Chiefs ILB Brandon Siler practiced Tuesday for the first time since undergoing Achilles surgery last August.
Siler blew out his Achilles on the final play of practice last August. Expected to compete for Jovan Belcher's starting job last summer, Siler will battle for a roster spot as a special teamer and reserve this year. Tue, Jun 12, 2012 05:59:00 PM

Chiefs signed ILB Brandon Siler (injured reserve, Achilles) to a one-year contract extension.

Signed in July, Siler didn't play a down this season after tearing his Achilles' tendon in training camp. He was expected to see a healthy dose of snaps alongside Derrick Johnson. A seventh-round pick of the Chargers in 2007, Siler made 12 starts in 58 career games before joining the Chiefs, notching 161 tackles and three sacks. Still only 26, Siler's extension suggests he has a good shot at getting healthy enough to make the Chiefs' 2012 roster.

Chiefs ILB Brandon Siler is out for the season with a torn Achilles' tendon.

Siler tore the Achilles' in Tuesday's practice and has already undergone surgery. The 25-year-old was a value pickup to open training camp, and likely would have pushed Jovan Belcher for a starting job during the season. Belcher is now locked in, and Demorrio Williams is the No. 3 inside backer.

Chiefs signed ILB Brandon Siler, formerly of the Chargers.

Just 25 years old, Siler made 12 starts over the past two seasons in San Diego, racking up 111 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions. Per Pro Football Focus' ratings, Siler graded out positively as both an inside pass rusher and cover 'backer last year. He also had seven special teams tackles in 2010 and should push for snaps immediately next to Derrick Johnson.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune expects the Chargers to allow ILB Brandon Siler to leave in free agency.

Siler has flashed as a run defender, but he doesn't seem to be a favorite of the organizational higher-ups. Still just 25, the 2007 seventh-round pick should find work as a rotational inside 'backer and special teamer elsewhere.

Chargers ILB Brandon Siler left in the second half Sunday after aggravating his rib injury.

Siler recorded 12 tackles last week and tried to give it a go against the Chiefs despite the injury, but ultimately he couldn't. Stephen Cooper is back in there with Siler out.

Brandon Siler started ahead of Stephen Cooper at inside linebacker in Sunday's loss to the Raiders.

Cooper's consistent nagging injuries have apparently allowed Siler to move ahead on the depth chart. When starting, Siler is an IDP asset. He racked up 12 tackles yesterday.

Chargers ILB Brandon Siler left Sunday's game in the first quarter after being shaken up.

Siler was starting in place of a banged up Stephen Cooper, who has now come on to replace him. Siler returned to the game in the second quarter.

Chargers ILB Brandon Siler is in the mix to start alongside Stephen Cooper this season.

This is the fallout from rookie Donald Butler's loss, as current starter Kevin Burnett is better suited for a nickel 'backer role. Siler did showed a lot of ability as a part-time player last season, also picking up eight starts. He was a steal in the seventh round of the 2007 draft and has some IDP appeal.

ILB Brandon Siler is likely to start for the Chargers against the Giants on Sunday.

With Kevin Burnett (questionable, ankle) and Tim Dobbins (doubtful, knee) likely out, the third-year man out of Florida will make his first career start. This is good news for the Giants' Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw.

The Chargers are convinced that second-year LB Brandon Siler is "bound for stardom," according to SI.com's Don Banks.

Siler fell to the seventh round in 2007 over attitude concerns, but made a big impact on special teams as a rookie. His role could expand on defense as a sophomore with ILB Stephen Cooper suspended the first four games.

Chargers signed seventh-round LB Brandon Siler to a four-year contract.

Siler left school a year too early, but has the talent to become a starting inside 'backer some day. He should work mostly on special teams initially.

Chargers selected Florida ILB Brandon Siler with the No. 240 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Siler shouldn't have left early but the Bolts may have gotten a steal for cheap at a position they are in need of depth. As a rookie, he'll play special teams and back up starters Stephen Cooper and Matt Wilhelm.

Florida LB Brandon Siler has declared himself eligible for the NFL Draft.

We're looking at nine Gator defenders being drafted in April, with Derrick Harvey's decision still pending. Siler was a true junior who probably received a first-day grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Committee. He's athletic enough to play inside or outside linebacker.
