Paul Posluszny remains a three-down middle linebacker.
Posluszny will be 31 in October and has plenty of severe injuries on his resume. But the Jags aren't backing off, meaning he'll be a fine IDP target once again. Posluszny is averaging a gaudy 9.73 tackles per game in his last 38 outings. Jun 29 - 9:00 AM

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny hopes to be back to his normal playing weight by training camp.

Posluszny's weight dropped to 223 after undergoing chest surgery, but he's already back up to 235 and should be close to his normal weight of 242 by the time camp opens. He will be someone to target in IDP leagues this season.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny's one-year extension amounts to a new three-year contract worth $15 million.

Prior to the extension, Posluszny was owed $15 million across the next two seasons. So he's essentially tacked on another year for free, although Posluszny can earn an additional $3 million via incentives. Still, it's a deal that helps the Jaguars' cap and makes Posluszny more reasonably priced. He's owed $5 million annually, whereas he was owed $7.5 million per year on his old deal.

Jaguars signed MLB Paul Posluszny to a one-year extension through 2017.

He was previously under contract in 2015 and 2016 at base salaries of $7.45 million in each year. Heading into his age-31 season, Posluszny's on-field play has declined sharply in recent years, and he finished 2014 on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. It's possible the extension was done for salary cap purposes, but the Jags are in excellent financial condition. Either way, Posluszny is locked in as Jacksonville's starting middle linebacker and will be an IDP bounce-back target. He ranked second in the NFL in tackles (162) in 2013.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny's roster spot appears to be safe.

Posluszny is way overpaid, but coach Gus Bradley heaped praise on him at the Owners' Meetings. "We have a guy like that with Poz, who has that humility and intelligence and that warrior spirit," Bradley said. "It's hard to find those three traits." Posluszny will rack up tackles at the MIKE spot.

Coach Gus Bradley said he envisions MLB Paul Posluszny returning as a three-down player.

Posluszny is due $7.45M in 2015, way too much for an oft-injured and mediocre player at a low-value position. But at least on the surface, Bradley appears high on Poz as he comes off a torn pectoral. "He did such a good job for us," Bradley said. The Jaguars, armed with deep cap space, aren't under any pressure to move on.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (pectoral) expects to be 100 percent for the start of OTAs.

"I’ll be 100 percent," Posluszny said. "That shouldn’t be an issue for us." Posluszny tore his pectoral in October and missed the final nine weeks of the season. He's the leader of the Jaguars' defense as a tackling machine in the middle, but Poz's play has gone downhill the past three seasons. Due a $7.45 million salary in 2015, Posluszny is a candidate to be cut this offseason.

Jaguars placed MLB Paul Posluszny on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle, ending his season.

Fringe player J.T. Thomas will get the first shot at replacing Posluszny, who has been the Jaguars' leading tackler each of the past four seasons. Jeremiah George is next up behind Thomas. Posluszny is far from a star, but has been a reliable presence for a defense without much talent or valuable experience. Now on the wrong side of 30, Posluszny is signed through 2016, but it's quite possible his $7.45 million 2015 salary gets him cut in the offseason.

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell said he expects MLB Paul Posluszny to be with the team in 2014.

Posluszny, 29, is the owner of the Jaguars' steepest salary cap figure for next season at $9.5 million. Money is not an issue in Jacksonville. Posluszny led the team with his 161 tackles and recorded three sacks and nine pass breakups. Per Pro Football Focus, he was below average against the run, pass, and as a pass rusher. IDP leaguers love Posluszny because he racks up tackles.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (concussion) has been cleared.

It's safe for IDP owners to get Posluszny back into lineups ahead of the Week 12 game against the Texans. He's averaging 9.7 tackles per game on the year with one sack, one forced fumble and two interceptions.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (questionable, concussion) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Posluszny hasn't been cleared to return from his Week 10 concussion and will miss his first game since joining the Jaguars in 2011. Russell Allen will move inside to replace Posluszny, with John Lotulelei starting at weak-side linebacker.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (concussion) is not practicing Wednesday.

Posluszny went down late in the win over the Titans. His inability to get cleared for practice Wednesday clouds his availability for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Posluszny is a far better IDP linebacker than real-life option, racking up 9.7 tackles per game this season with one sack, one forced fumble and two interceptions. The Jags will move Russell Allen inside if Pos can't go.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny has been diagnosed with a concussion.

The Jaguars' middle linebacker suffered the injury in Sunday's win. Posluszny is struggling through another rough season, grading out as a bottom-five MIKE 'backer in Pro Football Focus' ratings. He's 50-50 for Sunday's game against Arizona.

The Florida Times Union suggests the Jaguars will pursue a linebacker in the draft who can be "groomed" to replace MLB Paul Posluszny.

As beat writer Ryan O'Halloran notes, Posluszny's cap number "explodes" in 2014 with a $7.45M salary. He is the NFL's seventh highest paid inside linebacker, but Pro Football Focus graded Posluszny 47th out of 53 qualifying ILBs last season. Posluszny also was not acquired by the current Jags regime.

Paul Posluszny set the Jaguars unofficial franchise record for tackles (231), breaking Hardy Nickerson's 2001 record of 230.

The Jacksonville coaching staff was liberal in their tackle count, also awarding WLB Russell Allen (201) the third-highest total in franchise history. The Florida Times-Union suggests there may have been some "fuzzy math" on Posluszny's total, as he broke Nickerson's record by one tackle. Posluszny graded out near the bottom of Pro Football Focus' ratings for 2012.
