Okoye is back after appearing in six games for the Bears earlier this season. He compiled seven tackles and one sack in a rotational role. The Bears might be worried about the health of Stephen Paea (foot). Wed, Dec 12, 2012 11:16:00 AM

Bears agreed to terms with free agent DT Amobi Okoye, formerly of the Bucs.

Okoye signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the Bucs in April, but lost his roster spot due to knee woes. The Bears were quick to swoop in after he compiled 27 tackles and four sacks for them in 2011.

Bucs DT Amobi Okoye's knee has continued to be a problem throughout training camp despite his June scope.

"It’s not just one surgery," said coach Greg Schiano. "He has a history with that knee." Okoye has missed the Bucs' last two preseason games and practiced sparingly. Tampa Bay's interior defensive line is going to be a major weakness again this year. They'll be a running game to target in fantasy matchups.

Bucs DT Amobi Okoye has been cleared for camp after an offseason knee scope.

Okoye spent Wednesday on active/PUP, then was activated Thursday and practiced fully on Friday. The Bucs view Okoye as a three technique, backing up Gerald McCoy. Roy Miller and Gary Gibson will compete at nose tackle.

Bucs DT Amobi Okoye is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery.

It was merely a scope. Okoye is absent from Tuesday's practice, but coach Greg Schiano expects him to return as early as Wednesday. Expected to be a rotational lineman this season, Okoye should be back to full health for training camp.

Buccaneers signed DT Amobi Okoye to a one-year, $2 million contract.

A former first-round pick, Okoye started 59 games over the past five seasons, and will likely be part of a three-man rotation with 2011 starters Gerald McCoy and Brian Price. Entering his age-24 campaign, Okoye has upside, and is capable of providing an interior pass rush. He registered four sacks in 16 appearances with the Bears last season.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers' interest in free agent DT Amobi Okoye is "mutual."

The Times confirms Okoye is also receiving interest from the Broncos and Bengals, although the Buccaneers could offer him significant playing time in a three-man rotation. Usual third DT Roy Miller is coming off a poor year. Okoye could be the top reserve behind Gerald McCoy and Brian Price.

The Bears will not be re-signing free agent DT Amobi Okoye.

GM Phil Emery recently hinted Okoye was no longer in Chicago's plans. Per Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune, Okoye is "likely headed" to Denver, Cincinnati, or Tampa Bay. It sounds like the Broncos quietly entered the bidding.

Free agent DT Amobi Okoye will visit the Bengals on Tuesday.

He's also drawn interest from the Bucs, Patriots, and Broncos, but Cincinnati will be Okoye's first known visit. The Bears remain interested in re-signing him. Okoye will be part of a three-technique tackle rotation wherever he lands.

TheSidelineView.com reports free agent DT Amobi Okoye is drawing interest from the Bucs, Patriots and Broncos in addition to the Bengals and Bears.

Only the Bengals are believed to have lined up a visit, however. Okoye isn't known to have had contract talks with the Bears since the beginning of free agency. The former first-round bust will likely be a part of a three-technique tackle rotation wherever he ends up.

The Bengals have scheduled a meeting with free agent DT Amobi Okoye.

Okoye could spell three-technique tackle Geno Atkins in Cincinnati. The free agent visit will take place after this week's Owners Meetings. Okoye, who's still only 24, tallied four sacks in 16 appearances with the Bears last season.

Free agent DT Amobi Okoye will visit the Bengals after this week's owners meetings.

The Bengals are in the process of rebuilding their defensive line after losing Jonathan Fanene and Frostee Rucker, and Okoye would join DEs Derrick Harvey and Jamaal Anderson as veteran fliers. Okoye has received no other known interest since the beginning of free agency.

The Bears recently had a "good meeting" with free agent DT Amobi Okoye.

A bust in Houston, Okoye was effective as part of a rotation with Henry Melton after signing with the Bears last season, tallying four sacks and 27 tackles. The Bears reportedly explored a long-term extension with Okoye in December, and figure to lock him up before the start of free agency.

The Bears have reportedly explored a multi-year contract extension with Amobi Okoye.

Okoye, signed after being released by the Texans in July, has been primarily used in a rotation with Henry Melton as a "three-technique" and projects as an ideal fit in Chicago's 4-3 scheme. The former top-ten pick's four sacks this season are the second highest total of his five-year career.

The Bears are expected to start Amobi Okoye at three-technique tackle in Sunday night's game against Minnesota.

Usual three-tech Henry Melton will get the nod at right defensive end, in place of Julius Peppers (doubtful, knee). Israel Idonije will stay at left end, and Anthony Adams will take over for Matt Toeania (knee, out) at nose tackle. The Bears are without two starters on the defensive line and will likely struggle to generate pass rush against the Vikings.
