Rams acquired WR Isaac Bruce from the 49ers in advance of Bruce announcing his retirement.
He'll retire on Wednesday. A borderline Hall of Famer, Bruce has some serious credentials. The 16-year veteran holds every major Rams receiving record, ranks fifth in league history in receptions (1,024), and is second in all-time receiving yards (15,208). He is ninth all-time in receiving touchdowns (91). Our guess is that Bruce will get into Canton eventually, but not on the first ballot. While his statistics can't be disputed, Bruce may be viewed by some voters as something of a product of the Rams' system. He never made an All-Pro team, and it's hard to say he was every truly dominant. Mon, Jun 7, 2010 02:17:00 PM

Isaac Bruce said Tuesday that he expects to put out a statement "in the next few days" regarding his potential retirement from football.

Bruce was inactive for much of the second half of the season, finishing with just two receptions after Week 8. The 37-year-old is fully expected to retire this offseason. Second all time in receiving yards, he will be an interesting case for the Hall of Fame in five years.

Isaac Bruce played just one snap in his return to St. Louis in Week 17.

Bruce was a team captain and played the first offensive play (a run) and then went to the locker room and was in street clothes from there on. He got a warm reception in the fourth quarter from the few people that were left in attendance. Bruce, 37, will likely hang up the cleats this off-season.

Isaac Bruce (ankle) missed practice again Thursday.

The idea of Bruce getting major playing time in his return to St. Louis is nice, but it's not going to happen. Bruce may be a team captain for the opening coin toss, but that may be the longest he's on the field Sunday.

49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye insists that Isaac Bruce (ankle) is not prepared to play in a reunion game at St. Louis Sunday.

Raye says he doesn't want to "disrespect" Bruce with a token appearance. Bruce and the other Niners receivers may end up successfully lobbying for that token appearance, but we wouldn't count on significant action this week.

49ers coach Mike Singletary reconsidered the idea of playing Isaac Bruce in Sunday's season finale after the other 49ers receivers lobbied for Bruce to suit up.

The 49ers are playing Bruce's former team, the Rams, on Sunday. Josh Morgan, who replaced Bruce in the starting lineup earlier this season, went to Singletary and said he wanted the veteran to start over him this week. Look for Bruce to be announced as a starter, get a huge ovation from the St. Louis fans, and play a few snaps in the NFL for the final time.

Isaac Bruce stated in a conference call with St. Louis media Wednesday that there's a "75 percent" change he'll retire after this year.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "those who know Bruce say it's closer to 100 percent." The 49ers do plan to let Bruce play in their season finale Sunday against the Rams, with whom Bruce spent nearly his entire career. It will be interesting to see if Bruce makes the Hall of Fame. While he does rank second all-time in receiving yards and fifth all-time in receptions, Bruce made only four Pro Bowls and was never named All Pro.

Isaac Bruce will be inactive for the final two games of the season.

There was some thought that Bruce would play against his former team, the Rams, in Week 17, but it's not going to happen. Bruce, 37, will fade off into the sunset quietly. It's quite possible he's played his last down in the NFL.

49ers declared WR Isaac Bruce, DB Keith Smith, DB Nate Clements, OLB Diyral Briggs, C Cody Wallace, OT Chris Patrick, third QB Nate Davis and DE Baraka Atkins inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

No surprises here as LT Joe Staley returns to his left tackle spot. The weather for this one is clear and the field is remarkably clean. The only concern is the swirling wind.

Isaac Bruce (ankle) is listed as "doubtful" for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

Bruce is more like a player/coach at this point. Even if he was healthy, it's unlikely he'd be active. Jason Hill and Brandon Jones will continue to share No. 3 WR duties.

Beat writer Matt Maiocco would "not be surprised" if the next and last time Isaac Bruce (ankle) plays is Week 17 at St. Louis.

It would be a fitting sendoff for one of the greatest players in Rams franchise history. Bruce is still not practicing, and the Niners won't rush him. The young receivers are playing well, and Bruce isn't an option on special teams.

49ers declared WR Isaac Bruce, QB Nate Davis, CB Nate Clements, OT Joe Staley, DL Kentwan Balmer, C Cody Wallace, DB Marcus Hudson, and LB Diyral Briggs inactive for Week 13.

Jason Hill will play as the third receiver and Brandon Jones will be active once again.

Isaac Bruce will not be active in Week 12.

Bruce has lost his starting job to Josh Morgan and the No. 3 job to Jason Hill. He was active last week and caught one pass, but he's more like a coach now. The Niners need his roster spot for someone who plays special teams.

Isaac Bruce is expected to be active in Week 11, but it's unclear if he'll get any snaps.

Josh Morgan will make his 10th start of 2009, but the 49ers won't say who will be the No. 3 receiver. It will likely be Jason Hill, who has operated out of the slot for two straight games. Bruce may also play behind Brandon Jones and Arnaz Battle and is almost certainly in his last season with the Niners.
Wed, Nov 18, 2009 08:33:00 AM

Coach Mike Singletary confirmed that Isaac Bruce has a diminishing role in the 49ers offense and won't start the rest of the season.

Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan are the starters, and Jason Hill will likely continue to hold down No. 3 receiver duties. If you haven't already, it's time to drop the 37-year-old Bruce in all leagues.
