Karl Dunbar.

The Colts may be without both starting safeties this Sunday.

Strong safety Bob Sanders is out with swelling in his right knee, and free safety Antoine Bethea has missed practice all week with an ankle injury. This qualifies as great news for a Browns offense that can use all the help it can get.

Colts coach Tony Dungy believes FS Antoine Bethea can be "that ball-skills safety that can have eight or nine picks in a year."

Bethea has developed quickly after being a sixth-rounder from Howard in '06. He had four picks last year and made the Pro Bowl. Bob Sanders is the more desirable IDP safety, but Bethea gets a bump in big play-heavy formats.

The Colts expect to be without defensive starters Antoine Bethea (knee), Robert Mathis (knee), and Raheem Brock (ribs) in Week 15.

All these losses are significant, but the Colts could probably beat the Raiders with their second-team defense. Brock will be replaced by Quinn Pitcock at defensive tackle, while rookie Keyunta Dawson could start at end for Mathis. Matt Giordano figures to get the nod at free safety in place of Bethea.
