When discussing the signing of RB Michael Bush, coach Bruce Arians said, "We need a guy who's gonna pound it in there and close out games for us."
It can be taken as a sign the Cardinals are going to use Bush in goal-line and short-yardage situations. With Andre Ellington averaging over 20 touches per game and looking like he may need a breather, it's not out of the question that Bush will step into a prominent role. It's a hit to Ellington's value, but we could also argue it's a boost. Ellington is most effective when he's fresh, and less touches would make him more explosive. He's still a solid RB1/2. Cardinals signed RB Michael Bush.

RB Kerwynn Williams has been waived in a corresponding roster move. Bush's name may sound like a blast from the past, but he appeared in 15 games for the Bears last season. Bush was dreadful during his two years in Chicago, averaging just 3.4 yards on 177 carries. He brings tons of experience to a backfield that lacks it, however. Although Andre Ellington's production has declined as his carries have increased and the schedule stiffened, Bush is zero threat to his No. 1 status. It's quite possible Bush will be no higher than No. 4 on the depth chart, but he could rise as high as No. 2.

Free agent RB Michael Bush worked out for the Redskins on Tuesday.

Bush was released by the Bears back in March after averaging 3.1 YPC last season and managing just eight touchdowns across 177 carries in Chicago as a short-yardage specialist. He turned 30 over the summer and is nearing the end of the line. Bush has previously visited the Patriots, but that's been it for him.

Free agent RB Michael Bush will visit the Patriots.

The Patriots are in the market for a big back after opting not to re-sign LeGarrette Blount. Bush averaged a pitiful 3.1 YPC with the Bears last season and was released at the start of the new league year. He'll turn 30 in June and hasn't drawn any known interest before now. Bush is the definition of a plodder.

Bears released RB Michael Bush.

Bush is getting the heave-ho just two years into a four-year deal. The move frees up $1.85 million in cap space, but leaves behind $2 million in dead money. Signed as a short-yardage specialist, Bush was a bust from the start, and finishes his Bears career with just eight touchdowns across 177 carries. He averaged a miserable 3.1 yards per carry in 2013. Three months shy of his 30th birthday, Bush is unlikely to draw much interest in the first wave of free agency.

ESPN Chicago believes the Bears could look to upgrade on Michael Bush at backup running back.

Bush carries a $3.85 million salary cap number for 2014 and was dreadful this past season, rushing for just 197 yards and averaging 3.1 YPC. Michael Ford might be given an opportunity to earn the No. 2 job behind Matt Forte, but we'd certainly expect the Bears to look for another running back via the draft. We'd consider Bush a near-lock to be released this offseason.

Bears backup RB Michael Bush is owed a $2.8 million base salary and $50,000 workout bonus in 2014.

Chicago will need salary cap space if it has designs on franchise tagging Jay Cutler. After averaging under five offensive touches per game in 2013, Bush is shaping up as a no-brainer offseason release candidate. The Bears could stay in-house with Michael Ford serving as Matt Forte's backup next season. Bush is running out of gas going on age 30. He averaged 3.1 YPC this year.

Michael Bush rushed twice for 11 yards in Chicago's Week 17 loss to the Packers.

Bush wasn't targeted in the passing game. Bush's second season in Chicago ends with just 63 carries for 197 yards (3.12 YPC) and three touchdowns. He caught only four passes. Going on 30 and due $2.8 million in 2014, Bush is a strong candidate to be cut. He has vanishingly little Dynasty-league value.

Michael Bush rushed seven times for 20 yards in Week 16 against the Eagles.

Bush didn't see the field until late in the fourth quarter. Despite scoring touchdowns in his previous two games, he wasn't used in short-yardage or red-zone situations and remains a strict backup to Matt Forte.

Michael Bush rushed three times for 44 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 15 win at Cleveland.

In a rare turn of events, Bush burst through a hole while trying to salt the clock away with just over two minutes remaining and went for a 40-yard score. His previous long run on the season was 15 yards. Bush can be dropped in all fantasy formats as we head into fantasy's Super Bowl week. Matt Forte has been remarkably healthy all year long.

Michael Bush rushed for 39 yards on eight carries and caught a 17-yard touchdown in Week 14 against the Cowboys.

Bush had his best game of the season tonight, and it surely will stay that way over the next few weeks. The Cowboys can't contain anyone on defense. Bush ran through gaping holes and caught a swing pass and walked in untouched for his score. Bush entered the night with 115 total yards on 46 touches through 11 games. He's not on the fantasy radar and is simply Matt Forte's change of pace.

Michael Bush managed one rush for 15 yards in the Bears' Week 13 loss to the Vikings.

Bush has only "vultured" two goal-line scores from Matt Forte all season. He has no fantasy value other than as a handcuff to cautious Forte owners.

Michael Bush rushed seven times for -5 yards and a touchdown in Week 12 against the Rams.

He caught one pass for 10 yards. It was an embarrassing effort for Bush, who could convert just one of five carries from the Rams' one-yard line for a touchdown. Twice Bush was stopped for a loss from the one, including once on fourth down. He also dropped a catchable pass on a 2nd-and-goal in the third quarter. An ineffective player in coach Marc Trestman's scheme, the Bears need to stop subbing Bush in for Matt Forte in money situations.

NFL writer Dan Pompei believes there's a possibility the Bears release Michael Bush in the offseason.

Pompei has covered the NFL for nearly 30 years and has ties to the Chicago area. Under new coach Marc Trestman, Bush is nothing more than a guy to give Matt Forte a breather. With a $2.8 million salary in the third year of a four-year deal in 2014, Bush may -- and likely will -- be cut. He's averaging just 2.1 YPC on 35 carries this season and isn't a factor in the passing game.
Fri, Nov 22, 2013 11:54:00 AM

Michael Bush rushed three times for five yards in Week 11 against the Ravens.

As is normally the case, Bush came in just to give Matt Forte a quick breather and wasn't involved in the passing game. Bush is purely a handcuff.
