Dolphins signed CB Jonathan Wade.

Failing to impress in Bengals camp this summer, Wade was out of the league for the first two months of the season. He'll add veteran depth in Miami with Vontae Davis once again battling a hamstring injury.

Bengals waived or released CB Jonathan Wade, QB Dan LeFevour, CB Rico Murray, TE John Nalbone, DT Jason Shirley, FB James Develin, CB David Pender, DE James Ruffin, WR Calvin Russell, DT Cornell Banks, RB John Griffin, CB Korey Lindsey, OT Matthew O’Donnell, OG Chris Riley and K Thomas Weber.

Wade's release comes as a surprise after Pacman Jones was placed on the reserve/PUP list with a neck injury on Saturday. Kelly Jennings is now the Bengals' unquestioned nickel back heading into Week 1.

Jonathan Wade started opposite Leon Hall at cornerback Thursday and more than held his own against the Jets.

Wade was left to handle Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes in man coverage, and Mark Sanchez tried to attack him several times. "Wouldn't you?" asked Wade. "I was at home a couple of days ago. I would have picked on me, too."

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer predicts that Jonathan Wade will be the Bengals' starting cornerback opposite Leon Hall on Thanksgiving.

It's a nightmare situation in the Bungles' back end. Reedy also predicts that Reggie Nelson and Nedu Ndukwe will get the nods at safety, and neither was a starter last week. SS Roy Williams (concussion) is out, and FS Chris Crocker (torn knee ligament) is on injured reserve. It's hard to imagine the Bengals stopping Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards on Thursday.

Bengals signed CB Jonathan Wade, formerly of the Lions.

Wade began the season as a stater in Detroit, but was among the most burnable cornerbacks in football before getting his walking papers earlier this month. The Bengals will hope he doesn't have to play much defense.

Lions waived CB Jonathan Wade.

Wade began the season as a starter and had still been handling nickelback duties as of two weeks ago. Beat writer Tom Kowalski suggests Wade has been beaten of late due to lost confidence.

Jonathan Wade has taken over nickel-back duties from Nathan Vasher.

Wade lost his starting job to successful reclamation project Alphonso Smith three weeks ago. The Lions are still a creampuff run defense, but the pass defense is showing incremental improvement this season.

Lions CB Jonathan Wade was benched in favor of Alphonso Smith in the team's Week 4 loss to Green Bay.

Smith came up with a big second-half interception, and had looked rejuvenated by his move from Denver even before this game. It could be his job to lose at this point. Wade has never been a starting-caliber cornerback.

Jonathan Wade and Chris Houston appear locked in as the Lions' starting corner duo.

Houston came over from the Falcons in exchange for a sixth-round pick, and Wade wasn't brought back by the Rams as an easy-to-retain restricted free agent. Yikes. The Lions added a lot of quantity to their secondary in the offseason, but not quality. They'll struggle badly against the pass again.

Jonathan Wade ended OTA season running with the Lions' first-team defense at cornerback.

Wade was a major liability in three years as a Ram, so the Lions hope 66th overall pick Amari Spievey wins the job. Chris Houston appears to be locked in on the other side. Spievey reportedly earned "a little more confidence" from the coaching staff at the end of OTAs, but still has "a long way to go."

Coach Jim Schwartz calls CB Jonathan Wade the team's most consistent cornerback this offseason.

Wade continues to run as the starter opposite Chris Houston, but he's also been pushed into the nickel role at times. Rookie Amari Spievey is starting to come on strong after dealing with hip flexors and hamstring injuries early in OTAs.

Jonathan Wade has been lining up with the first-team defense opposite Chris Houston in this week's practices.

The Lions are high on physical third-round press corner Amari Spievey, but he's just getting back to speed after suffering from hip flexors two weeks ago. Considering Wade's lackluster play with the Rams, the coaches have to be hoping Spievey wins the job outright in training camp.

Lions agreed to terms with CB Jonathan Wade, formerly of the Rams.

Wade, 26, offers speed and potential, but never came close to fulfilling it as a former third-round pick by St. Louis. He picked off just three passes in 47 games with the Rams and was buried on the depth chart late in 2009.

The Lions will host free agent CB Jonathan Wade on Monday.

The second wave of free agency has begun. St. Louis failed to tender Wade last week after three seasons of slow development. Wade would fit the Lions' profile, though, as a press cornerback (theoretically) with speed to burn.
