The Chiefs worked out free agent TE Ben Patrick Tuesday.
Patrick ended a brief retirement earlier this month. A competent blocker who also has 45 catches in 42 career games, Patrick could be a nice addition for the Chiefs if he can pass his physical. He has been injury prone since entering the league in 2007, however. Tue, Sep 27, 2011 11:02:00 PM

Reinstated by the NFL this week, TE Ben Patrick has officially ended his brief retirement.

The 27-year-old's sudden retirement early in training camp was to take care of "some personal issues and family issues." The Giants have released Patrick's rights. He admits he'll be "kind of starting over" while waiting for a team to call. As long as he's in shape, Patrick should get an opportunity as an injury fill-in this season.

Former Giants TE Ben Patrick says he abruptly retired on Saturday to attend to "some personal issues and family issues."

He also hinted his retirement is not permanent. "Right now, I’m just sorting through some things and figuring out my next move," he said. "Hopefully, I’ll be able to return (to the NFL) sooner rather than later." A seventh-round pick in 2007, there's no guarantee Patrick will be able to find a job whenever he decides to return after passing up an almost certain roster spot with the Giants.

Giants TE Ben Patrick has decided to retire.

This comes as a surprise. Patrick will turn 27 years old later this month, and he was all but assured of a roster spot after Kevin Boss signed with the Raiders. He's the second player to walk away from Giants after OL Herman Johnson did the same a few days back. Patrick finishes his four-year career with 45 receptions, 446 yards, and four TDs.

Giants agreed to terms with TE Ben Patrick on a one-year contract.

With an average of just 11.3 receptions per year since entering the league in 2007, Patrick is not a realistic option to replace Kevin Boss as the starter. The tight end market is finally bring some drama, though, as Boss could end up in Oakland if the Seahawks steal Zach Miller away. The Giants have an offer out to Boss, who has been hesitant to accept.

Free agent TE Ben Patrick is scheduled to visit the Giants in the next day or so.

The Giants want to re-sign Kevin Boss and the interest in mutual, but the two sides are "stuck in a contract standoff." Patrick isn't a realistic fallback option. He's been injury prone and not nearly the receiver that Boss has been.

The Cardinals declined tenders to TEs Ben Patrick and Stephen Spach, and DE Kenny Iwebema, making them unrestricted free agents.

Patrick is incredibly injury prone and has never developed into much of a receiving threat. Spach was a coaching staff favorite, but also adds little in the pass game. Iwebema is coming off a torn ACL with meniscus damage.

Cardinals TE Ben Patrick (knee) returned to practice Monday.

Patrick is expected to get his first taste of preseason action on Thursday. He'll be the Cardinals' starter at tight end come Week 1 but a non-factor in the passing game. Stephen Spach will return to a reserve role.

Patrick will likely take it easy for the next couple of weeks, but is probably in no danger of losing his starting gig.

The MRI on Ben Patrick's left knee revealed no damage to his ACL or PCL, a source tells Adam Caplan.

Patrick and the Cardinals can breathe a sigh of relief. A mere sprain in the knee figures to have the starting tight end ready well before Week 1. There's no timetable for his return yet.

Cardinals TE Ben Patrick will undergo an MRI this morning on his sprained left knee.

Patrick and the Cards will be hoping the MRI reveals no torn ligaments. Although not a dominant pass catcher by any stretch of the imagination, Patrick qualifies as the Cardinals' best all-around tight end.

Cardinals re-signed restricted free agent TE Ben Patrick to a one-year, $1.684 million contract..

Patrick was tendered at the second-round level. Though he's developed into an above-average blocker, Patrick has yet to top 12 receptions in a season. He won't be a fantasy factor in 2010.

The Cardinals tendered restricted free agent TE Ben Patrick an offer at the second-round level.

He'll certainly be safe at that level. Though Patrick had just 12 receptions for 146 yards last season, he's developing into a fine run blocker as a well as an adequate pass blocker. He'll earn $1.684 million in 2010.

Cardinals TE Ben Patrick (head) returned to a full practice Thursday.

Patrick is finally over his mid-December concussion. He's the best bet among the Cardinals tight ends to haul in a goal-line pass, but that doesn't make him an acceptable fantasy option during the playoffs.
