The Patriots worked out free agent WR Johnnie Lee Higgins during the week.
It's the first we've heard of Higgins since he was among the Eagles' final cuts in September. With the Pats set at receiver for the postseason, it's likely they were only evaluating Higgins as a possible "emergency list" name. Higgins made just 10 catches for 103 yards in 13 games for the Raiders in 2010. If he has an NFL future, it's on special teams. Sat, Jan 7, 2012 11:24:00 AM

Eagles released or waived WR Johnnie Lee Higgins, S Jamar Adams, RB Eldra Buckley, OT Austin Howard, S Marlin Jackson, LB Greg Lloyd and OT Fenuki Tupou.

It was thought Higgins had secured a spot in the Eagles' receiver corps after Sinorice Moss was cut loose earlier in the day, but that is not the case. The four-year veteran hauled in just 10 catches for 103 yards in 13 games with the Raiders last season. He should be able to land elsewhere as a special teamer.

Johnnie Lee Higgins is expected to return kickoffs and punts for the Eagles, "if all goes according to plan."

We have to believe DeSean Jackson will still return punts in key situations. With Higgins bound for the fifth receiver spot, Sinorice Moss and Chad Hall are now on the outside looking in.

Philly.com's Sheil Kapadia expects the Eagles' fifth receiving spot to come down to Johnnie Lee Higgins and Sinorice Moss.

Higgins has lost some of his explosiveness in recent seasons, while Moss didn't play a single snap last year after undergoing sports hernia surgery in August. Waived in November, he went unclaimed. Reports out of Eagles camp have Moss bringing slightly more than Higgins to the table so far this summer, but it's doubtful either holds a particularly large edge on the other.

Eagles agreed to terms with WR/KR Johnnie Lee Higgins on a one-year contract.

Once an explosive returner, Higgins has averaged just 7.2 and 5.2 yards on 51 punts over the past two seasons. This signing has the look of insurance against a protracted DeSean Jackson holdout.

The Oakland Raiders have declared OG Bruce Campbell, OG Daniel Loper, LB Bruce Davis, QB J.T. O'Sullivan, CB Jeremy Ware, WR Johnnie Lee Higgins, RB Michael Bennett, CB Walter McFadden inactive for Week 15.

O'Sullivan will serve as the Raiders' emergency QB. Nick Miller will handle punt returns for the injured Higgins. Otherwise, the Raiders are relatively healthy headed into their rivalry matchup against the Broncos.

Johnnie Lee Higgins started opposite Louis Murphy in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.

Higgins ended up with four catches for 37 yards on six targets. However, the real No. 2 receiver was Jacoby Ford, who racked up eight targets. Regardless, this passing offense won't consistently be able to support a No. 2 receiver. Along with Darrius Heyward-Bey, these guys belong on waivers.

Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune believes Johnnie Lee Higgins will serve as the Raiders' No. 3 receiver while Chaz Schilens (knee) is out.

The Raiders' starting receivers aren't pretty, and their reserves are downright ugly. Higgins will likely be in some kind of rotation with Yamon Figurs and rookie Jacoby Ford. None of the three will see many targets.

Raiders KR/WR Johnnie Lee Higgins is believed to be on the roster bubble heading into training camp.

Higgins was never the same as a receiver or returner after he got KO'd by an Eric Weddle hit early last season. He'll have to recapture his explosive 2008 form to hold off dynamic rookie Jacoby Fordy as the team's primary returner.

Raiders KR Johnnie Lee Higgins is reportedly "on notice" following the team's addition of Jacoby Ford.

Oakland traded up to draft Ford in the fourth round. "I’m looking for that guy to see if he’ll take the reins of our return game," said coach Tom Cable. "Those are the expectations (for Ford) early on." Higgins also offers little as a receiver. Ford has superior speed and projects as help in the slot.

Beat writer Jerry McDonald believes the Raiders coaches lost confidence in Johnnie Lee Higgins as a receiver last season.

Higgins seemed "gunshy for weeks" after taking a brutal hit from Chargers safety Eric Weddle early in the season. Higgins has had two years to establish himself as a receiver with the Raiders having little in front of him. He'll be no better than fourth on the depth chart entering training camp.

WR Johnnie Lee Higgins will start in place of rookie Darrius Heyward-Bey for the Raiders on Sunday.

DHB will likely miss the game with a foot injury. Higgins has 10 catches this season, one more than the first-rounder. Still, he isn't a good fantasy play against the Redskins' No. 5 pass defense.

Johnnie Lee Higgins caught four passes for 63 yards in Week 13 against the Steelers.

Higgins had two grabs in both halves after coming into the game with a total of 49 yards on six catches all season.

Raiders coach Tom Cable thinks that WR Johnnie Lee Higgins is tentative and not "turning it loose" following the shoulder injury he suffered in Week 1.

Higgins led the Raiders in receiving last year with a paltry 366 yards. The Raiders have committed to Louis Murphy and Darrius Heyward-Bey at all costs, leaving Higgins and Javon Walker as bystanders. This passing game is obviously a complete dead zone for fantasy purposes.

Raiders WR Johnnie Lee Higgins (shoulder) returned to practice on Thursday.

Last year's leading receiver has yet to catch a pass this season. He'll return punts against the Texans, but he won't be a fantasy factor.
