The Lions recently worked out free agent K Justin Medlock.
Medlock, 29, spent the first 11 weeks of last season with the Panthers before getting the ax. He made 7-of-10 field goals over that span. Medlock has been toiling around the league for six years, and the Lions need a kicker after Jason Hanson announced his retirement on Thursday. Thu, Apr 4, 2013 04:24:00 PM

Panthers waived K Justin Medlock.

Medlock has missed his last three field goals after nailing his first seven. The former CFL star wasn't much of an asset on kickoffs, either. Medlock ranked just 31st in fantasy points through 11 weeks.

According to beat writer Steve Reed, the Panthers are "sold" on K Justin Medlock after releasing veteran Olindo Mare.

In other words, don't look for Neil Rackers or Billy Cundiff to land in Carolina. Medlock has played just one NFL game since the Chiefs drafted him in the fifth round back in 2007, but he's been one of the premier kickers in Canada. He has a shot at top-10 fantasy numbers in the Panthers' high-scoring offense.

Panthers signed K Justin Medlock to a three-year contract.

A 2007 fifth-round pick by the Chiefs, Medlock drilled 49-of-55 field goal attempts as an All-Star in the CFL last season. The cap-strapped Panthers are now carrying Medlock and Adi Kunalic behind high-dollar starter Olindo Mare, who came under fire for critical misses last season.

Lions waived K Justin Medlock and OG Kurt Quarterman.

Medlock couldn't even make it to camp as a practice leg for 40-year-old Jason Hanson, which is a bad sign. Quarterman went to college at Louisville.

Lions claimed K Justin Medlock off waivers from the Redskins.

It doesn't bode well for Medlock's chances of kicking in the NFL this year that he didn't even last until training camp with the Redskins. He'll spell Jason Hanson during Lions camp drills this summer.

Redskins waived K Justin Medlock and OL Paul Fanaika.

Medlock was an outstanding college kicker at UCLA and has the requisite skill set to be effective in the pros, but he's always seemed to be short on confidence. Graham Gano now appears to be poised to start for Washington.

Redskins signed K Justin Medlock, formerly of the Toronto Argonauts.

He'll battle Graham Gano this spring. Medlock, a fifth-round pick in 2007, has the physical skills to be a long-term NFL starter and hit 40-of-46 field goals for the Argos last year. Uneven confidence has long been his fatal flaw.

Toronto Argonauts K Justin Medlock recently worked out for the Falcons and Texans.

Medlock failed to impress the Chiefs and Rams in earlier stints, but he's drawing NFL interest after nailing 40 of 46 field goals with Toronto. The Texans also worked out journeyman Dave Rayner, signaling that Kris Brown will have competition for his job after an abysmal 2009 season.

Rams released K Justin Medlock, RB Lavarus Giles and WR Shaine Smith.

Medlock has been a bust after the Chiefs took him in the fifth round of last year's draft.

The Rams have given K Justin Medlock permission to seek a trade.

No one is going to give up anything for Medlock, who will be cut this summer at the latest. He's buried behind Josh Brown, the NFL's highest paid kicker.

Rams signed K Justin Medlock, formerly of the Chiefs.

There's been speculation that Jeff Wilkins might retire this offseason. Medlock was highly accurate at UCLA, but washed out of Chiefs camp last year after being a fifth-round pick. He's worth a shot as an offseason body.

Chiefs waived K Justin Medlock.

The fifth-round pick looked to have a bright future coming in afer a highly accurate career at UCLA, but he lacked confidence with Kansas City.

Chiefs rookie K Justin Medlock made a 27-yard field goal in Week 1.

That's the good news for the fifth-round pick. He also missed a 30-yarder. The Chiefs have been auditioning kickers, and that will continue until Medlock either steps-up or loses his job.

The Chiefs brought in six kickers for a workout Monday, taking looks at John Carney, Josh Huston, Shane Andrus, Nick Novak, Kevin Lovell and Conner Hughes.

There was an amusing scene in HBO's Hard Knocks where coach Herm Edwards tried to convince the special-teams coach that rookie Justin Medlock had the job secured, but the fifth-round pick struggled throughout camp. He figures to start in Week 1, but will have to kick well to keep the job beyond that.
