The Steelers recently worked out free agents OLB Ikaika Alama-Francis and TE Tory Humphrey.

Alama-Francis and Humphrey are good "emergency list" candidates for the regular season, as neither is likely to begin Week 1 on a roster. Alama-Francis was a Matt Millen second-rounder in Detroit. He's no more than a special teamer.

The illness that has kept OLB Ikaika Alama-Francis out of the first three games has caused him to lost 15-20 pounds.

Alama-Francis practiced all last week but was scratched because he's not in correct physical condition. He's been eating everything in sight recently to get the weight back on, but the damage has been done. Rookie Koa Misi is starting and Alama-Francis will fill a mere run-stopping role upon his return.

Dolphins OLB Ikaika Alama-Francis was unable to suit up in Week 1 because of an illness.

Alama-Francis traveled with the team and was ready to play but had to be scratched 90 minutes before kickoff. He had held off rookie Koa Misi for a starting job but watched Misi replace him and notch four tackles and a sack. Alama-Francis should be fine for Week 2.

Dolphins declared OLB Ikaika Alama-Francis, third QB Tyler Thigpen, WR Robert Wallace, ILB Channing Crowder, DE Robert Rose, OL Jeremy Parnell, OT Lydon Murtha and DE Clifton Geathers inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills.

Rookie Koa Misi gets the start ahead of Ikaika Alama-Francis, who may be sick. It's unlikely the Dolphins would sit an edge run-stopper like Alama-Francis out against C.J. Spiller if he was healthy. Clifton Smith is active and is expected to return kicks, contrary to an earlier report. Chad Pennington is the No. 2 QB ahead of Thigpen.

Ikaika Alama-Francis appears to have supplanted rookie Koa Misi as the Dolphins' starting outside linebacker opposite Cam Wake.

Alama-Francis will work on early downs as the superior run defender, with Misi replacing him in passing situations as the better blitzer. The Fins' run defense will remain stout this season, and they'll generate plenty of sacks with Wake primed to break out. Wake was unblockable in the preseason.

Dolphins OLB Ikaika Alama-Francis began sharing first-team reps with rookie Koa Misi in Sunday's practice.

Coach Tony Sparano calls Alama-Francis "a handful in the rush," but this says more about Misi's lack of progress than Alama-Francis' impressive play. The Dolphins want the second-rounder to take the job, and he hasn't yet.

Dolphins signed OLB Ikaika Alama-Francis to a one-year extension through 2011.

He's receiving minimum base salaries, but the Fins have been impressed with "IAF"'s ability to set the edge as a strong-side, outside linebacker. The 58th overall pick in the 2007 draft, Alama-Francis was a bust for three years as a defensive end in Detroit, but is expected to be a second-team linebacker in Miami. He's competing with projected starter Koa Misi for snaps.

The Dolphins are converting Ikaika Alama-Francis from defensive end to strong-side outside linebacker.

Alama-Francis has dropped 15 pounds, bringing him down to 275 pounds on his 6'5 frame. The Bengals are trying the same move with a similarly sized Michael Johnson, but he has more talent. Coach Tony Sparano concedes that Alama-Francis is "not a finished project by any stretch of the imagination."

Dolphins signed DE Ikaika Alama-Francis, formerly of the Lions.

Miami needed depth at defensive tackle with Randy Starks and Tony McDaniel set to see time at nose tackle after Jason Ferguson's season-ending torn quadriceps muscle. Alama-Francis was raw coming out of Hawaii but is a worthwhile project for the Dolphins.

Lions waived DL Ikaika Alama-Francis.

The Lions drafted horribly under Rod Marinelli, although we prefer to blame it on ex-GM Matt Millen. Despite being extremely raw out of Hawaii, IAF was the 58th overall pick in 2007. The 24-year-old will get another shot elsewhere, but bounced between positions in Detroit and provided little production.

Ikaika Alama-Francis reportedly showed "significant improvement" this offseason and is expected to play a lot at the Lions' left end spot in 2008.

Alama-Francis, one of the Lions' two second-round picks last year, has more upside than any end on the roster. He should be potent against the run due to his large frame, but whether IAF can get to QBs remains to be seen.

Ikaika Alama-Francis is a candidate to be the Lions' starting left defensive end this season.

The 6'5/280-pound Francis was a second-round pick in 2007, but that was basically used as a redshirt year. He'll battle Jared DeVries at the position.

Lions signed second-round DL Ikaika Alama-Francis to a four-year deal.

The Hawaii product is considered a player with uncanny potential. Francis is penciled in as Dewayne White's top backup at left defensive end, but could also see time at under tackle if Shaun Cody continues to underachieve.

Lions second-round pick Ikaika Alama-Francis is expected to back up Dewayne White at left defensive end as a rookie.

Francis was a right end in Hawaii’s 3-4 as a collegiate. The athletic freak may be an option on the other side if Kalimba Edwards blows his starting shot.
