Ex-Bills and Jets WR David Clowney is playing in the CFL this season.
Clowney hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since 2010, and couldn't make it past final cuts with the 2012 Bills. Clowney recently had a neck scare in a Montreal Alouettes preseason game, but was diagnosed with only a stinger. Clowney's CFL career is ready to move forward, but his NFL days are over. Bills released or waived WR David Clowney, WR Derek Session, TE Fendi Onobun, OL Jake Vermiglio, DE Sean Ferguson, DT Jay Ross, LB Danny Batten, CB Prince Miller and S Nick Sukay.

Clowney's 4.3 wheels aren't enough to keep his NFL career afloat. After spending the entire 2011 season out of the league, he failed to climb the muddled depth chart in Buffalo. The other notable cut here is Batten, a sixth-round pick of the Bills in 2010. He appeared in all 16 games last year, including four starts.

Bills WR David Clowney says he was recently clocked at 4.38 in the 40.

The Bills were looking for speed when they signed Clowney to a reserve/future contract last month, and he apparently still has plenty of it heading into his age-27 season. His problem has always been his hands, however. Clowney is a longshot to crack the Bills' 53-man roster after going unsigned in 2011.

Bills signed WR David Clowney to a reserve/future contract.

Clowney played in the ACC when Bills coach Chan Gailey was the head man at Georgia Tech. The 26-year-old speedster has 22 career catches for 341 yards.

Free agent WR David Clowney reportedly had a "strong" workout for the Titans Tuesday.

According to the Nashville Tennessean's John Glennon, the Titans have asked Clowney to "stay in town." Fellow free agent WRs Juaquin Iglesias and Donnie Avery will work out Wednesday. One of the three should take Kenny Britt's spot on the active roster by tomorrow evening.

Panthers released or waived WR David Clowney, SS Kevin Payne, DE Thomas Keiser, and OL Bryant Browning.

A deep threat with bad hands, Clowney's biggest NFL impact has been on special teams. He lost his roster spot when the Panthers picked up Seyi Ajirotutu Sunday. Payne spent last year out of football while rehabbing a preseason knee injury.

Newly signed WR David Clowney said he got a lot of reps with the ones and twos in Wednesday's practice.

The fact that Clowney may have a real role this week speaks to the horrific state of the Panthers' receiving corps. Clowney couldn't even make the Jets as a special teamer/situational deep threat, but he's being counted on in Carolina. Unimpressive rookies Brandon LaFell and David Gettis remain the likely starters.

Panthers claimed WR David Clowney off waivers from the Jets.

Clowney takes the roster spot vacated by Dwayne Jarrett's release, adding depth with Steve Smith (high ankle sprain) unlikely to play this week. Clowney has always possessed intriguing deep speed, but he's not going to be taking the top off of defenses with Jimmy Clausen at quarterback. He's not a fantasy option.

Jets waived WR David Clowney.

Clowney goes to make room for Santonio Holmes, who comes off suspension today. The special teamer and situational deep threat Clowney should at least get some tryouts on the open market.

Jets re-signed WR David Clowney.

The coaching staff has apparently decided against Laveranues Coles after all. Clowney is a better use of a roster spot as a true deep threat who can also pitch in on special teams. He won't have fantasy value as the Jets' No. 4 receiver.

Free agent WR David Clowney is apparently headed to Kansas City for at least a tryout, according to his Twitter account.

"God is so good," Clowney wrote. "8am Flight to Kansas City." With Jerheme Urban (finger) done for the year, the Chiefs could certainly use a backup receiver that plays special teams like Clowney.

Jets waived WR David Clowney.

As made apparent on Hard Knocks, Clowney was unable to star in the preseason offensively as he usually has in his career. Improved special teams play wasn't enough. Clowney does not have practice squad eligibility.
Sun, Sep 5, 2010 03:35:00 PM

Jets re-signed exclusive rights free agent WR David Clowney.

A burner with the potential to stretch the field, Clowney hasn't been able to translate his preseason success into a steady role with the Jets. He'll remain a situational deep threat behind Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery.

David Clowney (ankle) is expected to play Sunday against Miami despite being listed as questionable on the injury report and "limited" in Friday's practice.

Clowney will resume his situational deep threat role, playing only in three-wide receiver sets, with Jerricho Cotchery back in the starting lineup.

Jets coach Rex Ryan suggested that deep threat David Clowney has earned a regular role in the Jets passing offense.

"I don't think that's going to happen anymore," Ryan said of Clowney being excluded early in the season. "I think there's a lot of trust now ... David is getting the mental part down." Clowney can help Mark Sanchez stretch the field, but his fantasy value is limited by the presence of Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery.
