Redskins placed WR Mike Furrey (concussion) on injured reserve, ending his season.
His career is likely over due to persistent concussions. Furrey, 33, was a great story as a former XFL player with the Las Vegas Outlaws who started for nearly a full season in St. Louis at free safety in 2005. In 2006 under Mike Martz in Detroit, Furrey led the NFC with 98 receptions as a slot receiver. It was Furrey's best season, finishing as the No. 19 overall fantasy wideout. Redskins WR Mike Furrey said he is "done for the year, at least" as he walked out of the practice facility Thursday.

Furrey has a history of concussions and suffered another one a couple weeks ago. It's likely that doctors have told him he can't afford another blow to the head. The slot receiver said that he'll make a determination about his NFL future in January or February.

Redskins WR Mike Furrey has been diagnosed with a concussion.

Furrey has been out the last couple of days, but he just thought he was sick. The sure-handed slot receiver will need to get back quickly as the Redskins are holding an all-out war for receiver roster spots. He has had a concussion previously.

Redskins signed WR Mike Furrey, formerly of the Browns.

Furrey still has good hands and short-area quickness, but isn't a threat after the catch and is now 33 years old. He'll compete with Bobby Wade for slot receiver duties. Washington's slot receiver could be worth monitoring in fantasy leagues, as the team has upgraded at quarterback and is possibly headed for a pass-first attack due to its weakness at running back.

The Bears have reportedly been touching base with free agent WR Mike Furrey.

No surprise here. You can often find Furrey playing for whatever offense Mike Martz is running, the two having been together in St. Louis and Detroit. Earl Bennett is a superior option as a slot receiver, so Furrey wouldn't add much to the Bears if signed.

The Browns have made no effort to re-sign WR Mike Furrey, according to beat writer Tony Grossi.

The Browns need a reliable possession receiver, but Furrey provides little upside. He had 23 catches last season before moving over to safety toward the end of the year. Furrey hasn't been linked to any teams in free agency. Which probably means he'll end up catching 100 passes for Mike Martz in Chicago.

Browns WR Mike Furrey made his first start of the season at safety Sunday.

Mike Adams moved to cornerback, replacing Brandon McDonald. Charlie Frye passed for a Raiders' season-high 333 yards, so the situation is far from ideal.

Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan says he plays to use Mike Furrey more on defense going forward.

Furrey has just one catch for five yards on offense in the last three games. He may steal some playing time from Brodney Pool, the Browns' free safety.

Browns slot receiver Mike Furrey took snaps at safety during Sunday's loss, and broke up a pass during overtime against the Bengals.

He also chipped in four catches for 37 yards on offense. Furrey has played safety before during his NFL and Arena League careers. He had four interceptions for the Rams in 2005, then caught 98 balls for Detroit in '06.

Mike Furrey caught four passes for 40 yards to lead the Browns in Week 3 against the Ravens.

The Browns started in a four-wide set, with "trips" to the right (Josh Cribbs, Mohamed Massaquoi, and Furrey). Furrey, usually the slot/third receiver, is up to nine catches for 70 yards on the year. His lack of big-play ability and the Browns' value-soaking receiver rotation crush all these players' fantasy upsides. Cribbs had one grab for two yards; Massaquoi one for 13.

The Browns' first training camp depth chart listed Mike Furrey as the No. 2 receiver, opposite Braylon Edwards.

Furrey likely got the designation because he's the veteran, while Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie are rookies. Furrey seems poised to be Cleveland's No. 1 slot receiver, but the others are better bets to start outside.

Mike Furrey is considered the leading contender for Browns' slot receiver duties this season.

Holdover Syndric Steptoe was beyond awful last season, so Furrey will battle veteran David Patten for the slot role. Neither player will be a fantasy option as the Browns' third receiver.

Browns signed WR Mike Furrey, formerly of the Lions.

Furrey caught 159 passes and seven touchdowns in Mike Martz's offense from 2006-2007, but dropped to 18 receptions last year before his season ended with a concussion. He turns 32 later this month. Furrey will likely compete with David Patten and Syndric Steptoe to be a slot receiver in camp.

Mike Furrey visited the Patriots before free agency started.

Furrey was released by the Lions on February 9, so he was free to meet with teams after that point. This is likely New England doing some legwork ahead of time, should they choose Furrey is a necessary addition later. Nothing looks imminent.

The Chicago Tribune suggests that free agent Mike Furrey could be an option to bolster the Bears' receiver corps.

As if they need more mediocrity at wideout. Still, Furrey played for the Rams when Lovie Smith ran their defense and could at least help on special teams.
