Redskins DE Adam Carriker is unable to practice at OTAs due to continued recovery from last year's torn quadriceps muscle.
Carriker suffered the injury in Week 2, then encountered an offseason setback. His status for training camp is uncertain. With Stephen Bowen entrenched as the Redskins' right end, Jarvis Jenkins has the early leg up to start on the left side. Carriker figures to be the swing end if he's healthy for Week 1. Per CSN Washington, Adam Carriker and Jarvis Jenkins will compete for the Redskins' starting left end job.

Carriker started the first two games of last season before tearing his quad. Jenkins stepped in and manned the left end spot for the final 14 games. He recorded just 25 tackles, failing to register a single sack or forced fumble. Coach Mike Shanahan recently said Carriker is around 70 or 80 percent recovered, and it's uncertain if he'll be ready for training camp.

Redskins DE Adam Carriker (quadriceps) is around 70 or 80 percent.

Carriker tore his quad in Week 1 last season and then sustained a setback during rehab. "He's making strides," coach Mike Shanahan said. "It's much better than it was a month ago." The loss of Carriker followed by the Week 2 season-ending injury to OLB Brian Orakpo crippled the Redskins' defense. They ended up surrendering 377.7 yards per game, fifth-worst in the league.

Redskins DE Adam Carriker sustained a setback during his rehab from a torn quadriceps.

Carriker tore the muscle in Week 1 last season. Coach Mike Shanahan said the setback occurred toward the end of the regular season and "hopes" he'll be ready for Week 1. Carriker won't be counted on as anything more than a backup to Stephen Bowen and Jarvis Jenkins.

Redskins DE Adam Carriker's contract restructure converted $1.4 million of his base salary into "attainable" incentives.

We'll see just how attainable they are when he's backing up Jarvis Jenkins. Carriker essentially took a pay cut, although the Skins are now guaranteeing $2 million of his salary. He'll be on the 53-man roster on a reduced cap cost.
Mar 11 - 7:59 PM

Redskins DE Adam Carriker has restructured his contract and will return to the team in 2013.

Carriker was owed a $3.7 million base salary and $300,000 in offseason bonuses. He either took a pay cut (more likely) or simply moved money around (less likely) to free up salary cap space. Carriker, 29 in May, missed all but two games last season with a torn quadriceps tendon in his right leg. He'll likely return as the top backup to starting DEs Stephen Bowen and Jarvis Jenkins.
Mar 11 - 2:32 PM

Redskins DE Adam Carriker (injured reserve) underwent surgery to repair a torn quadriceps tendon in his right leg.

Carriker's recovery is expected to take five months. The six-year veteran, a favorite of DC Jim Haslett, signed a four-year, $20 million contract last March.

Redskins DE Adam Carriker has been diagnosed with a torn quad, and is done for the season.

It's a huge blow to the Redskins' depth. While they have 2011 second-round pick Jarvis Jenkins waiting in the wings opposite Stephen Bowen, the Skins can't afford to lose any more front-seven starters with Carriker and OLB Brian Orakpo (torn pectoral) set to hit injured reserve. Carriker, 28, signed a new four-year, $20 million contract in March. No part of the deal is guaranteed beyond 2012, so Carriker isn't assured of returning in 2013.

DE Adam Carriker is expected to undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season after seriously injuring his knee in the Redskins' Week 2 loss to the Rams.

Carriker went down on the second play of the game and never returned. He'll have an MRI on Monday, but the Redskins are not optimistic. "It doesn't look good," coach Mike Shanahan said. The 'Skins also lost OLB Brian Orakpo to another pectoral injury, leaving a gaping hole in their pass-rushing stable. It's good news for their Week 3 opponent, the Bengals.

Redskins re-signed DE Adam Carriker to a four-year, $20 million contract.

The deal reportedly contains $7 million in guarantees. A favorite of coordinator Jim Haslett, Carriker played nearly 60 percent of the defensive snaps at left end last season. Though he's a prototypical 3-4 end, Carriker must improve in run defense.

The Redskins are reportedly "working hard" to re-sign free agent DE Adam Carriker.

Patriots beat writers have suggested Carriker could be a target in New England. The 28-year-old graded out as one of the weakest 3-4 run-stoppers among defensive ends last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Redskins DE Adam Carriker has been seeing a lot of action on the first-team defense.

Coach Mike Shanahan has been singing Carriker's praises: "He’s done a great job. He’s going to help our defensive line. Very strong, very stout, very consistent." The former first-round pick is trying to shed the "bust" tag after a failed tenure in St. Louis, and he's probably a better fit in the 3-4.

Redskins DE Adam Carriker (shoulder surgery) has been physically cleared to resume football activities.

Carriker has as many surgeries as sacks (2) since being drafted by the Rams. The 'Skins gave up very little to get him, so he's a worthwhile reclamation project. Coach Mike Shanahan believes Carriker is ideally suited for the 3-4 end spot because of his size and arm length.

Redskins acquired DL Adam Carriker from the Rams for an exchange of fifth- and seventh-round picks in the 2010 NFL Draft.

The Rams send over the pick they acquired from Philly in last year's Will Witherspoon trade (No. 163) for the Skins' No. 132 selection. St. Louis moves down a few rungs in the seventh. Clearly, the Rams are convinced Carriker will never stay healthy. Jim Haslett has pushed to be reunited with Carriker since he got the Skins' defensive coordinator job two months ago, and Carriker is a much better fit at end in the 3-4 defense than he ever could've hoped to be in the Rams' 4-3. His addition makes it even more likely that Albert Haynesworth will be traded.

The Redskins have reportedly contacted the Rams about a potential trade for DT Adam Carriker.

Carriker has a connection with the Redskins, as new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett coached him in St. Louis. Though he's been injury-plagued the past two seasons, it's hard to picture the Rams trading the former first-rounder unless they go with a defensive tackle at No. 1 overall.
