New Bills QB Kevin Kolb said the team's up-tempo offense helps young players.
Kolb believes the Bills may not run no-huddle as their base, but they’re determined to run plays at a fast clip. "A big problem, especially for young players at this level, is they slow down because they’re thinking too much," said Kolb. "If you get them into a no-huddle, you get them into a quick style of offense, then they’re just reading and reacting." The Bills still need to acquire good young players. Apr 20 - 9:32 AM

New Bills QB Kevin Kolb insists he doesn't take too many sacks.

Playing behind a porous offensive line in Arizona, Kolb was sacked a whopping 57 times in 15 games. "(The) label only came from really my stint in Arizona," Kolb claimed Monday. "When I was in Philly for however many games I started — I don't even know — I can remember going multiple games without maybe getting hit four or five times." Kolb was sacked 16 times in 211 dropbacks his final season with the Eagles, which is a terrible percentage. Bad line play hasn't helped his cause, but Kolb has to do a better job of getting rid of the ball in a timely fashion. If not, it will be back to the bench, or worse, injured reserve.

A source tells ProFootballTalk.com that Kevin Kolb's two-year contract with the Bills only guarantees him $1M and has a base worth of $6.1M.

Kolb's deal was originally reported as a two-year, $13M contract. But per PFT, $6.9M of that "is tied up in escalators and incentives and other factors that likely require him to actually play — and play well — to get the money." Kolb is the favorite to win the starting job ahead of Tarvaris Jackson and a draft pick (Ryan Nassib?), but his contract is backup caliber. The Bills can get off nearly scot-free if they end up cutting him.
Apr 9 - 12:01 PM

GM Buddy Nix stopped short of calling Kevin Kolb the Bills' starter Monday, saying he's a "a strong candidate in the competition."

The Bills have little reason to anoint Kolb the starter in April, but he's a prohibitive favorite over Tarvaris Jackson. There's a possibility Kolb could get Russell Wilson-ed by a rookie QB — perhaps Syracuse's Ryan Nassib — but it's his job to lose. The smoke connecting Nassib to Buffalo should continue to grow thicker between now and the draft.
Apr 8 - 10:34 AM

Kevin Kolb is excited about the "unique style of offense" the Bills plan to run in 2013.

"I think a lot of times in this league you have people who are set in their ways and they follow other people’s leads all the time," Kolb said in a possible shot at former coach Ken Whisenhunt. "I’m very optimistic about what we’re gonna do." Kolb will be piloting new coach Doug Marrone's "K-Gun" hurry-up offense. Even if the Bills use an early-round pick on a QB, Kolb will enter camp the favorite to start.
Apr 5 - 12:04 PM

Bills signed QB Kevin Kolb to a two-year, $13 million contract.

The deal makes Kolb the favorite to enter training camp as the Bills' starter. Per The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, Buffalo put a full-court press on Kolb this week and believe he's a strong fit for rookie coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's "K-Gun" offense. It's still not much of an upgrade over Ryan Fitzpatrick, and the signing won't keep the Bills from using an early-round pick on a quarterback. Kolb, still only 28, will provide a viable short-term answer with starting experience.
Mar 30 - 9:15 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bills are "finalizing a deal" with free agent Kevin Kolb.

Kolb will give the Bills a superior competitor with Tarvaris Jackson, but he won't keep them from using an early-round pick on a quarterback. Though Kolb clearly isn't a long-term answer, he's an obvious upgrade on "T-Jack." Playing behind one of football's worst offensive lines in Arizona, Kolb started just 14 games the last two seasons due to injury. He's doubtful to get much guaranteed money in the deal. The Jets showed early interest in Kolb, while the Raiders are deep in trade talks for Matt Flynn.
Mar 30 - 7:08 PM

Sirius XM Radio's Adam Caplan reports the Raiders have "discussed the possibility" of signing free agent Kevin Kolb.

