Bengals SS Reggie Nelson (hamstring) is listed as doubtful again in Week 11.
Nelson missed Week 10, and the "tired" Giants were unable to take advantage of his absence. We suspect the Chiefs in Week 11 will be unable to, as well. Fri, Nov 16, 2012 02:25:00 PM

Bengals SS Reggie Nelson is listed as doubtful for Week 10 with a hamstring injury.

Nelson didn't practice all week, and his absence will be a big blow to a Bengals defense already struggling mightily in the secondary. He and RCB Leon Hall have been Cincinnati's best two defensive backs. A solid IDP contributor, Nelson had racked up 59 tackles and a forced fumble in the initial eight games.

Bengals re-signed FS Reggie Nelson.

Nelson, 28, turned down a competitive offer from the Jets. The Bengals' free safety for the past two seasons, Nelson will maintain that role after causing ten combined turnovers in 2010-2011. Nelson's market was ultimately cool because he tackles poorly and is a one-dimensional "center-field" safety, but Mike Zimmer knows how to use him. This move shores up a position that had the potential to be a real problem area in Cincinnati.

The Bengals are "firmly in the running" to re-sign free agent FS Reggie Nelson.

Nelson is visiting the Jets this weekend, but the Bengals are apparently making an honest attempt to re-sign him after letting a number of other veteran in-house free agents get away. The Bengals would be hard pressed to find a 2012 upgrade on Nelson in free agency or the draft.

The Jets have reportedly submitted an offer to free agent FS Reggie Nelson.

Nelson had a "productive" two-day visit with Jets on Friday, and looks to be on the verge of signing. According to the New York Daily News, Nelson will consider the offer and make a decision within 24 hours. Free agent SS LaRon Landry is also scheduled to meet with the Jets on Sunday.

The Bengals are interested in re-signing free agent FS Reggie Nelson.

Nelson is coming off a "productive" Friday visit with the Jets, and is reportedly drawing interest from an unknown third team. The Bengals have let a number of veteran free agents walk this offseason, and it's unlikely they'll be the high bidders on Nelson.

Free agent FS Reggie Nelson is reportedly scheduled to visit the Jets on Friday.

Now that Brandon Meriweather has landed with the Redskins, Nelson appears to be the Jets' top target at safety. Although the team is also interested in LaRon Landry, Nelson is a better fit in deep coverage.

The Jets reportedly have preliminary interest in free agent safeties Reggie Nelson and Brandon Meriweather.

The Jets are stuck in the due diligence stage on both players, scheduling no visits just yet. Nelson was expected to draw interest from the Dolphins and Bengals as well. Meriweather is visiting Denver Tuesday night.

The player rep for Reggie Nelson confirms the free safety will reach the open market.

The Bengals have as much cap space as any team, but they have a habit of losing out to other teams on veteran players. In a weak safety class, Nelson will be No. 2 on the boards of many teams, behind only LaRon Landry. Free agent DEs Frostee Rucker and Jonathan Fanene are also expected to hit the open market.

The Bengals will be in contact with free agent FS Reggie Nelson's player reps on Monday.

Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy still considers Nelson more likely to hit the open market than re-sign with Cincinnati. Nelson, 28, is expected to search for a contract worth $5 million to $5.5 million per season. Deep-pocketed Dolphins owner Stephen Ross might be willing to satisfy Nelson's lofty contract demands.

A league source told the Cincinnati Enquirer that free agent FS Reggie Nelson might command upwards of $5.5 million per season and $2.5 million guaranteed annually on his next contract.

Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy clarifies that the "league source" is not Nelson's agent, but he may as well be. Nelson had two decent seasons under Mike Zimmer in Cincinnati, but he's one of the most timid defensive backs in football. He'd be grossly overpaid on that kind of money. Over, say, four years, the estimation would give Nelson a $22 million deal with $10 million guaranteed.

The Miami Herald believes the Dolphins could be interested in free agent FS Reggie Nelson.

The Herald has joined the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in speculating Nelson might end up in Miami. New Dolphins DC Kevin Coyle was Nelson's DBs coach the past two seasons, and Nelson is a Florida native. The Dolphins are also reportedly "searching for an upgrade at free safety." The speculation will intensify if Nelson reaches the open market.

Contract talks between the Bengals and free agent FS Reggie Nelson have been "quiet" with 11 days left before the start of free agency.

The Cincinnati Enquirer expects the Titans and Dolphins both to target Nelson if he hits the open market. At this point, it seems likely that he will. The Bengals opted to use the franchise tag on free agent K Mike Nugent over Nelson.

Free agent FS Reggie Nelson is considered the top option to replace Michael Griffin in Tennessee if the Titans don't utilize the franchise tag.

We wouldn't be so sure that Nelson gets away from Cincinnati. The Bengals have plenty of room under the cap and have identified Nelson as a top priority after a career year in 2011.
Thu, Mar 1, 2012 03:36:00 PM

Free agent FS Reggie Nelson is expected to be one of the Bengals' top priorities to re-sign next month.

The Bengals will also work to bring back defensive linemen Jonathan Fanene and Frostee Rucker. Nelson is coming off his best all-around season while SS Chris Crocker struggled mightily in the playoff loss to the Texans. Nelson could draw interest from the Dolphins, but the Bengals have the salary cap space to top all offers.
