The Jets will host free agent TE Brandon Manumaleuna for a visit on Tuesday.
The blocking specialist will be among the Jets' Tuesday tryouts. Released by the Bears in late July after failing a physical, Manumaleuna generated scant interest in free agency. He could be a sixth offensive lineman in New York, but no signing is imminent. Mon, Oct 3, 2011 05:03:00 PM

Brandon Manumaleuna failed his physical before being released by the Bears.

Just as we suspected. Manumaleuna was coming off arthroscopic surgery on his knee that apparently was more severe than reported. The blocking tight end will now have to prove his health before getting a look elsewhere.

Bears released TE Brandon Manumaleuna.

It's a good thing the Julius Peppers signing worked out because Mike Martz's hand-picked 2010 free agent signings were complete and utter disasters. Manumaleuna made little impact last season, and he's coming off arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. We wouldn't be the least bit surprised to hear he failed his physical.

Bears TE Brandon Manumaleuna will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, "soon."

It's considered a "minor cleanout," but the blocking specialist was extremely slow to recover from a left knee scope last year. Manumaleuna finished his first season as a Bear with five catches for 43 yards and one touchdown.

The Bears reportedly fined TE Brandon Manumaleuna $22,000 for missing a team meeting last Saturday evening.

Manumaleuna apparently didn't get the memo that the regular season meeting schedule differed from the preseason schedule because the game times are in the early afternoon.

Bears TE Brandon Manumaleuna (knee) and S Danieal Manning (hamstring) are expected to make their preseason debuts Saturday night.

Manumaleuna had struggled with aftereffects from an offseason surgery, but he appears to have finally turned the corner. It will be interesting to see if his return affects the production of Greg Olsen, who led the Bears in training camp targets. Manning is expected to start opposite SS Chris Harris with Major Wright (finger) out.

Bears TE Brandon Manumaleuna has struggled with the aftereffects from offseason knee surgery in training camp.

The NFL's highest paid blocking tight end was on the practice field Monday, but has been in and out of the lineup ever since having his knee scoped in April. Manumaleuna is behind Greg Olsen on Chicago's latest depth chart.

Bears TE Brandon Manumaleuna (knee scope) continues to be sidelined for OTAs this week.

Though Manumaleuna will miss the entire offseason program, he's familiar with Mike Martz's offense after playing for him in St. Louis. The blocking specialist will return for training camp.

Updating a previous item, Bears TE Brandon Manumaleuna's knee scope took place five weeks ago.

It sounds like he's only sitting out minicamp this week as a precaution. He's considered "close" to 100 percent, and certainly should be by the start of training camp. Manumaleuna needed the same knee drained last season.

Brandon Manumaleuna will miss minicamp after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.

It's unclear if the Bears knew about this before Mike Martz handpicked Manumaleuna as his blocking tight end. Either way, Manumaleuna's status for training camp should not be affected. He remains the prototypical tight end for a Martz offense, unlike Greg Olsen.

Bears agreed to terms with TE Brandon Manumaleuna on a five-year, $15 million contract, including $6.1 million guaranteed.

New offensive coordinator Mike Martz gets his man, and it spells bad news for incumbent blocker Desmond Clark. Manumaleuna, 6'2/295, is one of the best blocking tight ends in the league, which is an integral characteristic for a tight end in Mike Martz's offense. While the Chicago Tribune speculates that Greg Olsen will maintain a large role, it's not going to happen in the receiving game. Look for Manumaleuna to be the Bears' new starter.

Free agent TE Brandon Manumaleuna is scheduled to visit the Bears' Halas Hall facility on Friday.

The Bears are going to have a full house, with Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor also in town. Baltimore was thought to be in the Manumaleuna bidding earlier on Thursday, but the Bears appear poised to offer him more money. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Manumaleuna and Chicago are talking "big money," and that the deal may be "the surprise of free agency."

The Ravens have joined the Bears in the hunt for free agent blocking tight end Brandon Manumaleuna.

Manumaleuna, 30, is likely looking to max out on potentially his final contract as a pro, so he figures to sign with the highest bidder. He knows both teams' schemes well, but Chicago remains the favorite to sign him.

According to league sources, the Bears have strong interest in free agent TE Brandon Manumaleuna.

Manumaleuna played for OC Mike Martz when they were both with the Rams, and he is considered to be the best blocking tight end on the market. It raises questions about Greg Olsen's future in the offense, as Martz prefers a blocking-first tight end. Don't expect much offense from Olsen in 2010.

Chargers TE Brandon Manumaleuna caught two passes for 48 yards in Week 13.

Manumaleuna was wide open over the middle of the field and managed to turn it into a 40-yard gain. Despite the big day, he isn't a fantasy option going forward.
