49ers hired ex-Eagles VP of player personnel Tom Gamble as senior personnel executive.
Fresh off losing a power struggle with Chip Kelly, Gamble returns to the team he worked for from 2005-13. Gamble has 28 years of NFL experience, and was a hot GM candidate when he headed to Philly in 2013. Gamble was considered a big part of the 49ers' draft success during his time in the Bay Area. Bringing Gamble back is one of the few positive moves the 49ers have made this offseason. Thu, Jan 29, 2015 04:18:00 PM

49ers signed OC Greg Roman to a two-year contract extension through 2015.

It's well deserved for one of the league's most creative offensive minds, but shouldn't prevent him from bolting for a head-coaching job next offseason. Roman might already be a head man if not for the 49ers' Super Bowl run. Although coach Jim Harbaugh deserves a ton of the credit for San Francisco's ever-evolving, visionary offense, it's Roman who keeps the trains running on time.

The Jets and Jaguars have both requested permission to interview 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble for their GM vacancies.

Working under GM Trent Baalke in San Francisco, Gamble is well regarded around the league and arguably the hottest general manager candidate in football. Both short on talent, the Jaguars and Jets would both be relatively undesirable landing spots for someone with the profile of Gamble's. That would especially be the case if Jacksonville tried to push Tim Tebow on him.

Coach Jim Harbaugh reportedly rejoined the 49ers halfway through practice Thursday after undergoing a minor heart procedure.

Harbaugh was in meetings earlier in the day, so he couldn't have been hospitalized more than a couple of hours. The quick turnaround suggests the procedure was as minor as can be and that Harbaugh will be on the sidelines Monday night if he so chooses.

Coach Jim Harbaugh underwent a minor procedure Thursday to correct an irregular heartbeat, but the 49ers expect him back at the facility on Friday.

LB Patrick Willis said Harbaugh "actually sat right behind me in meetings. He seemed fine. I didn't know anything was wrong ... He's tougher than a $2 steak." Harbaugh was sent to the hospital under doctor's orders. It does sound promising that Harbs will be back at work on Friday, though it's not clear whether he will be leading the team Monday night versus the Bears. Assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Brad Seely is overseeing Thursday's practice and meetings.

49ers signed GM Trent Baalke to an extension through 2016.

The NFL's 2011 Executive of the Year as voted by the Pro Football Writers of America, Baalke was promoted from 49ers VP of Player Personnel to GM in 2011. A scout going since 1998, Baalke looks to have nailed his first draft class. First-rounder Aldon Smith and third-rounder Chris Culliver are long-term building blocks, while Kendall Hunter (fourth round) and Bruce Miller (seventh) made major rookie-year impacts. The 49ers also got a promising young QB in freakishly strong-armed, athletic second-round pick Colin Kaepernick.

49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is a finalist for the head coaching job at Penn State University.

Roman interviewed for the job in November, and his agent said he expects to know whether Penn State will hire Roman "in about a week." Roman came to the 49ers by way of Jim Harbaugh, as the two coached together at Stanford. Per Roman's agent, his client was also offered the head-coaching job at Tulane. Instead, the Green Wave tabbed Saints WRs coach Curtis Johnson.

A second power outage has delayed Monday night's 49ers-Steelers game at the 12-minute mark of the second quarter.

The first outage pushed back the opening kickoff by 20 minutes. According to ESPN's Mike Tirico, the NFL has stated that the game will be postponed if another outage occurs. NFL security chief Jeff Miller said he remained confident the game could be finished even using an alternative power source because the problem appeared to be outside the stadium.

Monday Night Football between the 49ers and Steelers has been delayed due to a power outage.

The power throughout the stadium went off 25 minutes before the scheduled kickoff of 8:40 p.m. ET. According to ESPN’s Mike Tirico, emergency auxiliary lights have been turned on and an alternate power source will be used for the remainder of the game. Opening kickoff has been moved to 9 p.m. ET.

Representatives from the 49ers and Raiders have been meeting to discuss the feasibility of sharing a new football stadium.

Location is the key. The Niners have been pursuing a site in Santa Clara while the Raiders have preferred to rebuild on their own site. The San Jose Mercury News is reporting the new CBA includes three "stadium credits," which are considered precursors to NFL sponsored loans for building in three different locations. It's believed that San Francisco and Los Angeles are two of the three cities.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Sunday that he expects the NFL's lockout to be lifted in early July.

After the latest wave of tempered optimism, our hope has been that a new CBA would be reached by mid-July. It's nice to hear that corroborated in a public forum by an NFL head coach, who would seemingly have a good second-hand read on the situation. "I choose to be optimistic," Harbaugh said. "And I really think early July there's a chance a deal is done. That's kind of what I'm planning for."

The 49ers have reportedly hired Stanford assistant Greg Roman as Jim Harbaugh's new offensive coordinator.

Roman has NFL experience with the Panthers, Texans, and Ravens. He's credited with a good portion of Stanford's "offensive success and creativity" the past couple of seasons. With Harbaugh set as the primary play-caller, Roman's hiring won't have a big fantasy impact.

Jim Harbaugh's offensive line coach at Stanford, Greg Roman, is considered the favorite to land the 49ers' offensive coordinator job.

Roman lost out to Stanford's offensive coordinator David Shaw for the head coaching job at the school. Roman wore many hats at Stanford as the 2009 Tight Ends/Offensive Tackles/Running Game Coordinator and 2010 Associate Head Coach/Assistant Head Coach Offense/Tight Ends/Offensive Tackles. Harbaugh has already stated that he will call the plays in San Francisco.

49ers agreed to terms with former Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh on a five-year, $25 million contract that makes him San Francisco's next head coach.

The Niners already have a top-13 defense and plenty productive running game (when Frank Gore is healthy), so they always gave Harbaugh his best chance at immediate success. What's missing, of course, is a franchise quarterback. Harbaugh coached QBs in Oakland in the early 2000s, and has effectively developed Josh Johnson (University of San Diego) and Andrew Luck (Stanford) in each of his last two stops. At least on paper, he's a perfect fit in San Francisco and should help the fantasy outlooks of most 49ers.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported late Thursday night that Jim Harbaugh was in "strong talks" with the 49ers while Stanford was increasing their offer "considerably."

Glazer had sources from both the 49ers and Stanford insisting Harbaugh was going to sign with their team. "I've never seen anything so convoluted," Glazer said. Other NFL insiders have suggested that Stanford is Friday's "it" team after the Niners and Dolphins had their turns on Wednesday and Thursday. "I keep hearing Stanford," one source tells CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco. The only thing certain throughout this chase has been that Harbaugh's agent is working over the media.
