Former Falcons OG Justin Blalock announced his retirement from football.
The 31-year-old will hang up his cleats after failing to generate much interest during free agency. Blalock started 125 games over eight seasons, all with Atlanta. PFF graded him 26th out of 78 qualified guards last season. Jun 15 - 2:12 PM

There's reportedly nothing at all going on between the Rams and free agent OG Justin Blalock right now.

The Rams spent the No. 10 overall pick on Todd Gurley. The problem is they have no one to block for him, an annual problem in the Jeff Fisher era. Perhaps they'll go aggressively after the reliable Blalock after the draft.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, free agent OG Justin Blalock recently "checked in" with the Titans.

There's no telling what "checking in" means on Blalock's behalf, but perhaps it's an indication Blalock would like to play for Tennessee. He could be a cheaper alternative to overpaid LG Andy Levitre opposite Chance Warmack.

Free agent OG Justin Blalock left his visit with the Lions without a deal.

The visit reportedly went well, but Blalock will visit the Rams at least before making his decision. The Titans are also reportedly interested. As reliable as they come, Blalock has started all but three games during his eight-year career.

Free agent OG Justin Blalock will visit the Lions on Thursday.

Unless someone unexpected jumps into the mix, it looks like Blalock's decision will come down to Detroit or St. Louis. Blalock has spent the last eight seasons with Atlanta, starting 125 of a possible 128 games.

Free agent OG Justin Blalock will visit the Rams.

The Rams are in the market for three offensive linemen, with all three of Jake Long, Scott Wells, and Joe Barksdale free agents. Blalock turned 31 in December. He's annually above-average in pass pro. The Lions are also in on Blalock.
Mar 11 - 12:14 PM

The Rams have shown interest in free agent OG Justin Blalock.

The Falcons cut Blalock in February because he doesn't fit new OC Kyle Shanahan's zone scheme. A power-blocking mauler, Blalock would be better suited to clear holes in St. Louis. He turned 31 years old this past December.
Mar 8 - 9:42 PM

Falcons released LG Justin Blalock.

The move clears $3.8 million in cap room, but creates a need in Atlanta. The Falcons' starting left guard since he entered the NFL in 2007, Blalock was likely deemed a poor schematic fit for new OC Kyle Shanahan's zone-run game. Pro Football Focus gave Blalock above-average marks in 2014, and he just turned 31. Expect Blalock to draw interest from power-blocking teams.
Feb 27 - 2:14 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution admits Falcons LG Justin Blalock may not be a fit for new OC Kyle Shanahan's offense.

Shanahan is heavily-reliant on the zone-blocking system, which needs athletic linemen to function. Blalock tips the scales at 6-foot-4 and 326 pounds. Bigger linemen are fine, but big linemen that can't get out in space and move don't work for Shanahan. Blalock battled a back injury this past season and had poor agility scores coming out of Texas in 2007. He carries a $7.91 million cap number.
Feb 10 - 8:53 PM

Falcons LG Justin Blalock exited Sunday's Week 4 game against the Vikings with a back injury.

Gabe Carimi is now in at left guard. Atlanta has lost Blalock, RT Lamar Holmes, and C Joe Hawley in this one, leaving TE Levine Toilolo manning right tackle.

Falcons LG Justin Blalock is scheduled to count $7.66 million against the salary cap in 2014 and could be a candidate for a contract extension.

Blalock inked a six-year deal ahead of the 2011 season and has two years left on that contract. He's still playing at an above-average level and was inarguably Atlanta's top offensive lineman this past season. Blalock just turned 30 years old. Interior linemen age better than other positions on the field.

Falcons agreed to terms with LG Justin Blalock on a six-year contract.

GM Thomas Dimitroff did well to keep Blalock and RT Tyson Clabo after preparing for the worst this offseason. Last year's third-rounder Mike Johnson will step in at right guard for Harvey Dahl, leaving Matt Ryan with an above-average offensive line once again. Solid across the board and still just 27, Blalock graded out as Pro Football Focus' seventh-ranked left guard in 2010.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution expects LG Justin Blalock to price himself out of the Falcons' range in free agency.

We guessed that Blalock would be the one free agent offensive lineman Atlanta would work hard to retain because he's younger than Harvey Dahl and Tyson Clabo. The AJC disagrees. A 27-year-old power blocker at 6-foot-4, 329, Blalock would be an excellent fit in Minnesota with old Falcons QBs coach Bill Musgrave. The Falcons are going to have a lot of turnover on the line.

Falcons' rookie guard Justin Blalock was injured in the third quarter of Sunday's game.

Trainers were looking at Blalock's lower leg. He appeared to be getting re-taped on the sidelines and may be heading back in.

Falcons signed second-round OL Justin Blalock to a five-year contract..

Blalock, a Texas alum and the strongest player at the NFL Combine, is expected to be the Falcons' new starting left guard.
