After allegedly falling out of shape during the 2012 season, OLB LaMarr Woodley said he's "getting after it" in the Steelers' offseason conditioning program.
"I've been training since the middle of February," he said. Woodley has missed nine games over the past two seasons and registered just four sacks across 13 appearances last year. The Steelers need more out of him. They can field a special pass-rush duo along with rookie Jarvis Jones if Woodley gets in shape. May 5 - 9:46 AM

Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley has agreed to a restructured contract.

Woodley converted about $5.4 million of his $9 million salary into a signing bonus, clearing roughly $4 million in cap space. Woodley notched 27 tackles and four sacks in 13 games last season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Steelers "will" restructure OLB LaMarr Woodley's contract.

It was an expected move. Woodley's $9 million base salary is one of the highest on the Steelers. A large chunk of it — perhaps all the way down to the minimum — should be converted to a signing bonus. The Steelers are running wild restructuring deals, creating even more severe cap issues down the line.

The Steelers have yet to approach OLB LaMarr Woodley about restructuring his contract.

Beat writer Ed Bouchette considers Woodley a "likely candidate" to restructure. The Steelers are already reworking Ben Roethlisberger, Lawrence Timmons and James Harrison's deals. The Steelers want Woodley to get into better shape for 2013, but he doesn't appear to be a candidate for release.
Feb 26 - 3:24 PM

One teammate blamed Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley's 2012 injuries and poor performance on Woodley being out of shape.

"He was awful," the teammate said. "He tells us he works out, but we didn't see it. He wasn't in shape. That has to be a reason why he was always hurt." Woodley was also injured often in 2011. Beat writer Ron Cook opined that Woodley looked "heavy and slow" last season, resulting in a career-worst year. Woodley is plenty capable of turning things around, but it's fair to wonder if he packed it in a bit after getting paid in 2011. That August, the Steelers signed Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed.
Feb 17 - 9:09 PM

The Steelers believe OLB LaMarr Woodley needs to approach offseason workouts "with more diligence" after an injury-riddled 2012 campaign.

Woodley battled ankle and hamstring injuries en route to a career-low four sacks while missing three games. He also missed six games in 2011. As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes, "all of his injuries have been in his legs and usually involve muscles." Woodley is one of the league's better power rushers when healthy, but he won't maximize his potential until he becomes more durable.

Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley (ankle) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

It will be Woodley's first game since he sprained his ankle in the first quarter of the Week 12 loss to the Browns. The 2009 Pro Bowler has just four sacks and 29 tackles in 10 games so far this season.

Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 14.

This is the second consecutive missed game for Woodley. Jason Worilds started for Woodley and played every defensive snap in last week's win over the Ravens. He'll start again this Sunday against the Chargers.

Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley (ankle) is considered doubtful for Week 13.

Woodley sprained his ankle in the first quarter of last week's loss to the Browns. Look for Jason Worilds to draw the start opposite Lawrence Timmons against the Ravens this week. He had four tackles, two sacks and one pass breakup in a relief role last week.

A source tells ProFootballTalk.com that LaMarr Woodley's ankle injury is not believed to be serious.

Woodley appeared to simply roll his ankle in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Browns. After briefly getting back in the game, he shut it down for the day and watched the rest of the game from the sideline. Backup Jason Worilds finished with four tackles, two sacks and one pass breakup.

Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley left Sunday's Week 12 game against the Browns with an ankle injury.

Woodley went down in the first quarter and hobbled off. After getting his ankle taped up, he tried to come back in but was too gimpy. Woodley is officially questionable to return. Jason Worilds has come on.

Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) will return for Sunday's game against the Bengals.

The strain that knocked Woodley out of last Thursday's loss to the Titans was mild. He'll start Sunday for a Steelers defense badly in need of a jolt. They're giving up 23.0 points per game this season, 18th in the league.
Tue, Oct 16, 2012 12:41:00 PM

The Steelers have officially ruled OLB LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) and SS Troy Polamalu (calf) out for Week 6.

It's two big, but expected, blows for the Steelers. It would be a concern against any other team than the Titans, who will be starting a seemingly finished Matt Hasselbeck Thursday, and have been out-scored 181-88 en route to a 1-4 record. Both Woodley and Polamalu should be ready for Week 7.
Wed, Oct 10, 2012 01:07:00 PM

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed OLB LaMarr Woodley's hamstring injury is "mild," but hinted he's unlikely to suit up for Thursday's game.

The Steelers aren't ruling Woodley out for Week 6, but the short week looks like it will kill any chance he has of not missing time. Jason Worilds will likely see increased snaps against the Titans. Woodley should be ready for Pittsburgh's Week 7 trip to Cincinnati.
