Drew Stanton completed 11-of-28 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns in Arizona's Week 5 win over the 49ers.
In a word, Stanton was awful, but all that mattered were the six passes he completed to Larry Fitzgerald, two of which went for scores. Fitz ran a sick route on the first touchdown, and walled off Tramaine Brock for the second. Mercifully for Arizona, Carson Palmer will be back against the Jets in Week 6, and hopefully every game after that. Thu, Oct 6, 2016 11:55:00 PM

Drew Stanton will start Week 5 against the 49ers on Thursday night.

Carson Palmer has been ruled out with a concussion on a short week. In relief of Palmer last Sunday, Stanton went 4-of-11 for 37 yards and two interceptions. He's as big of a downgrade as one can imagine. Larry Fitzgerald is now more of a WR3, while John Brown and Michael Floyd are low-floor WR4 plays. David Johnson will also face more stacked boxes in the running game.

Drew Stanton completed four-of-11 passes for 37 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions Sunday in the Cardinals' Week 4 loss to the Rams.

Stanton was put in the unenviable position of filling in for a concussed Carson Palmer with Arizona trailing late in the fourth quarter. He didn’t do much to help the cause, forcing a bad pass to Michael Floyd that was intercepted by Mark Barron with 1:34 remaining. Stanton got one more bite at the apple but blew it again, lobbing up a poor excuse for a Hail Mary as time expired for his second interception in as many drives. With Arizona playing on Thursday night, it’s unlikely Palmer will be cleared in time for Week 5. Even in a good matchup against the Niners, all of Arizona’s receivers would take a serious fantasy hit if Stanton is under center.

Cardinals backup QB Drew Stanton was told he will get a shot at the starting job once Carson Palmer retires.

Stanton re-signed on a two-year deal in March partly because of the potential starting opportunity. "I’ve found a great situation here in Arizona. Who knows how long Carson will play for," Stanton said. "I’ve had at-length discussions with everybody in the franchise (about the fact) that there’s a chance for me to be able to start when he’s done. So that’s the whole goal of all this." Palmer is nearing the end at 36, but Stanton is already 32-years-old himself. If he does eventually get a starting opportunity in Arizona, it will likely be as a veteran bridge to a younger quarterback.

Cardinals re-signed QB Drew Stanton to a two-year, $6.5 million contract.

Turning 32 in May, Stanton made it known he'd like to compete for a starting job outside of Arizona, but no teams offered him that opportunity. Stanton is big, athletic, and strong with a powerful arm, but he never developed into a starter due to flawed accuracy. He's basically a rich man's Tim Tebow. Stanton's re-signing locks in Matt Barkley as Arizona's third-string quarterback.

Drew Stanton (knee) has no limitations for OTAs.

Stanton will get the majority of first-team reps with Carson Palmer sidelined. He was forced into nine starts last year, throwing for 1,711 yards with a 7:5 TD/INT ratio. Stanton is owed $2.5M in the final year of his contract.

Drew Stanton said he doesn't need any further surgery on his knee.

Stanton was forced into nine starts this season, going 132-of-240 (55.0%) for 1,711 yards (7.12 YPA) with seven touchdowns, five interceptions and a 78.7 passer rating. He rode Todd Bowles' defense to a 6-3 record. A serviceable backup lacking an ability to carry a team, Stanton will likely return as Carson Palmer's clipboard holder in 2015. He's under contract for $2.45M in salary.

Cardinals declared QB Drew Stanton, WR Brittan Golden, S Chris Clemons, OG Jonathan Cooper, NT Alameda Ta’amu, OG Anthony Steen, and DE Kareem Martin inactive for Saturday's Wild Card game against the Panthers.

There are no surprises. NT Dan Williams (foot) is active. Stanton will have his knee examined this week, but is unlikely to be available if Arizona advances.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Cardinals QB Drew Stanton will have his recently-scoped knee examined this week, but there is "not a lot of optimism."

Stanton hopes to play in the Divisional Round if the Cardinals get past the Panthers on Saturday, but that appears to be a pipe dream. Stanton's season is likely over.

Drew Stanton (knee) has been ruled out for the Wild Card Round.

Ryan Lindley will start again. Stanton never really had a good chance of playing against the Panthers. Logan Thomas will back up Lindley at Carolina.

Drew Stanton (knee) did not practice Wednesday.

Stanton would need to return to practice by Thursday to start against the Panthers and isn't expected to play this week. He should be considered questionable for a potential Divisional Round game.

Drew Stanton (knee) would have to practice by Thursday to play in Saturday's Wild Card game.

The Cardinals keep insisting there's a chance Stanton might suit up against the Panthers, but it's not going to happen. He'd be highly questionable for a potential Divisional Round tilt.

GM Steve Keim said the team is "hopeful" Drew Stanton (knee) can play in Saturday's Wild Card game at Carolina.

The Cardinals are officially calling Stanton day to day. However, he's dealing with a serious sprain in his knee and reportedly underwent surgery to clean up an infection. We'll consider him very questionable for a game the 11-5 Cardinals are a four-point underdog in against the 7-8-1 Panthers.

Cardinals declared QB Drew Stanton, WR Brittan Golden, S Chris Clemons, LB Larry Foote, G Jonathan Cooper, G Anthony Steen, and DE Kareem Martin inactive for Week 17 at San Francisco.

Ryan Lindley is getting another start at quarterback.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Drew Stanton (knee) underwent surgery to clear an infection and may miss the remainder of the season.

The infection was discovered Wednesday, and Stanton immediately underwent surgery. Prior to that, he had been recovering well from his sprained MCL and ACL with an eye on returning for the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. The Cardinals will be forced to ride Ryan Lindley as a far as he can take them, which will likely be one-and-done in the postseason. It's a shame for an 11-4 team.
