Cowboys signed OLB Justin Durant to a one-year contract.
Durant was a Cowboy from 2013-14 before spending last season in Atlanta. Going on 31, Durant missed 10 games with a torn biceps in 2014 before playing 661 mostly ineffective snaps for the Falcons. He provides depth with Rolando McClain suspended, but won't be immediately sliding into a starting job. Kyle Wilber, Andrew Gachkar and Mark Nzeocha are Durant's compatriots in the linebacker corps behind WLB Sean Lee and MLB Anthony Hitchens. Jul 18 - 3:17 PM

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the Cowboys are "talking to" free agent LB Justin Durant.

With Rolando McClain suspended the first 10 games, the Cowboys are desperate for help at linebacker. Durant started 12 games for Dallas across two seasons before leaving for the Falcons last year. He was terrible in Atlanta, however, and it is not a given he beats out Anthony Hitchens, Andrew Gachkar, or Mark Nzeocha even if he signs.

Falcons released LB Justin Durant.

The ex-Cowboy started 12 games for the Falcons in 2015. He was sub-replacement level on the strong side, playing 661 ineffective snaps. His release creates $2.34 million in cap space. It's a no-brainer move for the Falcons. Durant turns 31 in September.

Falcons SLB Justin Durant has a sprained elbow.

Coach Dan Quinn made it sound like Durant is day to day, but that shouldn't be taken for granted considering Durant's injury history. Durant has been hogging snaps through his first four games in a Falcons uniform, but hasn't been particularly effective.

Falcons agreed to terms with LB Justin Durant, formerly of the Cowboys.

29-year-old Durant has been a quality starter when healthy, but injuries have dogged him for much of his career. He tore his bicep in Week 8 of last season, landing on I.R. One of Durant's primary calling cards is his versatility. He can play all three linebacker positions. We wouldn't be surprised if Durant emerged as new coach Dan Quinn's weak-side 'backer in Atlanta.

Free agent LB Justin Durant (bicep) has been medically cleared to participate in offseason workouts.

Durant tore his bicep in Week 8 and was sent to I.R. Prior to going down, he was playing strong defense as the Cowboys' strong-side linebacker. The No. 48 overall pick in the 2007 draft will turn 30 in September and has played a full 16-game season just once in his career. He's not going to command much money on the open market, though the Cowboys would probably like to re-sign him.

Cowboys placed SLB Justin Durant on injured reserve with a torn right bicep, ending his season.

Durant was hurt on Monday night against the Redskins. It's a big loss for a defense already searching for more talent. The Cowboys signed veteran LB Tim Dobbins to take Durant's roster spot. Rookie LB Anthony Hitchens will be tasked with strong-side duties. Durant is set to be a free agent in March.

Cowboys OLB Justin Durant tore his right bicep in Monday's Week 8 loss to the Redskins and is out for the year.

It's a major injury to a no-name defense that already lost MLB Sean Lee and just can't afford to lose any talent. Durant was the unit's captain and leading tackler (per the coaches' tape). "He's in the top three or four performers we've had this year on defense," Jerry Jones said. The Cowboys will need fourth-round rookie Anthony Hitchens to step up alongside Rolando McClain and Bruce Carter.

Cowboys SLB Justin Durant exited Week 8 against the Redskins with an arm injury.

He's been ruled out for the rest of the game. Durant has missed some time this season, but has been a key member of this underrated defense when he has been in there. Durant is a top-12 4-3 outside linebacker at Pro Football Focus.

Cowboys declared SLB Justin Durant, DT Ken Bishop, OT Donald Hawkins, OT Darrion Weems, DE Anthony Spencer, DE Lavar Edwards and QB Dustin Vaughan inactive for Week 2 against the Titans.

Durant is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a groin injury. Rookie Anthony Hitchens is taking his place in the middle. Spencer remains week to week.

Cowboys SLB Justin Durant is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a groin injury.

Durant played middle linebacker in the preseason and was named the defensive captain after MLB Sean Lee went down, but he shifted to the SAM spot in Week 1 with Rolando McClain ready to play a bigger role. The Cowboys' already thin linebacker corps takes another hit. Look for Kyle Wilber to fill in for Durant.

The Cowboys may open the season with Justin Durant as their lone every-down linebacker.

The team is reportedly considering a committee approach at the two other positions. Whether Durant's position will be middle or weak-side linebacker also remains unsettled. Fourth-round rookie Anthony Hitchens, Rolando McClain, Kyle Wilber, and Bruce Carter are all competing for complementary snaps.

According to ESPN Dallas, the Cowboys are "unsure" about MLB Justin Durant's coverage ability.

This may be a nice way of saying they think Durant can't cover, though he did rate positively in Pro Football Focus' 2013 pass-coverage grades. Still, Dallas' Mike 'backer job is open to competition, and it's possible Durant will wind up as a two-down player. His IDP sleeper appeal hangs in the balance.

ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer says Justin Durant will "likely be the first-team middle linebacker" when Cowboys camp opens.

The Cowboys took a flier on former first-round pick Rolando McClain, but Archer believes it is a long-shot McClain is ready to go early in camp. Even though he is the de facto starter, Durant is not completely comfortable in the middle. When asked if the Mike linebacker spot was his strongest, Durant said, "Probably not, just because I’m not as familiar with middle as outside."

ESPN Dallas expects Justin Durant to be the Cowboys' Week 1 starter at middle linebacker.

Durant was viewed as a possible cap casualty prior to Sean Lee (ACL) going down, but has been getting first-team reps over DeVonte Hollman and rookie Anthony Hitchens. He's the early favorite to start at MIKE. Durant doesn't even have a guaranteed roster spot, but should be treated as a deep IDP sleeper.
