The Lions will host free agent WR Robert Meachem on Tuesday.
He'll be at the same visit as free agent WR/KR Brad Smith. Whereas Smith is a special teamer, Meachem is more of a rotational deep threat. Meachem knows Lions OC Joe Lombardi from their time together in New Orleans, and could put heat on incumbent rotational deep threat Corey Fuller in Detroit. Jun 8 - 4:37 PM

Robert Meachem caught his lone target for 16 yards in the Saints' Week 17 win over the Bucs.

Active only 11 times this season, Meachem caught seven passes for 114 yards. Currently unsigned for 2015, Meachem turns 31 in September.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune expects Robert Meachem to be active for the first time since Week 9.

Meachem missed three games with an ankle injury and has been a healthy scratch the last two weeks. The Saints released Joe Morgan, so he only needs to hold off UDFA Seantavius Jones. Meachem is no higher than the No. 4 receiver.

Saints declared WR Robert Meachem, RB Khiry Robinson, CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB Terrence Frederick, NT Lawrence Virgil, LB Kyle Knox, and OT Nick Becton inactive for Week 13 against the Steelers.

Meachem was listed as probable with an ankle injury, but he's fallen behind both Joe Morgan and Nick Toon. Robinson remains out with a forearm issue.

The Saints declared WR Robert Meachem, RB Khiry Robinson, CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB Terrence Frederick, LB Kyle Knox, OT Nick Becton, and DL Brandon Deaderick inactive for Week 12 against the Ravens.

Meachem has an ankle injury. His absence is even better news for Kenny Stills. Robinson remains without a timetable for return from a forearm injury.

Robert Meachem (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 12.

With Brandin Cooks out for the year, Meachem will be the No. 3 receiver if active. He has just five catches for 85 yards this season.

Robert Meachem (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 11.

Even if Meachem manages to play, he'll be a non-factor on offense. Meachem has just five catches for 85 yards this season.

Saints re-signed WR Robert Meachem.

Meachem was part of the Saints' final cuts, but is coming back four days later after New Orleans placed rookie LB Khairi Fortt on I.R./designated for return. Meachem will compete with Nick Toon and Joe Morgan for situational duties.

Saints waived/released WR Robert Meachem, OLB Keyunta Dawson, FB Greg Jones, OT Thomas Welch, C Matt Armstrong, WR Brandon Coleman, ILB Todd Davis, WR Charles Hawkins, TE Nic Jacobs, OG Marcel Jones, WR Seantavius Jones, OT Tavon Rooks, RB Derrick Strozier, NT Lawrence Virgil, S Pierre Warren and G/T Jason Weaver.

Meachem was hoping to hang on as a situational deep threat. One month shy of his 30th birthday, he should latch on elsewhere after reviving his career in New Orleans last season. Going on 29, Dawon appeared in eight games between the Saints and Titans in 2013.

ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett gives Robert Meachem a 50-50 chance at making the final roster.

Marques Colston, Brandin Cooks and Kenny Stills are locked in as the top-three wideouts. After that, there will be heated competition between Meachem, Nick Toon, Joe Morgan and UDFA Brandon Coleman. Meachem's blocking ability and experience in the scheme are pluses, but his age (30) will be an issue. The Saints typically only dress four wideouts on Sundays.

Saints re-signed WR Robert Meachem to a one-year contract.

After one miserable season in San Diego, Meachem returned to New Orleans in 2013 to catch 16 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns as a situational deep threat. Entering his age-30 season, Meachem will try and fill that role again in 2014 but should face competition from Joe Morgan and a rookie.

The Saints and free agent Robert Meachem have had "some initial talks" about a new contract.

There's no sense of urgency here, even with Meachem set to hit the market next week. He'll turn 30 in September, is coming off a 16-324-2 season and flopped horrifically when he signed with the Chargers in 2012. If the Saints lose Meachem, they can easily plug restricted free agent Joe Morgan into his role.

New Orleans and free agent Robert Meachem's representatives reportedly have discussed the possibility of a new contract.

The move would make sense as the Saints probably value Meachem more than any other team in the NFL. Sean Payton values Meachem's ability to block downfield, and Meachem had a disastrous stint with San Diego the last time he left New Orleans. No matter what happens, Meachem is unlikely to be a fantasy factor in 2014.

ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer expects the Cowboys to show interest in free agent Robert Meachem this offseason.

Meachem would be no higher than the Cowboys' No. 4 receiver if signed, but could be brought in as a low-paid veteran to replace Miles Austin, who is widely expected to be released as a post-June 1 cut. Meachem, 29, had 16 catches, 324 yards, and two touchdowns in 15 games with the Saints in 2013. He should be limited to non-guaranteed one-year deals in free agency.

Robert Meachem caught two passes for 69 yards in New Orleans' Divisional Round loss to the Seahawks.

52 of Meachem's yards came on a fluky fourth-quarter pass that should have been intercepted by Earl Thomas. Instead, the ball bounced off Thomas' hands right into Meachem's bread basket. Released by the Chargers in August, Meachem proved he wasn't dead for the Saints by catching 16 passes for 324 yards in 15 games, but is no guarantee to be back for 2014. Going on 30, the deep-ball specialist is headed to the open market.