Tap the breaks on Matt Flynn-to-Oakland. Despite a Friday report that a Flynn trade was "imminent", multiple indications since have pointed to Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie weighing his options. In our estimation, signing Kolb without coughing up picks would be a far smarter pursuit then dealing the Seahawks draft selections the Raiders need to rebuild a putrid roster. Kolb is only ten months older than Flynn, and neither is a franchise-caliber quarterback.
Mar 29 - 4:27 PM

A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that the Bills are interested in free agent Kevin Kolb.

Per PFT, Buffalo is "at least interested in kicking the tires." Kolb's market has been dead silent for more than a week. He was released by Arizona on March 15. Buffalo's current first-string quarterback is Tarvaris Jackson, backed up only by 2012 UDFA Aaron Corp. They obviously need an upgrade. The Bills are also likely to use an early-round draft pick on a signal caller.
Mar 29 - 1:50 PM

Jets coach Rex Ryan left the door open on pursuing free agent Kevin Kolb.

"If we think that will help the competition, then I’m sure it’ll be something we’ll look into," Ryan said. "Is that a possibility? I’m not sure." It's not much, but anything other than a flat denial is noteworthy this time of year. Despite his injury history and spotty production, Kolb would instantly become the Jets' most viable QB.
Mar 19 - 2:14 PM

BuffaloBills.com does not expect the team to pursue free agent Kevin Kolb.

Beat writer Chris Brown says the Bills have been studying the draft prospects at quarterback, but he wouldn't rule out at least the team kicking the tires on a veteran not named Kolb. The market is bare with underwhelming options like Matt Leinart, Jason Campbell, and Brady Quinn. Buffalo would be better off sticking with Tarvaris Jackson than any of those three.
Mar 16 - 3:58 PM

Cardinals released QB Kevin Kolb.

The move saves $7.5 million in cap space. Per The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, the sides "discussed various options for him to return," but could not come to an agreement. Interestingly, Caplan reports Arizona "left the door open" for Kolb to return at a cheaper rate. Kolb would be returning to a competition with Brian Hoyer, Drew Stanton, and probably a draft pick while earning a bargain-basement salary. We fully expect him to move on. The Jets, Bills and Browns are all possible landing spots. A colossal bust who cost Arizona a second-round pick, then-top CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and a six-year, $65 million contract just after the lockout, Kolb finished his Cardinals stint with a 6-8 record, 17:16 touchdown-to-turnover ratio, and sub-60 percent completion rate. He's still only 28 years old.
Mar 15 - 11:32 AM

Beat writer Manish Mehta expects the Jets to pursue Kevin Kolb once the Cardinals release him.

Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg coached Kolb when his stock rose in Philadelphia. Mehta says that "if the price is right," Kolb will land with the Jets and be the Week 1 starter. Although only Mark Sanchez and David Garrard sit atop the depth chart now, that's a major leap. During two seasons in Arizona, Kolb has gone 6-8 as a starter and lost a 2012 training camp battle to John Skelton.
Mar 14 - 10:51 AM

A source tells NFL.com that the Cardinals will release QB Kevin Kolb shortly.

Kolb is due a $2 million roster bonus on Saturday and carries a cap number of $13.5 million. If the Cardinals don't want to pay that, they'll have to release him by 4 p.m. ET on Friday. After signing Drew Stanton Wednesday, there's plenty of reason to think the Cards are moving on. The Ken Whisenhunt regime that traded for Kolb is no longer in Arizona.
Mar 14 - 10:13 AM

The Cardinals will discuss a restructured contract with Kevin Kolb "later this week."

Kolb's $2 million roster bonus is due on Saturday. Kolb would surely prefer to hit the open market as soon as possible if he's going to be cut loose, but he won't have to wait long either way. It shouldn't make much of a difference in a shallow "QB market." The Cards' new braintrust has made scant public mention of Kolb since taking over, which probably doesn't bode well for his Arizona future.
