Panthers WR/KR Ryne Robinson is in danger of not making the team.

Robinson, the club's fourth-round pick in 2007, lost his punt return job to upstart rookie Captain Munnerlyn. Mike Goodson will return kicks. Robinson offers nothing as a receiver, so he likely won't be on the final 53.

Ryne Robinson is still the leading candidate to return punts and kicks for the Panthers this season.

Rookies Sherrod Martin, Captain Munnerlyn and Larry Beavers could battle for the job during training camp, but it's probably Robinson's to lose. He handled the duties for the Panthers in 2007 before hurting his knee last summer.

The Panthers will turn back to Ryne Robinson on returns following the loss of Mark Jones in free agency.

Robinson offers more homerun ability than Jones, will be cheaper, and should be 100% recovered from the MCL injury that cost him all of 2008. Still, he hasn't been a reliable pro and the NFL Draft could produce competition.

Panthers placed WR Ryne Robinson (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The team got tired of waiting for Robinson to make progress from his MCL injury and he wouldn't have offered much receiving value anyway. A fourth-round pick in 2007, Robinson hasn't made an impact in the league yet.

Panthers PR Ryne Robinson (knee) was moved from full participation back to limited after Thursday's practice.

He's going to have to prove himself in practice before regaining his punt returner role from Mark Jones.

Panthers PR Ryne Robinson (knee) fully participated in Thursday's practice and declared himself ready to play.

Robinson is getting back into football shape after being out two months, so he's unsure if the team will activate him for Sunday's game.

Panthers coach John Fox upgraded PR Ryne Robinson (knee) from "week to week" to "day to day."

Robinson had a limited practice on Wednesday and might play Sunday, but he's a safer bet to be back in Week 3. Mark Jones is currently on punt returns.

Panthers PR Ryne Robinson (knee) is not expected to be ready for Week 1.

Robinson sprained his MCL and PCL at the beginning of August. This could solidify Samie Parker's roster spot, although neither is an asset on offense.

Panthers PR Ryne Robinson's MRI revealed sprained MCL and PCL ligaments in his left knee.

That's typically a three- to four-week injury, so Robinson could be back in time for the season opener. The team is using receiver Jason Carter and cornerback Darren Toney on punt returns for now.

Panthers PR Ryne Robinson sprained his left knee and is listed as week-to-week.

GM Marty Hurney says the injury doesn't appear to be season ending. Robinson is Carolina's fifth receiver on top of his special teams role. If he missed time during the season, Chris Gamble could bring back punts.

Fourth-round rookie WR Ryne Robinson is making a name for himself in training camp.

"I'm anxious to watch him play," coach John Fox said. "He's got suddenness, he's got excellent hands." The Panthers are probably too deep at WR for Robinson to make a fantasy impact this season outside of deep dynasty leagues.

Panthers signed fourth-round WR Ryne Robinson to a four-year, $2.103 million contract. The deal includes a $438,305 signing bonus.

The Panthers hope Robinson, a quick but smallish Miami of Ohio product, will revive their return game so Steve Smith and Chris Gamble can focus on their respective duties. Robinson caught 90 passes as a senior Redhawk but doesn't project to develop into more than a slot receiver down the road.

Panthers selected Miami of Ohio WR Ryne Robinson with the No. 118 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Robinson (5-9/179) lacks premier speed but returned six kicks for touchdowns at Miami, where he played with current Viking Martin Nance and Ben Roethlisberger. Robinson caught 91 passes as a senior but will be counted on to return kicks and possibly punts as a rookie.
