Drew Stanton (knee) remained limited at Friday's practice and is questionable for Week 11 against the Texans.

Stanton has made a quick recovery from the sprained knee he suffered in last week's loss to Seattle. Regardless, it looks like Blaine Gabbert will be under center Sunday against Houston.
Nov 17 - 1:32 PM

Drew Stanton (knee) was seen warming up at the open portion of Thursday's practice.

Stanton was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice and will probably garner the same listing on Thursday. It sounds like the Cardinals are leaning toward starting Blaine Gabbert this week, regardless of Stanton's health.

Drew Stanton (knee) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

Stanton is dealing with a knee sprain suffered last Thursday night. He's expected to miss at least one week. Blaine Gabbert is on track to start Week 11 against Houston.
Nov 15 - 5:01 PM

Drew Stanton (knee) was seen throwing off to the side at Tuesday's practice.

The Cardinals won't be releasing an injury report until Wednesday, though it sounds like Stanton is making progress after suffering a sprained knee in Thursday night's loss to Seattle. Blaine Gabbert would likely start if Stanton is unavailable for Sunday's game at Houston.
Nov 14 - 1:24 PM

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports QB Drew Stanton sprained his knee in Week 10 against the Seahawks.

If Stanton is unable to go, Blaine Gabbert will start in Week 11 against Houston. The drop-off between Stanton and Gabbert likely won't be very noticeable.
Nov 11 - 11:53 AM

Drew Stanton completed 24-of-47 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals' Week 10 loss to the Seahawks.

Victimized by drops, Stanton didn't make his life any easier by misfiring on deep ball after deep ball. He had no feel down the field, missing completely wide open receivers more than once. Stanton's task was also made harder by the first quarter loss of LT D.J. Humphries. Stanton veered between replacement-level and dreadful. Although the matchup is not daunting in the Texans' injury-ravaged defense, Stanton will not be on the Week 11 streaming radar.
Nov 10 - 12:07 AM

Drew Stanton completed 15-of-30 passes for 201 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the Cardinals' Week 9 win over the 49ers.

Stanton came out firing, hitting John Brown with a 52-yard bomb on the first play of the game. He just overthrew Larry Fitzgerald on what should have been a touchdown later in the drive, but he got his touchdown on the next possession, getting lucky with a prayer of a pass which just happened to land in Jaron Brown’s arms. His second score was a more impressive throw put in the right spot as Jermaine Gresham boxed out the defensive back. He attempted the same pass late in the second quarter, but it was thrown behind the tight end and intercepted. After a slow start to the second half, Stanton orchestrated a long field-goal drive to widen the lead, and he picked up important third downs with both his arm and legs on another long drive which effectively ended the game. This was not an excellent performance from Stanton, but if he can continue to make big plays while Adrian Peterson moves the ball, Arizona's offense could do surprisingly well.
Nov 5 - 7:43 PM

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said the team will "stick with" Drew Stanton as their starting quarterback.

Carson Palmer suffered a broken arm Sunday which will sideline him at least eight weeks and possibly the rest of the season. Stanton completed just 5-of-14 passes for 62 yards with zero scores in over a half of work in relief against the Rams, and he has struggled to move the ball throughout his career. Arizona should strongly consider giving Blaine Gabbert a shot.

Drew Stanton completed just 5-of-14 passes for 62 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception in the Cardinals' Week 7 loss to the Rams.

Carson Palmer broke his left (non-throwing) arm in the second quarter and needs surgery. He's out for eight weeks and possibly the remainder of the season. Stanton came on in relief and was flat-out awful. His interception was thrown literally right to LB Mark Barron in the middle of the field. Stanton's play is inexcusable for an 11-year veteran. He's never been able to move the ball in his time with coach Bruce Arians. Stanton will be the starter moving forward, ahead of Blaine Gabbert. For now. Arizona heads into its bye before then going to San Francisco.
Oct 22 - 4:38 PM

Drew Stanton has won the Cardinals' backup quarterback job.

He was able to hold off Blaine Gabbert. Stanton started one game in place of an injured Carson Palmer last year, completing 11-of-28 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 5 win over the Niners.
Aug 22 - 3:46 PM

Drew Stanton completed 11-of-28 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns in Arizona's Week 5 win over the 49ers.

In a word, Stanton was awful, but all that mattered were the six passes he completed to Larry Fitzgerald, two of which went for scores. Fitz ran a sick route on the first touchdown, and walled off Tramaine Brock for the second. Mercifully for Arizona, Carson Palmer will be back against the Jets in Week 6, and hopefully every game after that.

Drew Stanton will start Week 5 against the 49ers on Thursday night.

Carson Palmer has been ruled out with a concussion on a short week. In relief of Palmer last Sunday, Stanton went 4-of-11 for 37 yards and two interceptions. He's as big of a downgrade as one can imagine. Larry Fitzgerald is now more of a WR3, while John Brown and Michael Floyd are low-floor WR4 plays. David Johnson will also face more stacked boxes in the running game.

Drew Stanton completed four-of-11 passes for 37 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions Sunday in the Cardinals' Week 4 loss to the Rams.

Stanton was put in the unenviable position of filling in for a concussed Carson Palmer with Arizona trailing late in the fourth quarter. He didn’t do much to help the cause, forcing a bad pass to Michael Floyd that was intercepted by Mark Barron with 1:34 remaining. Stanton got one more bite at the apple but blew it again, lobbing up a poor excuse for a Hail Mary as time expired for his second interception in as many drives. With Arizona playing on Thursday night, it’s unlikely Palmer will be cleared in time for Week 5. Even in a good matchup against the Niners, all of Arizona’s receivers would take a serious fantasy hit if Stanton is under center.

Cardinals backup QB Drew Stanton was told he will get a shot at the starting job once Carson Palmer retires.

Stanton re-signed on a two-year deal in March partly because of the potential starting opportunity. "I’ve found a great situation here in Arizona. Who knows how long Carson will play for," Stanton said. "I’ve had at-length discussions with everybody in the franchise (about the fact) that there’s a chance for me to be able to start when he’s done. So that’s the whole goal of all this." Palmer is nearing the end at 36, but Stanton is already 32-years-old himself. If he does eventually get a starting opportunity in Arizona, it will likely be as a veteran bridge to a younger quarterback.
