Raiders signed S Reggie Nelson to a two-year contract.
Nelson was easily the top safety remaining after leading the NFL in interceptions last year. It's an impact signing for an Oakland secondary that ranked in the bottom-half of the league. Nelson will replace Charles Woodson's role as a ballhawking safety in DC Ken Norton's scheme. His presence should allow T.J. Carrie to remain at corner. Apr 6 - 7:29 PM

Free agent S Reggie Nelson left Tuesday's Raiders visit without a deal.

A Tuesday morning report had Nelson likely to sign a contract during the visit, but nothing materialized. "Where it stands at this point would be a guess," wrote beat reporter Jerry McDonald. Nelson tied for the NFL lead in interceptions (8) last season and is by-far the best safety left on the market.

Free agent S Reggie Nelson is expected to sign with the Raiders on Tuesday.

Nelson dined with DC Ken Norton and DBs coach Marcus Robertson Monday night, and he is expected in for a physical Tuesday. Nelson's age -- 33 in September -- torpedoed his market, but he remained one of the better free safeties in the league last season. He will be yet another good addition for an organization quietly building one of the better rosters in football. Oakland should be a trendy playoff pick this season.

Free agent S Reggie Nelson will visit the Raiders.

The Raiders have a woefully thin safety corps. Nelson is going on 33, but remained one of the league's better center fielders for the Bengals last season. It's his first known visit in free agency, though he's "touched base" with the Titans.
Apr 4 - 2:00 PM

Titans GM Jon Robinson said he has "touched base" with free agent FS Reggie Nelson.

"Touched base" could mean very little, but the Titans are in the market for a free safety after releasing Michael Griffin prior to free agency. Nelson is easily the best safety available, but he will turn 33 in September. Tennessee has met with free agent S Rashad Johnson.

Mar 19 - 12:14 PM

The Redskins have reportedly shown "some interest" in free agent S Reggie Nelson.

Nelson played for the Bengals when Jay Gruden coordinated Cincinnati's offense. Although Nelson was a center-field free safety coming out of college in 2007, his career didn't take off until Mike Zimmer and Paul Guenther began using him closer to the line of scrimmage. He picked off an NFL-high eight passes in 2015 and would be a major upgrade to Washington's shaky safety corps.

Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports the Bengals are not interested in re-signing free agent S Reggie Nelson.

With 2013 third-round pick Shawn Williams ready for a bigger role and George Iloka locked up to a long-term deal, the Bengals appear comfortable letting Nelson walk. Nelson will turn 33 in September, but he showed no signs of decline while leading the league in interceptions last season. Robinson reports the Vikings and Bucs are interested.
Mar 9 - 2:11 PM

ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure reports Atlanta has expressed interest in free agent FS Reggie Nelson.

Nelson tied for the league lead with eight interceptions this past season and should find a healthy pay check despite entering his age-33 season. The Bengals and Nelson have expressed mutual interest in a new deal, but with this likely Nelson's last chance at a sizable pay day, he could chase the money.

Mar 7 - 6:14 PM

Impending free agent S Reggie Nelson said he 'would love' to re-sign with the Bengals.

The Bengals are reportedly interested in bringing Nelson back, making it likely something gets done. Nelson was one of the better safeties in the league last season, but he will turn 33 in September. A slight raise on a short-term deal could work for both sides.

Feb 23 - 9:24 AM

ESPN’s Coley Harvey expects the Bengals to re-sign free agent SS Reggie Nelson.

Nelson is coming off a career-best year, leading the NFL in interceptions (8) and grading out positively against the run per Pro Football Focus. Even entering his age-33 season, he’s going to make more than the $4.5 million he averaged the last four years. Nelson should be the Bengals’ top priority.

Feb 13 - 7:56 PM

Bengals S Reggie Nelson exited the Wild Card game against the Steelers with an ankle injury.

Nelson rolled his left ankle while sacking Ben Roethlisberger in the second quarter. He could not put any weight on his leg and was taken to the locker room. He was ruled out later in the second quarter. Nelson led the league with eight interceptions. Shawn Williams will replace him.
Jan 9 - 8:58 PM

Bengals S Reggie Nelson recorded 65 total tackles in 2013 after posting 85 in each of the previous two seasons.

This dip is almost certainly the product of Vontaze Burfict's presence in the Bengals' defense. Burfict gobbled up 171 total tackles last season. With fewer opportunities for cleanup duties, Nelson's days as a fantasy-relevant safety in IDP leagues appear to be behind him.

Bengals SS Reggie Nelson (hamstring) is listed as doubtful again in Week 11.

Nelson missed Week 10, and the "tired" Giants were unable to take advantage of his absence. We suspect the Chiefs in Week 11 will be unable to, as well.

Bengals SS Reggie Nelson is listed as doubtful for Week 10 with a hamstring injury.

Nelson didn't practice all week, and his absence will be a big blow to a Bengals defense already struggling mightily in the secondary. He and RCB Leon Hall have been Cincinnati's best two defensive backs. A solid IDP contributor, Nelson had racked up 59 tackles and a forced fumble in the initial eight games.

Bengals re-signed FS Reggie Nelson.

Nelson, 28, turned down a competitive offer from the Jets. The Bengals' free safety for the past two seasons, Nelson will maintain that role after causing ten combined turnovers in 2010-2011. Nelson's market was ultimately cool because he tackles poorly and is a one-dimensional "center-field" safety, but Mike Zimmer knows how to use him. This move shores up a position that had the potential to be a real problem area in Cincinnati.
