The St. Louis Post-Dispatch believes the Rams are still in play for free agent LB Daryl Smith.
Thanks to Chris Long's contract restructure, the Rams finally have a little bit of room under the cap. They could move on Smith or free agent S Quintin Mikell soon after the draft. Neither veteran has attracted any other known interest. Apr 23 - 8:15 AM

Free agent LB Daryl Smith left his visit to St. Louis without a deal.

The Post-Dispatch says Smith may take "several" more visits before deciding on a team. It could be a leverage play as the Rams have a major need at strongside linebacker, where beat writer Jim Thomas says the ex-Jaguar would be an "instant starter." Smith missed 14 games due to a groin injury last year, but has been a productive 4-3 outside 'backer throughout his nine-year career.

Free agent LB Daryl Smith is visiting the Rams on Monday.

It's his first visit of free agency. The Florida Times Union reported Sunday that Smith is not expected back in Jacksonville, and his name "isn't even brought up" in internal discussions. A groin injury limited Smith, 31, to just two games last season. The Rams have a need at outside linebacker, but Smith wouldn't be guaranteed a starting job. He'd likely earn one with a healthy camp, however.

Free agent SLB Daryl Smith is not expected back with the Jaguars.

The Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran says Smith's name "isn't even brought up in conversations" he has with Jaguars people anymore. Smith, 31, is coming off a season in which he battled a serious groin injury and played just two games. However, in the eight seasons prior, Smith missed a total of four games. He has drawn zero interest so far.

Jaguars GM David Caldwell said he "wouldn't close the door at all" on re-signing free agent SLB Daryl Smith.

In one of free agency's bigger surprises, Smith has generated zero buzz over the last week. Either his agent is playing things very close to the vest, or teams are scared off by a 31-year-old player coming off a serious groin injury. The Jags sound ready to pounce if Smith's price tag drops far enough. "If he's interested, we would definitely talk to his agent and see where it goes," Caldwell said.

The Florida Times Union suggests the Giants as a potential landing spot for free agent SLB Daryl Smith.

Smith has no strong coaching staff ties to the Giants, but New York is needy at linebacker and could consider Smith as a 31-year-old stopgap solution, assuming the price is right. We also like Chicago as a fit. New Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker has coached Smith for the past four seasons.
Mar 2 - 8:44 AM

The Florida Times Union says it "appears likely" that the Jaguars won't re-sign SLB Daryl Smith.

Smith's offseason has been quiet, but he's one of the better 4-3 outside 'backers in the league when healthy. He played in just two games last season due to a groin injury, but he missed just four games in eight seasons before 2012. Chicago could be a landing spot with ex-Jags DC Mel Tucker.

Jaguars SLB Daryl Smith played 63-of-73 defensive snaps in his 2012 regular season debut in Week 16 against the Patriots.

Smith battled a groin injury at the season's onset before he was placed on short-term injured reserve prior to Week 8. Head coach Mike Mularkey admitted that he was a "little rusty" in his return on Sunday, but that was to be expected. Smith, 30, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and could be a steal after grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 outside linebacker in 2011.

Jaguars activated SLB Daryl Smith (groin) from injured reserve designated for return.

Smith hasn't played a snap yet this season and wasn't placed on the short-term injured list until Week 8. He'll look to add some more quality tape to his resume heading into the 2013 offseason in which Smith will hit unrestricted free agency.

Jaguars assigned SLB Daryl Smith (groin) the "designated for return" tag on injured reserve.

Smith, who went down in the early days of camp, will be eligible to return in Week 15. A full-time starter since 2004, Smith had previously never missed more than two games in a season. Russell Allen will continue to start in his absence. In the midst of his age-30 campaign, Smith will be a free agent at season's end.

Jaguars SLB Daryl Smith (groin) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Packers.

Smith hasn't appeared in a game all season after sustaining this cumbersome groin injury in training camp. That's allowed WLB Russell Allen to be an every-down linebacker and record 51 tackles in six games.

Jaguars SLB Daryl Smith (groin) has been ruled out for Week 7 against the Raiders.

Smith has now missed six consecutive games. Coach Mike Mularkey said there was no setback, but that Smith was simply not ready to play. WLB Russell Allen has racked up 47 total tackles filling in for Smith in the nickel subpackages. Allen will continue to be a viable fantasy option this week for owners in IDP leagues.

Coming off a Week 6 bye, Jaguars SLB Daryl Smith (groin) returned to the practice field on Monday.

Smith participated in position drills as the Jaguars held a non-padded practice. The Jags feel they'll get a better read on Smith's chances of playing in Week 7 against the Raiders based on how he feels after the session. Smith is a core run defender for Jacksonville, which has struggled mightily without him.

Jaguars SLB Daryl Smith (groin) has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Bears.

That's now five consecutive weeks for Smith. With the Jaguars' bye looming in Week 6, the Jaguars aren't rushing him back. WLB Russell Allen has been solid in the nickel packages in Smith's absence.

Jaguars declared SLB Daryl Smith, OLs Herb Taylor and Daniel Baldridge, DLs Jeris Pendleton and George Selvie, LB Brandon Marshall, and CB Kevin Rutland inactive for Week 4 against the Bengals.

Smith has yet to play this season with a groin injury. Rutland is recovering from a concussion, and George Selvie has a knee injury. Everybody else is healthy. Eben Britton and Cameron Bradfield are back starting on the offensive line.
