Jaguars waived RB Kolby Smith.
Smith was signed for preseason depth with Deji Karim sidelined by a thumb injury. The 25-year-old offers no playmaking ability after two straight injury-plagued seasons. The Jags are set to enter the season with FB Greg Jones as the third runner behind Maurice Jones-Drew and Rashad Jennings. Fri, Sep 3, 2010 02:16:00 PM

Jaguars signed RB Kolby Smith.

This is perhaps an indication that Deji Karim's thumb injury could keep him out of action for more than just a week. Smith has lost all semblance of explosion and leg drive. He won't make the Jaguars roster unless Karim is seriously injured.

Broncos waived RB Kolby Smith.

Smith was taking first-team reps as recently as Tuesday, but that was due to injuries and the Broncos were smart to cut ties now. He's just not an NFL-caliber talent. Smith shouldn't have any difficulty clearing waivers.

Broncos claimed RB Kolby Smith off waivers from the Chiefs.

Smith has been limited to just 11 games over the past two seasons due to knee and ankle injuries. Already lacking burst, his per-carry average has dropped from 3.6 to 2.66 in those 11 contests. He could battle another injury-prone back, J.J. Arrington, for the third running back spot, but there's no fantasy potential here.

Chiefs waived RB Kolby Smith.

Smith, 25, has shown marginal ability and dealt with numerous injuries in his three-year career. Used far more often than the Chiefs would've preferred since he was drafted in 2007, Smith won't be an attractive waiver claim.

Kolby Smith will have to fend off competition to keep the Chiefs' No. 3 running back job this year.

As he should. Smith is an injury-prone plodder with a career 3.3 YPC average. If the Chiefs opt to keep a traditional back in the No. 3 role, Javarris Williams, Jackie Battle, and Kestahn Moore will push Smith for the job.

Chiefs re-signed restricted free agent RB Kolby Smith.

Smith, 25, holds a career yards-per-carry average of 3.3, is extremely injury prone, and doesn't make anyone miss. The Chiefs would be far better off with a more reliable and skilled backup for Jamaal Charles going forward.

Chiefs placed RB Kolby Smith (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Jamaal Charles will close out 2009 as Kansas City's every-down back. Smith, who was injury prone at Louisville, has battled an assortment of knee and ankle injuries in his three years as a pro and holds a career YPC average of 3.3. He's certainly not a lock to make the Chiefs' roster next season.

Chiefs backup RB Kolby Smith is in danger of missing the rest of the season with his ankle injury.

It would be a nice boost for Jamaal Charles' value, ensuring that he remains the primary goal-line back going forward. It would also put Smith's Kansas City career in jeopardy, as the Chiefs will look to upgrade on a committee partner or at least a high quality backup for Charles in the offseason.

Chiefs RB Kolby Smith (ankle) has been formally ruled out for Week 13.

Smith was posing little threat to Jamaal Charles' workload in the first place, but this ensures that Charles will see any goal-line work against Denver. Chiefs No. 3 running back Dantrell Savage is also expected to be inactive.

Kolby Smith (ankle) has yet to practice this week for the Chiefs.

If Smith can't go Sunday, Dantrell Savage will act as Jamaal Charles' backup. He'll be lucky to see the ball more than two or three times regardless.

Kolby Smith rushed one time for one yard and caught one pass for five yards in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.

Smith is way behind starter Jamaal Charles, who is now an every-down back. Charles has been so impressive that it will probably take an injury to make Smith a factor.

Kolby Smith (ankle) is expected to be available for his normal duties in Week 12 against the Chargers.

Smith sprained his ankle in the Chiefs' Week 11 surprise win over the Steelers, but should be ready for change-of-pace work behind featured back Jamaal Charles. Smith is only Charles' "handcuff" in fantasy leagues.
Fri, Nov 27, 2009 12:14:00 PM

Kolby Smith, who left last week's game with an ankle injury, appeared to be going at full speed in Tuesday's practice.

Smith will likely play this week against the Chargers, but he's nothing more than a backup to Jamaal Charles at this point. Barring injury, expect Charles to dominate the backfield workload the rest of the way.
Tue, Nov 24, 2009 01:06:00 PM

Kolby Smith left Sunday's game against the Steelers with an ankle injury.

His return is questionable. Smith had just one carry for three yards before suffering the injury in the second quarter.
