Former Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez has moved on from football.
Gonzalez, 28, enrolled in the Stanford Graduate School of Business two weeks ago. "One hundred million percent, no doubt," Gonzalez said when asked if he's officially moved on from the NFL. Gonzalez signed with the Patriots this offseason but was released in May. "I'm actually happy they released me," Gonzalez added. He caught 99 passes for 1,307 yards and seven touchdowns from 2007-10 with the Colts before his career was marred by injuries. Sun, Sep 30, 2012 08:56:00 AM

According to the Boston Globe, the Patriots are believed to have given up so quickly on WR Anthony Gonzalez because he "just doesn't have the legs anymore."

In other words, Gonzalez's speed and short-area burst have been sapped by recurring leg injuries. The Patriots didn't even deem Gonzalez worth bringing to training camp. We wouldn't expect to see the 28-year-old in the NFL again.

Patriots released WR Anthony Gonzalez.

Gonzalez wasn't at OTAs last week. With no special teams value, he was already facing an uphill battle to make the final roster after the team added Brandon Lloyd, Jabar Gaffney, and Donte' Stallworth at receiver. Signed just over two months ago, the quick release leaves us to wonder if Gonzalez is reaching the end of the line in his NFL career. The 2007 first-rounder has just five receptions and 67 yards in the past three seasons.

Patriots signed WR Anthony Gonzalez, formerly of the Colts.

Once one of the most promising young receivers in football, Gonzalez has seen his career all but ended by injuries. Primarily sidelined by knee issues, the 2007 first-round pick has appeared in just 10 games since 2008. If Gonzalez can get and stay healthy, it's possible he'd be a shrewd low-cost flier on the Pats' part, but he'll be far from guaranteed a roster spot.

Free agent WR Anthony Gonzalez will visit the Patriots this weekend, a source tells the Boston Herald.

In typical Patriots fashion, Gonzalez is a low-price, low-risk kind of option. The 2007 first-round pick certainly has talent, but he's appeared in just 10 games over the last three seasons due to injury. Gonzalez's natural position is the slot -- a position held by Wes Welker in New England. Gonzalez is a backup at this point in his career.

The Colts have informed free agent Anthony Gonzalez that he will not be back with the club in 2012.

They told him via phone call on Friday. A first-round draft pick in 2007, Gonzalez is on the verge of washing out of the league due to so many injuries in Indy. He has caught just five passes for 67 yards over the past three seasons.

Anthony Gonzalez (groin) was held out of Colts practice for the second straight day Thursday.

This is just an FYI on a player who has appeared in only six games this season, drawing one target. Gonzalez is much closer to being out of football than ever regaining fantasy relevance. He'll be a free agent at season's end.

Anthony Gonzalez has recorded zero catches on one target all season.

Gonzalez has been healthy all season, but has been inactive three times and didn't even sniff the field on special teams in one game in which he was "active". The former first-round pick will head to free agency with nothing significant on tape since 2008.

Anthony Gonzalez and Blair White are both active for Sunday's game against the Browns.

The Colts' wideout corps is at full strength, but now there are severely fewer snaps to go around thanks to the increased use of two-wide sets. With Gonzalez and White the No. 4 and 5 receivers, they don't figure to see more than a handful of snaps at most. The Colts' inactives: QB Peyton Manning, RB Darren Evans, G Seth Olsen, LB Gary Brackett, LB Ernie Sims, CB Kevin Thomas and CB Chris Rucker.

Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) has resumed practicing fully.

Gonzalez was inactive for Week 1's loss to the Texans. Limited to just two games the past two seasons, Gonzalez was going to be a shaky fantasy proposition even if Peyton Manning was playing this season. Without him, Gonzalez is completely off the fantasy radar.

Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) and Blair White (back) are both inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.

The Colts will roll with just Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie as available wideouts. It's yet another sign that they plan on attempting a run-heavy scheme that involves fullbacks and double-tight sets. Other Colts inactives: QB Peyton Manning, DB Kevin Thomas, RB Darren Evans, OG Jamey Richard and DE Jerry Hughes.

Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) was limited again in Thursday's practice.

Gonzalez has little fantasy appeal this year as the Colts' fourth receiver in a passing game that will struggle with Kerry Collins as the new starter.

Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) was limited in Colts practice Wednesday.

Gonzalez has said he'll be ready for Sunday, but he'll need to turn in at least one full practice before the end of the week. Buried on the depth chart after appearing in only two games the past two seasons, Gonzalez might not be worth a look in deeper leagues even after Peyton Manning returns to action.

Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) did not practice Monday.

Gonzalez somehow made the team even though he missed virtually the entire training camp. He'll need to sustain health for an extended period before even thinking about climbing the depth chart. For what it's worth, he says he'll be available for Sunday's opener.

Anthony Gonzalez (hamstring) understands it's a "realistic possibility" he will be released this weekend.

Coach Jim Caldwell did little to clarify matters Tuesday. Caldwell cited Tony Dungy's maxim that the "most important ability is availability," which would seem to hurt the oft-injured Gonzalez. On the other hand, Caldwell acknowledged that Gonzalez "makes something happen" on the rare occasions when he does take the field.
