Jets released S Gerald Alexander.
Alexander was on the street until October of last year when the Dolphins picked him up for two games. Then the Jets added him for mere depth. Alexander is only 27, but there are major talent concerns here. Wed, Mar 14, 2012 05:51:00 PM

Jets signed S Gerald Alexander.

Alexander played two games with the Dolphins this season before being waived in early November. He'll add depth behind Brodney Pool in three-safety sets with Jim Leonhard (knee) out for the season.

Dolphins waived S Gerald Alexander.

Alexander was signed two weeks to add depth with Reshad Jones (knee) and Chris Clemons (hamstring) banged up. Both players are healthy now, leaving Alexander as more of a luxury than necessity.

Dolphins re-signed S Gerald Alexander.

Alexander was released at final cuts after a four-day stint in Dolphins camp. He's made 30 career starts, but has proven a fringe NFL talent. Ex-Lions GM Matt Millen selected Alexander in the second round of the 2007 draft.

Dolphins waived S Gerald Alexander and WR John Matthews.

Both players were signed late in camp, which didn't help their chances. A former second-round pick out of Boise State, Alexander was originally drafted by the Matt Millen-run Lions. Needless to say, he's been a disappointment.

Dolphins signed S Gerald Alexander, formerly of the Jaguars.

A 10-game starter in 2009, Alexander was out of the league for the majority of last season. He won't be guaranteed a roster spot in Miami.

Panthers signed S Gerald Alexander, formerly of the Jaguars.

Carolina needs depth with Jordan Pugh nursing a hamstring injury and Marcus Hudson already sidelined. Alexander will contribute as a reserve safety and special teamer.

Jaguars released S Gerald Alexander.

Alexander's release is likely a sign that Sean Considine is ready to return from his hamstring injury. Alexander was brought back three weeks ago when Considine went down. The Jags' secondary remains a hot mess regardless.

Jaguars re-signed S Gerald Alexander and released TE Ernest Wilford.

Alexander, 26, started ten games for the Jags last season and is needed again with FS Anthony Smith slow to recover from a foot injury. Wilford has played in two games, catching just one pass for three yards.

In addition to KR Clifton Smith, the Packers also worked out free agent S Gerald Alexander on Tuesday.

The Packers have depth issues at safety with Atari Bigby (ankle) starting the season on the PUP list. They may simply be updating their in-season call list while hosting several free agents this week.

Jaguars released S Gerald Alexander, CB Scott Starks, RB Kolby Smith, LB Rod Wilson, and DL Jeremy Navarre.

With Alexander being released and Reggie Nelson traded, Sean Considine will presumably take over as the starting free safety. The Jaguars secondary will be one of the better fantasy matchups in the league.

In addition to CB Rashean Mathis (groin), the Jags may also be without MLB Justin Durant (concussion) and SS Gerald Alexander (shoulder) in Week 11.

The Bills offense may have a fighting chance this week even with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. The Jags are talking about playing Reggie Nelson at corner again, which would be great news for Lee Evans in a highly favorable matchup.

Jaguars declared S Gerald Alexander, WR Tiquan Underwood, DB Courtney Greene, LB Adam Seward, DL Derek Landri, OL Maurice Wiliams, TE Ernest Wilford and LB Greg Peterson inactive for Week 10 against the Jets.

Alexander briefly overtook Sean Considine as the starting strong safety, but the Jaguars have reversed that switch. Maurice Jones-Drew (knee) is active, as expected.

Gerald Alexander has officially taken over for Sean Considine as the Jaguars starting strong safety.

Think Lions wish they had Alexander back instead of a few weeks of Dennis Northcutt? Starting in place of Considine in Week 4, Alexander had an interception, a fumble recovery, and brought added physicality to the position.

With Sean Considine banged up, the Jaguars started Gerald Alexander at strong safety in Week 4 against Tennessee and he responded with five tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception.

Jags.com writer Vic Ketchman called it, "the best safety play I’ve seen the Jaguars get since I can’t remember." Alexander is a much more physically imposing presence than Considine and may hang onto the job going forward.
