Former Bucs OG Arron Sears was released Tuesday after 62 days in jail on a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer.
The officer involved opted not to pursue charges, recognizing that Sears would be best served by entering an 18-month mental health pretrial intervention program. If Sears successfully completes the much-needed program, the charges will be dropped. Tue, Apr 5, 2011 05:27:00 PM

Former Bucs OG Arron Sears, in jail for the past 34 days, has a hearing Thursday to determine if he will receive psychiatric help after assaulting a law enforcement officer.

He needs it, and the assistant state attorney acknowledges that it's "not always about sending people prison" if they're mentally unstable. Police have made 11 visits to Sears' home in the past nine months, including once when Sears referred to himself as "God." In a short stay at a mental hospital Sears "demanded a beer and a black and mild (cigar)," threatening that the "place is going to blow" when he was denied. Sears is now indigent, and his NFL career is over at age 26.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers OG Arron Sears was arrested again Wednesday for failing to appear at a December court hearing.

Sears, who has dealt with serious bouts of anxiety/depression, was originally arrested last June for assaulting a law enforcement officer. He was also arrested in November when he was found wandering the streets in Tampa. Sadly, Sears' "personal problem" has likely put an end to a once-promising NFL career.

The St. Petersburg Times hints that free agent OG Arron Sears' latest setback was related to anxiety disorder and/or depression.

The Bucs have tried to keep Sears' personal problems under wraps, but it's clear he is suffering with mental issues. According to the St. Pete Times, some people within the Bucs think that Sears, 25, will never play again.

Free agent OG Arron Sears reportedly had a setback in his comeback attempt before the Bucs waived him on Monday.

"He might not play again," according to the St. Petersburg Times. Details of the setback are unclear. In March, coach Raheem Morris called Sears' problems "a private situation." Sears seems likely to pass through waivers.

Bucs waived OG Arron Sears.

A former top-35 overall pick and 31-game starter for the Bucs in 2007 and 2008, Sears' career is in doubt after he sat out all of last year due to a mental disorder. He has a place in the league if he wants to keep playing.

Bucs GM Mark Dominik is optimistic that OG Arron Sears (personal issues) can be a contributor going forward.

"Aaron has been here, he's been in camp, showing up here working out," Dominik said. "The hope is he can continue to work out and get himself into shape. He's got an entire offseason to see what he can do." When in shape and his head's on straight, Sears can be a dominating interior run blocker.

Bucs OG Arron Sears, on the reserve/non-football injury list last season, is working out at One Buccaneer Place with an eye on being ready for OTAs this year.

Sears has to get back into football shape and pick up Greg Olson's offense after missing all of last year, including offseason workouts. The Bucs can't count on him contributing, but if all goes well he could work his way back into their plans.

Bucs GM Mark Domenik said it's "wishful thinking" to say OG Aaron Sears will contribute this season.

Sears has been medically cleared to practice, but he's out of shape. Still, Sears' return gives the team something to look forward to in 2010, even if it's just their mauling offensive guard's likely return to the lineup.

Bucs OG Arron Sears has been reinstated from the Reserve/Did Not Report list.

The Bucs have a two-week roster exemption, and Sears can begin practicing immediately. It's great news for a player who struggled through concussion related problems as well as depression for much of the past year.

Bucs OG Aaron Sears, currently on the Reserve/Did Not Report list, is no longer suffering from symptoms related to a concussion sustained last season.

Sears has been through Tampa of late, but he has yet to contact the Bucs. It's believed that he's dealing with clinical depression and his NFL career may well be over.

Bucs beat writer Roy Cummings thinks OG Aaron Sears' career as a Buc is over and that we've "probably seen the last of him in any kind of an NFL uniform."

We still don't know exactly what is going on with Sears, but it's been called a "private matter." He's reportedly dealing with issues stemming from a concussion.
