Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (ACL surgery) reiterated Tuesday that he is on schedule to be healthy by training camp.
Meriweather injured his right knee numerous times in 2012, spraining multiple ligaments in the joint during preseason action, aggravating it twice, and then tearing the ACL in Week 11. The Redskins' free safety job is wide open for competition, but they are counting on Meriweather to be the strong safety starter. Apr 30 - 12:28 PM

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather agreed to slice his base salary from $2.45 million to $1.2 million.

It's believed to be a legit pay cut because Meriweather did not get the difference back in a signing bonus. Meriweather had little leverage after appearing in just one game last year before tearing his right ACL in mid-November. Now 29 years old, it's been several seasons since Meriweather was an effective safety.

The Redskins expect SS Brandon Meriweather (ACL surgery) to be ready for the start of training camp.

Meriweather missed the first nine games with a sprained left knee and was placed on injured reserve in Week 11 with a torn right ACL. He'll enter 2013 under contract for $2.45 million, but hasn't played a full season since 2010 and remains a red-flag injury risk. The Redskins also expect to have Brian Orakpo (chest) and DE Adam Carriker (quad) available at some point in training camp.

Redskins placed SS Brandon Meriweather on injured reserve with a torn right ACL, ending his season.

Another week, another defensive starter lost for the Redskins, though Meriweather will finish 2012 with just one appearance to his name. He missed the first nine games of the season with a sprained left knee. Under contract for $2.45 million next season, Meriweather will be in a race against time to be ready for camp. It's doubtful he'll be counted on as a starter. The former Pro Bowler turns 29 in January.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (knee) says he could have returned to Sunday's loss to the Eagles.

Meriweather claimed the Redskins were playing it safe with his right knee sprain since they play at Dallas on Thanksgiving. But it's easy to be skeptical since the ex-Patriot missed the first nine games of the year with a left knee sprain. Consider him questionable.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather limped off with an apparent right knee injury in Sunday's game versus the Eagles.

He just can't stay healthy. It was Meriweather's left knee that kept him out of the lineup until Sunday's game. DeJon Gomes has come on as his replacement.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (knee, questionable) is expected to make his 2012 debut on Sunday against the Eagles.

Reed Doughty has been getting the call at strong safety since Week 4, but Meriweather is expected to step in and start in his Washington debut. The six-year veteran tweaked his knee in the preseason then was involved in a pregame warm-ups collision prior to Week 4 where he suffered a setback. Meriweather will look to help shore up the league's third-worst pass defense.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (knee) practiced Monday, and expects to make his 2012 debut against the Eagles.

Meriweather tweaked his knee in the preseason before suffering a setback in Week 4. Although he'll provide a boost for the Redskins' bottom-three pass defense, he'll hardly be a godsend. The Redskins are unlikely to escape the bottom-five in enemy passing yards per game.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (knee) has been ruled out for Week 9.

Meriweather has yet to see the field in 2012. With him sidelined, the Redskins have used a rotation between Reed Doughty and Jordan Pugh opposite FS Madieu Williams.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (knee) has resumed practicing, but isn't expected to play in Week 8.

Meriweather is targeting a Week 9 return, but beat writer Chris Russell believes after the Redskins' Week 10 bye is more realistic. Washington's secondary needs all the help it can get, so Meriweather's return will be a nice boost, whenever it is.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (knee) will be sidelined at least four weeks.

Meriweather's ailment was originally diagnosed as an MCL/PCL injury, and it's clear he's dealing with some sort of tear. It's possible he won't return until after Washington's Week 10 bye. Reed Doughty has entered the starting lineup in Meriweather's absence.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather will be out "at least a week" with a left MCL/PCL injury.

It's not a "minor setback" as originally reported, though Meriweather's season doesn't appear to be in any danger. Meriweather has now dinged his left knee three times since camp. Coach Mike Shanahan said he'll be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. Reed Doughty started in Meriweather's place following his pre-game collision Sunday, and will likely be in the lineup against the Falcons. Injuries are decimating an already thin Redskins defense.

A source tells ESPN 980 that Brandon Meriweather's latest knee injury is a "minor setback."

Meriweather was going to make his season debut against the Bucs Sunday until a nasty pregame collision with WR Aldrick Robinson. The good news is that he said a Monday MRI came back "better than I thought." The Redskins desperately need a boost in the secondary.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather was a late scratch in Week 4 after a pregame collision with teammate Aldrick Robinson.

Robinson also was scratched. Meriweather was fully expected to make his season debut in this one, but his left knee unfortunately struck Robinson's head while the wideout was bending down to pick up a football. Reed Doughty, not struggling DeJon Gomes, started in Meriweather's place.

Redskins SS Brandon Meriweather (knee) is expected to make his regular season debut on Sunday against the Bucs.

Meriweather missed the final two preseason games and the regular season's first three weeks with a sprained left MCL. It's a welcome addition to a Redskins secondary that has been torched by the pass, ranking No. 31 in the league and allowing a league-high 10 passing scores. DeJon Gomes has filled in with 16 tackles and an interception.
