Cardinals waived CB Fred Bennett, S Jared Campbell, OLB Will Davis, OLB Cyril Obiozor, P Ben Graham, CB Marshay Green, ILB Pago Togafau, CB Thad Turner, DE Kenny Iwebema, DT Ricky Lumpkin, DE Jeremy Navarre, LB Kendall Smith, and DB Bryant Nnabuife.
These are the Cardinals' defensive cuts; outside linebackers Joey Porter and Clark Haggans both appear safe despite their diminishing performance, salaries, and age. The Cards will apparently enter the season with just four corners: Patrick Peterson, A.J. Jefferson, Michael Adams, and Richard Marshall. Dave Zastudil has beaten out Graham for the punter job. Cardinals signed CB Fred Bennett, formerly of the Bengals.

New Arizona defensive coordinator Ray Horton prefers big, physical corners, and Bennett fits the bill at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds. The 27-year-old Bennett was released Saturday by Cincinnati. He's made 17 starts in four seasons.

Bengals released CB Fred Bennett.

A four-year veteran, Bennett has tallied 125 tackles and five interceptions in 48 career games. However, he was given extremely limited snaps in nine games between the Bengals and Chargers last season. With their third preseason game already in the books, the Bengals also waived QB Jordan Palmer, S Tom Nelson, CB LeRoy Vann, WR Jamere Holland and LB Stephen Franklin.

Bengals signed CB Fred Bennett.

Bennett played four games with the Chargers earlier this season and is coming off back-to-back disappointing years with the Texans. The Bengals need all the help they can get, though, having lost four defensive backs to injury Sunday.

The Eagles will work out free agent CBs Fred Bennett and Joe Burnett Tuesday.

The Eagles will not sign either player, as they're just kicking the tires on them. Ellis Hobbs has an undisclosed health issue, but it's not expected to be serious.

Chargers waived CB Fred Bennett and activated LT Marcus McNeill from the Roster Exempt list.

McNeill will retake his starting job Sunday at St. Louis. Bennett, plucked off waivers in August, had just one tackle in four appearances for the Bolts.

Chargers claimed CB Fred Bennett off waivers from the Texans.

We're not sure Bennett has any confidence left after two down years, but he's at least a worthwhile pickup for a corner-needy team in terms of talent. Only 26 and well built at 6'1/201 with 4.46 wheels, Bennett doesn't lack a starting-caliber skill set. It'll be interesting to see if he makes the final cut.

Texans waived CB Fred Bennett, DE Pannel Egboh, and WR London Crawford.

They're down to 77 players, and will have to waive two more to get to the 75-man limit by Monday. Bennett was a 14-game starter during the 2007 and 2008 seasons and is only 26 years old. He might generate interest on waivers.

Fred Bennett is squarely on the roster bubble, according to Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle.

Bennett started three games last season, but the fourth-year man isn't even being considered for a starting gig this year. He'll have to make up ground on backups like Jacques Reeves and Antwaun Molden to make the team.

Texans CB Fred Bennett retook his starting job from DeMarcus "Petey" Faggins in Week 10 and made five tackles (all solo).

Bennett started the season badly and was benched, but it was only a matter of time before he'd return because of his talent. Faggins is now a dime back behind Jacques Reeves, Bennett, and nickel guy Dunta Robinson.

Texans CB Fred Bennett has fallen to fourth on the depth chart.

KC Joyner's favorite corner is behind Jacques Reeves, "Petey" Faggins, ahd Dunta Robinson. Bennett still has potential and was excellent as a rookie, but hasn't taken the next step and was burned repeatedly in the early going.

ESPN's "Football Scientist" K.C. Joyner says Texans CB Fred Bennett was the most effective cornerback in the league last year.

Joyner breaks down tapes of every NFL game, and he takes into account yardage on medium, deep, and long passes. Bennett didn't become a starter until Week 9, but he allowed just 4.7 yards per attempt on the season.

Rookie CB Fred Bennett will likely start at right cornerback for the Texans in Week 9.

Bennett replaced DeMarcus Faggins in the first quarter of Week 8's game and finished with two tackles. Faggins will likely be moved to nickel back, where it is thought he will excel. Meanwhile, reserve Jamar Fletcher had his appendix removed and will miss three weeks.

The Texans may be on the verge of replacing DeMarcus "Petey" Faggins with rookie Fred Bennett at right cornerback.

Bennett has good size and has been excellent in practice, while Faggins was the victim on several long pass plays through the first four games. The general belief is that Faggins could be an elite nickel corner for Houston.

Texans signed fourth-round CB Fred Bennett to a multi-year contract.

Bennett, the second of Houston's picks to sign, has a shot to play on nickel downs as an outside corner if he beats out Jamar Fletcher. Right CB DeMarcus "Petey" Faggins could then move inside to cover the slot receiver.
