Saints re-signed RT Zach Strief to a five-year, $20.5 million contract.
Strief, who gets $8.5 million guaranteed, was our No. 2 tackle still available behind only Donald Penn. The 30-year-old veteran is coming off his best NFL season, as he started 15 games for the Saints while allowing just four sacks and five quarterback hits. The re-signing is excellent news for Drew Brees, as the 6'7/320 Strief has emerged as an elite pass blocker. He'll bookend with exciting left tackle prospect Terron Armstead. Mar 17 - 9:48 AM

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have expressed interest in setting up a visit with free agent RT Zach Strief.

Strief has been unavailable this week due to a commitment at a function in Cincinnati. The 30-year-old reportedly would be interested in talking with Miami but prefers to re-sign with New Orleans. The Saints may not be able to squeeze Strief under the cap. He's a finesse blocker who excels in pass protection.

The Jets have reportedly inquired about free agent RT Zach Strief.

It's a fallback option in case the Jets can't retain free agent Austin Howard. Strief has handled himself fairly well as the Saints starting right tackle for the last three years, but will turn 31 years old in September. Howard is both younger and better.

The Saints had preliminary contract talks with free agent RT Zach Strief at the Combine.

"There is a mutual interest to get something done on both sides, and we had a good meeting and discussions," were the words of Strief's agent. ESPN Saints blogger Mike Triplett opined earlier this month that there was a "strong chance" Strief walked, but believes last weekend's talks were a "good sign." An eight-year pro who's only been a starter since 2011, Strief is going on 31, but was an asset on Drew Brees' right side last season.

ESPN Saints blogger Mike Triplett believes there's a "strong chance" impending free agent RT Zach Strief gets a more lucrative offer elsewhere.

The Saints are in a salary-cap bind of sorts this offseason and won't be able to bring everyone back. Strief made 15 starts this past season and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 overall right tackle, excelling in pass protection. Bryce Harris and Marcel Jones are possible in-house replacements for the Saints.
