The Florida Times Union suggests the Jaguars will pursue a linebacker in the draft who can be "groomed" to replace MLB Paul Posluszny.
As beat writer Ryan O'Halloran notes, Posluszny's cap number "explodes" in 2014 with a $7.45M salary. He is the NFL's seventh highest paid inside linebacker, but Pro Football Focus graded Posluszny 47th out of 53 qualifying ILBs last season. Posluszny also was not acquired by the current Jags regime. Paul Posluszny set the Jaguars unofficial franchise record for tackles (231), breaking Hardy Nickerson's 2001 record of 230.

The Jacksonville coaching staff was liberal in their tackle count, also awarding WLB Russell Allen (201) the third-highest total in franchise history. The Florida Times-Union suggests there may have been some "fuzzy math" on Posluszny's total, as he broke Nickerson's record by one tackle. Posluszny graded out near the bottom of Pro Football Focus' ratings for 2012.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (shoulder surgery) was cleared for practice two weeks ago.

Poz was able to participate in offseason practices at less than 100 percent, so it's no surprise that he has since received the green light. Jacksonville's leading tackler expects to be "full-go" throughout training camp.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (shoulder surgery) is participating in OTAs.

Posluszny said in early April he was still "several steps" away from 100 percent, so he's apparently made a lot of progress in the past month. Posluszny has a lengthy injury history, but was the Jaguars' leading tackler as he appeared in all 16 games for the first time since 2008 last season.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (shoulder surgery) believes he would be able to play were it the regular season, but admits he's still "several steps" away from being 100 percent.

Posluszny remains without a firm return date, but could still be cleared to participate in OTAs. Barring a setback, he will be ready for training camp. A 2007 second-round pick, Posluszny has appeared in all 16 games just twice in five seasons.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (shoulder surgery) is "out of his sling."

Posluszny still doesn't have a concrete timetable for a return to football activities, but has a shot at being ready for OTAs. Barring a setback, the Jaguars' leading tackler from 2011 will be ready for training camp.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny has "no doubt" that he will be ready for the start of the 2012 season after undergoing shoulder surgery on January 11.

Posluszny does not consider the procedure to be "major." After having his sling removed in a few weeks, he'll meet with doctors to get a timetable on his return. It sounds like he will be fine for training camp.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny underwent surgery earlier this month to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Because the surgery took place so late in the process, Posluszny will likely be sidelined for all OTAs and questionable for the start of training camp. The Jaguars have retained defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, so Posluszny is already comfortable in the scheme. An elite run stopper, "Poz" was one of the primary reasons for Jacksonville's 2011 defensive turnaround.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny suffered a Week 17 shoulder separation and may need offseason surgery.

Posluszny could be heard screaming on the field, and needed doctors to "push it back in the socket." Any surgery shouldn't affect his status for Week 1 of 2012, but it could land him on the active/PUP list to open training camp. Signed to a $42M blockbuster last July, Posluszny was a stud run stuffer during his first year with Jacksonville. He led the club with 119 tackles.

Jaguars MLB Paul Pusluszny left Sunday's game in the second quarter with a shoulder sprain.

Poz is officially questionable to return, though Stephen Franklin opened the second half as the starter. A success in his first year with the Jags, Posluszny entered Week 17 with 115 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

Jaguars agreed to terms with MLB Paul Posluszny on a six-year, $42 million contract, including $15 million guaranteed.

The Bills "fought hard" to keep Poz, but he wanted to get back to a 4-3 defense. A now-aggressive Jacksonville front office budgeted for big signings at middle linebacker and safety, and they just reeled in one of their big fish. Posluszny figures to regain IDP stud status if he can stay healthy. Kirk Morrison will have to move to the weak side if he re-signs with the Jags.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, free agent MLB Paul Posluszny will sign with the Jaguars.

Glazer only said this in response to a Twitter question, but he wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true. There isn't a more accurate reporter on the NFL. Adding fire to the smoke was a previous report from NFL Network that the Jaguars were indeed targeting Posluszny. It looks like Kirk Morrison is no longer a lock to return, at least at the middle linebacker position.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the Jaguars are targeting free agent LB Paul Posluszny.

The Jaguars have budgeted for free agent signings at linebacker and safety, and Posluszny fits their profile of a young player with room for improvement. The Jags will likely get competition from the Bills and perhaps the Giants. LaCanfora confirms Eric Weddle and Dawan Landry are on Jacksonville's radar at safety.

Free agent LB Paul Posluszny says he would "definitely" consider signing with the Giants because of his connection to DC Perry Fewell.

"I love Coach Fewell and the type of defense that he ran when we were in Buffalo, you know, had a good relationship together," said Posluszny. Poz's priority is to re-sign with the Bills, but they're not going to get him back on the cheap. In New York, Posluszny could be an upgrade over Jonathan Goff in the middle.

Free agent LB Paul Posluszny tells NFL.com that he wants to return to Buffalo this summer.

The Bills have made it clear that re-signing their top linebacker will be a priority, but we hadn't heard from Poz since last November when he expressed a desire to return. Posluszy should have plenty of interested suitors, so the Bills will have to shell out more than $5 million per season.
