"I'm going to be lost without this game," said Young, who's undergone six left knee surgeries in the last two years. He admitted he'll need another operation that will involve breaking his leg to fix it. Young turns 32 in July. Tue, Apr 28, 2009 10:28:00 PM

Saints released DT Brian Young.

Young just couldn't stay healthy, and he recently failed a team physical. He received a three-year, $12-million extension last year, but he's started just 11 games in the past two years. Sedrick Ellis and Kendrick Clancy will enter the season as starters at defensive tackle. The Saints will clear a much-needed $3.2 million in cap space with the move.

Saints DT Brian Young underwent another surgery on his left knee three weeks ago.

He's missed 15 games over the past seasons. Young won't participate in the full-squad minicamp in June, and he's now joined defensive tackle Hollis Thomas and cornerback Jason David as candidates to get the axe this offseason.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune suggests that Paul Spicer's addition could cost DTs Brian Young or Hollis Thomas a roster spot.

This also indicates that Spicer could be used at defensive tackle. Thomas is New Orleans' only true two-gap clogger, so he'd seem more safe. Injuries have cost Young 15 games over the last two years and he turns 32 in July.

Saints placed DT Brian Young (knee, foot) on injured reserve, ending his season.

It's believed that Young's left knee directly led to his placement on IR, but his right foot was also giving him problems. After eight yards in the league, the 31-year-old pocket pusher's body may be letting him down.

Saints DT Brian Young is in danger of missing the rest of 2008 because of knee problems.

The injury has become recurring for Young, an oft-used backup behind DTs Sedrick Ellis and Kendrick Clancy. The Saints have weak depth after them.

Saints DT Brian Young tore his plantar fascia in practice last week.

New Orleans can't afford to lose another interior tackle after Hollis Thomas tore his pectorals. It does sound like Young plans to play through it, but he seems unlikely to be as effective a pass rusher as usual.

Saints re-signed DT Brian Young to a three-year, $12 million contract, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan.

Young, 30, is coming off a pneumonia-shortened year, but is still an effective penetrator next to massive Hollis Thomas when healthy. In his last 25 games, he has nine sacks and 64 stops (52 solo). He'll likely start in 2008.

Saints placed DT Brian Young on injured reserve with a rare form of pneumonia, ending his season.

A big loss. Already, a strong pass rusher, Young was enjoying a resurgent season as a run stuffer, although the Saints had played five games without him this year. Antwan Lake should start the next two games, which is good news for Brian Westbrook and the Eagles' attack this week.

Saints coach Sean Payton said a rare form of pneumonia put DT Brian Young in the hospital over the weekend and that he is likely out for Week 16.

Payton did not indicate when Young would return or if he would be placed on the injured reserve list. Veteran Renaldo Wynn replaced him against the Cardinals, but the Saints could use several players to fill the void of the active Young.

The Saints are expected to place DT Brian Young on season ending injured reserve this week.

Young reportedly needed to have fluid drained from between his lung and ribcage during the week. The impending free agent is New Orleans' most active interior defensive lineman. His backup is former Falcon Antwan Lake.

Saints DT Brian Young practiced on Wednesday.

Young is expected to play in Week 13. He had his knee scoped a month ago, and his return would big a big boost to the interior of the New Orleans line.

Saints DT Brian Young (knee) is expected to return to practice this week, according to coach Sean Payton.

Young has missed the past month following arthroscopic knee surgery. If he can play in Week 13, his presence in the middle of the Saints line will be a boost against the rugged running style of Bucs RB Earnest Graham.

Saints DT Brian Young underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee Wednesday and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Young is New Orleans' most active interior down lineman. Antwan Lake is a solid backup, but isn't likely to be as effective in pass rushing situations.
