Browns LT Joe Thomas said Wednesday that he is experiencing short-term memory loss, but he is "willing to accept" the risks of continuing his career.
Thomas has famously never missed an NFL snap and has no documented concussions in his history. "Short-term memory loss -- hard times remembering things that have happened recently," said Thomas, 32. "Like, you walk to the grocery store and you're like, 'Huh, I can't remember what I needed to get.'" Thomas said his hope is medicine will "continue to improve" to a point where he can be treated should he develop any sort of dementia related to football. Apr 26 - 8:54 PM

Browns LT Joe Thomas has been named to his 10th-straight Pro Bowl.

This is actually an amazing feat, as Thomas is the fifth player ever to be named to 10 consecutive All-Star games, joining Hall of Famers Merlin Olsen, Mel Renfro, Barry Sanders, and Lawrence Taylor. The No. 3 overall pick in 2007, Thomas has made the Pro Bowl every season he's been in the league and is well on his way to the Hall of Fame. It's a shame he's been wasted in Cleveland.

Browns coach Hue Jackson insists the team isn't going to trade LT Joe Thomas.

"We. Are. Not. Going. To. Trade. Joe. Thomas," were how Jackson's words were stylized by the team's Twitter account. It's unequivocal, but we'd guess everything remains negotiable for the tanking Browns. Jackson undoubtedly values Thomas' leadership on a young team, but not even an All-Pro left tackle has been able to prevent every Browns quarterback from getting hurt. Trading Thomas makes sense if the opportunity presents itself.

Appearing on Football Night in America, PFT's Mike Florio reported the Browns are looking for a second-round pick in exchange for LT Joe Thomas.

The Browns came close to dealing Thomas at this time last year, nearly striking a deal with the Broncos before it fell apart. This new Browns regime spent all offseason ridding the roster of veterans and could look to get what they can for Thomas with the team going nowhere this season at 0-7. Thomas turns 32 in December but remains a top-tier left tackle.

Browns LT Joe Thomas says he did not ask to be traded this offseason.

"Since I got here it's been my goal to turn the Browns into a winner," Thomas said, "and I think [coach Hue Jackson] is just the guy to do that." Despite moving on from several veterans over the past couple months, the Browns have shown no desire to end their relationship with Thomas. The six-time All-Pro will turn 32 in December.

Browns LT Joe Thomas was told by team officials they have "no plans" to trade him.

In full rebuild mode, there has been speculation Cleveland would attempt to move the All-Pro for future assets. The Browns have consistently said they plan to keep Thomas, however, and ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi said there was "nothing brewing" on the trade front earlier this month. Cleveland would likely jump at the right offer, but it does not appear they are actively trying to move their best offensive player.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi reports there's "nothing brewing" on a Browns trade involving LT Joe Thomas.

Thomas has been subject of some rumors the past couple weeks after the Browns essentially began gutting their roster at the start of the new league year. Thomas wants to stay in Cleveland, but he also wants to win. Winning isn't going to happen this year, and the immediate future looks bleak. If Thomas is going to be traded, something may come to fruition on draft weekend.

Browns EVP of football operations Sashi Brown said the team is not planning to trade LT Joe Thomas.

There have been rumblings Cleveland's roster teardown could include trading the six-time All-Pro. "Our plan is not to trade Joe Thomas," Brown said. "He'll be our left tackle." Brown left some wiggle room by using the word plan. While it may be true Cleveland is not planning a trade right now, those plans could change if the right offer comes in or Thomas decides to force his way out of yet another roster rebuild. Thomas has played every snap since the Browns made him the No. 3 overall pick in the 2007 draft.

Browns LT Joe Thomas still thinks he could be traded.

"I'd certainly like to be here, but those are decisions that are out of my hands," he said. Thomas has been the subject of trade rumors in recent years, but VP of football operations Sashi Brown has said publicly the Browns plan to retain Thomas. 31-year-old Thomas is owed $9.5 million in salary and bonuses.

Browns LT Joe Thomas said he is "super excited" about new coach Hue Jackson.

"When we were going through the coaching search, he was the No. 1 guy that I was hoping we'd hire," Thomas said. "For Jimmy (Haslam) to be able to land Hue I think is a huge coup." The specter of another coaching change forced Thomas to openly wonder about his future with the organization in January, but he appears completely on board now. Thomas took home his sixth First-Team All-Pro honor last season and has not missed a snap in his nine-year career.

Browns LT Joe Thomas said he wants to remain in Cleveland this season.

The comments come after VP of football operations Sashi Brown made it clear he plans to retain Thomas. 31-year-old Thomas didn't show any signs of decline last year, grading as PFF's No. 2 tackle. Thomas is signed through 2018.

New Browns executive VP of football operations Sashi Brown has made it clear he plans to retain LT Joe Thomas.

"He's going to be a big piece of what we do moving forward," Brown said. We thought "chief strategy officer" Paul DePodesta might push for the Browns to move Thomas while they could still get strong compensation — a la selling high on an aging star in baseball — but Cleveland is sticking with its all-everything blindside protector through its latest rebuild. Thomas just turned 31, and is signed through 2018.

At Wednesday's introductory press conference, new coach Hue Jackson made it clear the Browns want LT Joe Thomas back.

Thomas has been the subject of trade rumors in recent years, while Thomas himself stated after Week 17 that the season might've been his last in Cleveland. Jackson has other plans. "Joe Thomas is one of the best left tackles in this league, bar none ... and has been one of the cornerstones of this organization and this football team," said Jackson. "I can't wait to have the opportunity to talk to him, to give him our plan and hopefully, I believe in my heart, that he's going to get excited about what we're trying to accomplish."

Browns LT Joe Thomas suggested this season may have been his last in Cleveland.

"When there’s turnover in the coaching staff, a lot of good players end up leaving, a lot of good coaches leave," Thomas said. "There’s a lot of uncertainty when there’s turnover in the coaching staff. Certainly I could be one of them not here next year." When asked directly if he wanted to return, Thomas said, "I’ll have to wait and see what happens with everything next week." Thomas has consistently said he wants to be part of the turnaround in Cleveland, but the 31-year-old All-Pro is understandably leery of going through yet another coaching change. Thomas is under contract until 2019, but he could try to force a trade. Thomas was almost moved at the deadline this season.

Browns LT Joe Thomas (knee) returned to a full practice on Friday and is listed as probable for Week 15 against the Seahawks.

Thomas has never missed a game in his career and that streak will continue Sunday against Seattle. He owns PFF's second-highest tackle grade out of 76 qualifiers this year.
