ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett gives Robert Meachem a 50-50 chance at making the final roster.
Marques Colston, Brandin Cooks and Kenny Stills are locked in as the top-three wideouts. After that, there will be heated competition between Meachem, Nick Toon, Joe Morgan and UDFA Brandon Coleman. Meachem's blocking ability and experience in the scheme are pluses, but his age (30) will be an issue. The Saints typically only dress four wideouts on Sundays. May 14 - 9:20 AM

Saints re-signed WR Robert Meachem to a one-year contract.

After one miserable season in San Diego, Meachem returned to New Orleans in 2013 to catch 16 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns as a situational deep threat. Entering his age-30 season, Meachem will try and fill that role again in 2014 but should face competition from Joe Morgan and a rookie.

The Saints and free agent Robert Meachem have had "some initial talks" about a new contract.

There's no sense of urgency here, even with Meachem set to hit the market next week. He'll turn 30 in September, is coming off a 16-324-2 season and flopped horrifically when he signed with the Chargers in 2012. If the Saints lose Meachem, they can easily plug restricted free agent Joe Morgan into his role.

New Orleans and free agent Robert Meachem's representatives reportedly have discussed the possibility of a new contract.

The move would make sense as the Saints probably value Meachem more than any other team in the NFL. Sean Payton values Meachem's ability to block downfield, and Meachem had a disastrous stint with San Diego the last time he left New Orleans. No matter what happens, Meachem is unlikely to be a fantasy factor in 2014.

ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer expects the Cowboys to show interest in free agent Robert Meachem this offseason.

Meachem would be no higher than the Cowboys' No. 4 receiver if signed, but could be brought in as a low-paid veteran to replace Miles Austin, who is widely expected to be released as a post-June 1 cut. Meachem, 29, had 16 catches, 324 yards, and two touchdowns in 15 games with the Saints in 2013. He should be limited to non-guaranteed one-year deals in free agency.

Robert Meachem caught two passes for 69 yards in New Orleans' Divisional Round loss to the Seahawks.

52 of Meachem's yards came on a fluky fourth-quarter pass that should have been intercepted by Earl Thomas. Instead, the ball bounced off Thomas' hands right into Meachem's bread basket. Released by the Chargers in August, Meachem proved he wasn't dead for the Saints by catching 16 passes for 324 yards in 15 games, but is no guarantee to be back for 2014. Going on 30, the deep-ball specialist is headed to the open market.

Robert Meachem caught one pass for 40 yards in Saturday's Wild Card win at Philadelphia.

Meachem made his one target count. On a 1st-and-10 from their own 37-yard line in the fourth quarter, the Saints dialed up a double move for Meachem and he broke wide open. The situational deep threat will see another one or two targets against the Seahawks in the Divisional Round next week.
Jan 5 - 12:55 AM

Robert Meachem caught a 41-yard touchdown in Week 17 versus Tampa Bay.

It was Meachem's lone target on the day. He beat Darrelle Revis up the right sideline to reel in the score in the front corner of the end zone. After being released by the Chargers, Meachem rejoined the Saints and caught 16 balls for 324 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 4 receiver. He'll play limited snaps in the playoffs.

Robert Meachem caught two passes for 78 yards in New Orleans' Week 11 win over the 49ers.

Meachem also tweaked his shoulder, but played through the injury. The one-dimensional deep threat now has 10 catches for 237 yards in nine games since reuniting with the Saints.

Robert Meachem caught one pass for 17 yards in Week 10 against the Cowboys.

It was his only target of the night. Meachem had a season-high 93 receiving yards with Marques Colston sidelined in Week 9, but remains behind Kenny Stills and Lance Moore for targets. He can continue to be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Robert Meachem caught four passes for 93 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 9 loss to the Jets.

With Marques Colston (knee) inactive and Darren Sproles concussed on the first drive, Meachem set season-highs across the board. Don't expect it to be a trend. Meachem is still on pace for just 14 catches, 284 yards and two touchdowns.

Robert Meachem failed to reel in his lone Week 4 target versus Miami.

Meachem played behind both Kenny Stills and Nick Toon on Monday night. He has just two catches for 34 yards and one touchdown through three games.

Robert Meachem caught two passes for 34 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Cardinals.

Meachem's first catch of his second tour with the Saints went for a score. Drew Brees faked a screen pass to Darren Sproles and then found Meachem deep behind the secondary. It looks like he's already forced at least an even timeshare with Kenny Stills at the No. 3 wideout spot. Still, there will be far too much inconsistency to make a fantasy add.

Robert Meachem recorded no catches in Sunday's Week 2 win over the Bucs.

Making his second tour of duty with the Saints, Meachem was active for the first time in this one. He saw one deep bomb from Drew Brees and couldn't come up with it. Meachem remains behind Kenny Stills.
Sun, Sep 15, 2013 09:23:00 PM

Saints declared WR Robert Meachem, OLB Martez Wilson, WR Andy Tanner, RB Khiry Robinson, S Isa Abdul-Quddus, OT Terron Armstead and DE Glenn Foster inactive for Week 1 against the Falcons.

Meachem was signed just five days ago, and didn't have enough time to get up to speed. Rookie Kenny Stills will serve as Drew Brees' primary field stretcher in what should be a high-scoring affair. Wilson is a surprise inactive after getting in a full week of practice, but missed the entire preseason with an elbow injury. It further decimates New Orleans' wafer-thin front seven.
