New Browns executive VP of football operations Sashi Brown has made it clear he plans to retain LT Joe Thomas.

"He's going to be a big piece of what we do moving forward," Brown said. We thought "chief strategy officer" Paul DePodesta might push for the Browns to move Thomas while they could still get strong compensation — a la selling high on an aging star in baseball — but Cleveland is sticking with its all-everything blindside protector through its latest rebuild. Thomas just turned 31, and is signed through 2018.

At Wednesday's introductory press conference, new coach Hue Jackson made it clear the Browns want LT Joe Thomas back.

Thomas has been the subject of trade rumors in recent years, while Thomas himself stated after Week 17 that the season might've been his last in Cleveland. Jackson has other plans. "Joe Thomas is one of the best left tackles in this league, bar none ... and has been one of the cornerstones of this organization and this football team," said Jackson. "I can't wait to have the opportunity to talk to him, to give him our plan and hopefully, I believe in my heart, that he's going to get excited about what we're trying to accomplish."

Browns LT Joe Thomas suggested this season may have been his last in Cleveland.

"When there’s turnover in the coaching staff, a lot of good players end up leaving, a lot of good coaches leave," Thomas said. "There’s a lot of uncertainty when there’s turnover in the coaching staff. Certainly I could be one of them not here next year." When asked directly if he wanted to return, Thomas said, "I’ll have to wait and see what happens with everything next week." Thomas has consistently said he wants to be part of the turnaround in Cleveland, but the 31-year-old All-Pro is understandably leery of going through yet another coaching change. Thomas is under contract until 2019, but he could try to force a trade. Thomas was almost moved at the deadline this season.

Browns LT Joe Thomas (knee) returned to a full practice on Friday and is listed as probable for Week 15 against the Seahawks.

Thomas has never missed a game in his career and that streak will continue Sunday against Seattle. He owns PFF's second-highest tackle grade out of 76 qualifiers this year.

Browns coach Mike Pettine expects LT Joe Thomas (knee) to play against Seattle.

Thomas did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, but Pettine still expects him to play. The All-Pro tackle has never missed a snap in his career.

Joe Thomas' agent Peter Schaffer told ProFootballTalk there's "not one truth" to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that Thomas wanted guaranteed money to go to the Broncos.

"The deal just didn’t happen. [The teams] couldn’t agree to compensation," said Schaffer. "The word ‘guarantee’ never came up. It never got to that point." Schaffer also says Thomas had no desire to leave Cleveland, which conflicts with Rapsheet's report that Thomas asked the team to "see what was out there." "Everything Joe said about wanting to be a Brown is 100 percent true," said Schaffer. "It was when he said it and it still is today."

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, LT Joe Thomas asked the Browns to "see what was out there" before last week's trade deadline.

He nearly went to Denver but the deal broke down when Thomas asked the Broncos to guarantee his salary for 2016 and 2017. The eight-time Pro Bowler has spent his entire nine-year career with Cleveland. His contract expires after 2018.

Browns LT Joe Thomas will not be traded to the Broncos.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports a deal was "so close," but that the sides couldn't agree on compensation. It's a loss for the Broncos, who have one of the league's shakiest tackle duos. As for Thomas, he'll enter the offseason questioning his future in Cleveland. One month shy of his 31st birthday, he could seek a trade if the Browns don't pursue one (though Thomas has said he wants to remain in Cleveland). The perennial All-Pro is signed through 2018. Thomas has never missed a game since being the No. 3 overall pick of the 2007 draft.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports the Broncos are "rushing to beat" the trade deadline and acquire Browns LT Joe Thomas.

The reliable Russini reports Thomas and a fourth-round pick would be headed to the Broncos for a 2016 first- or second-rounder. With the deadline technically having passed, we should receive official word in the next 20-30 minutes.

NBC Denver reports the Broncos recently "talked conceptually" with the Browns about LT Joe Thomas, but that "no firm offer was made."

It doesn't sound like anything is cooking ahead of Tuesday afternoon's trade deadline. ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported the Browns are seeking two first-round picks. That's highly unlikely even though Thomas is a perennial All-Pro. We expect Thomas to remain in Cleveland.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns are looking for two first-round picks for LT Joe Thomas.

It is a ridiculous asking price for a soon-to-be 31-year-old tackle, even one as durable as Thomas. Unless the Browns bring their asking price down, Thomas will be sticking in Cleveland for the rest of the season.

Browns LT Joe Thomas said he does not want to be traded.

"I'm not a quitter," said Thomas. "I'm not a guy that gives up on my goals and my goal from day one was to be part of the turnaround here and that hasn't changed." The Browns have reportedly "engaged in discussions" regarding a potential trade of Thomas, who has started every game at left tackle for Cleveland since 2007. The trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns have "engaged in discussions" regarding potential trades of LT Joe Thomas and C Alex Mack.

Mack would be sensible to trade because he's expected to opt out of his contract following this season. Thomas is under the Browns' control through 2018, albeit at base salaries all in excess of $8 million. Thomas turns 31 in December and is still playing at a very high level. The Browns' willingness to trade two of their best players indicates they're considering yet another rebuild.

Browns LT Joe Thomas revealed he's played through three MCL tears in his career, in addition to two high ankle sprains.

This more gives us an opportunity to highlight Thomas' Ripkenian durability streak; he has never missed a game in eight NFL seasons while making eight straight Pro Bowls. He's played 7,917 consecutive offensive snaps. Still only 30 years old, Thomas is under the Browns' control through the 2018 season.
