Rams waived RB Antonio Pittman.
No surprise here as Pittman wasn't a good backup last season. Steven Jackson missed five games and Pittman failed to capitalize. Samkon Gado is the handcuff right now to Jackson, with Kenneth Darby the third-stringer. Sat, Sep 5, 2009 03:52:00 PM

Rams RB Antonio Pittman and TE Joe Klopfenstein appear to be facing tough roads to earn roster spots this summer.

Pittman was the team's second-leading rusher in 2008, but the Rams prefer Ken Darby and rookie Chris Ogbonnaya's versatility behind Steven Jackson. Klop never developed after the Rams blew a second-rounder on him in '06.

The Rams are expected to look to upgrade their backup running back spot next season.

At this point, Antonio Pittman is probably behind Kenneth Darby in the pecking order and may not be back. Dynasty owners of Steven Jackson are probably going to have to look elsewhere for a long-term handcuff.

The Rams revealed Monday that Antonio Pittman was a healthy inactive in Week 16 because he skipped Saturday's walkthrough practice. It's worth noting that Pittman turned 23 on Friday night.

What a bone-headed move this time of year. The unexcused absence also cost Pittman a $25K fine, or 7% of his $370,000 salary. With a new coaching staff likely in St. Louis next year, Pittman will stay in a battle for a roster spot.

Antonio Pittman rushed for 25 yards on six carries in the Rams' Week 13 loss.

He also had two awful drops, one on a checkdown from Marc Bulger and the other on a well-called screen play by OC Al Saunders that Pittman blew. Pittman's inability to excel on passing downs will keep his role very small as long as Steven Jackson is healthy. Pittman also doesn't make anyone miss.

Antonio Pittman generated only nine yards on eight carries and caught three passes for a total gain of 11 in the Rams' Week 12 loss.

The Bears flashed being a good matchup for runners in Week 11 against Green Bay, but it takes a far better talent than Pittman to make Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs miss. Steven Jackson (quads) is uncertain to return next Sunday, but either way Pittman should be on fantasy benches against Miami.

Antonio Pittman rushed 14 times for 95 yards in Week 11 against the 49ers.

Pittman played well while the rest of the team was awful, but unfortunately a huge early deficit limited him to just four second-half touches. He'll be a decent RB2 option if Steven Jackson sits again next week against the Bears.

Coach Jim Haslett challenged Antonio Pittman, the Rams' Week 11 starting tailback, to step up his game in Steven Jackson's absence.

"He needs to capitalize," Haslett said. "He can’t have 13 rushing attempts for 20 yards. He needs to break through and get a 100-yard game and show that he is a back that can play in this game for a long time. I’ve already told him that he needs to run his butt off this week." It sounds like if Pittman starts off well against San Francisco, he could get a ton of work on Sunday.

Antonio Pittman is on track to start the Rams' Week 11 game against San Francisco.

The 49ers' usually mediocre run defense looked good against Arizona last Monday because the Cards' running offense was so predictable, but they've allowed 10 rushing TDs through nine games and rank 16th overall. Pittman would be a decent flex gamble Sunday and should be owned in all leagues.

Antonio Pittman ran for 28 yards on 13 carries and caught two passes for 38 yards in the Rams' Week 10 loss to the Jets.

Pittman has proven that he is a capable, if nonexplosive option behind Steven Jackson but usually doesn't do well in difficult matchups. He should start in Week 11 at San Francisco if Jackson (quadriceps) is out again, but won't be a desirable fantasy play as more than a flex.

Antonio Pittman will be the Rams' starting tailback Sunday at the Jets.

It was supposed to be Ken Darby, but the coaching staff believes Pittman's hamstring is in good enough shape for him to be the lead back. None of the Rams' runners are good bets for production, but Pittman has the best chance for a halfway decent game. Steven Jackson is inactive, as expected.

Asked about his running back rotation in Week 11, Rams coach Jim Haslett said Friday that "all three of them will play."

He's referring to Antonio Pittman, Ken Darby, and Samkon Gado after Steven Jackson was ruled out. Darby will start the game, but Pittman is much more experienced, albeit injured. None of them is likely to see over 10-12 touches. We'd bench the whole group.

Antonio Pittman (hamstring) ran on the side of Rams practice Thursday and will try to practice some on Friday.

Pittman's addition to the Samkon Gado-Ken Darby rotation would make the carry split even cloudier. Don't try to carve value out of the Rams' backfield in Week 10. The Rams will probably just go pass heavy against the Jets.

Rams RB Antonio Pittman (hamstring) will miss Sunday's game against the Jets.

If Steven Jackson can't play, Kenneth Darby will start with Samkon Gado acting as the No. 2 running back. Keep an eye on Jackson's progress, but Darby won't be a strong fantasy play against a dominant Jets run defense regardless.

Rams coach Jim Haslett revealed in his post-game press conference that Antonio Pittman aggravated his previous leg injury during Sunday's loss and also injured his hamstring.

The leg injury is of greater long-term concern, as Pittman recently came back from a cracked fibula. A true aggravation of that break could threaten his season. Travis Minor was also concussed Sunday. The Rams' fourth option at tailback after Steven Jackson, Pittman, and Minor is Kenneth Darby.
