The Raiders are working out free agent QB Tyler Thigpen on Tuesday.
Thigpen's tryout comes ahead of Seneca Wallace's, who will work out on Wednesday. The Raiders are intent on adding a veteran "mentor" for Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor, but would be better off giving the roster spot to someone who might actually play, or remain in Oakland beyond 2013. According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, "everything (points)" to the Seahawks signing free agent QB Tyler Thigpen.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Monday that Thigpen was on the "short list" to replace Matt Flynn, but it sounds like he's the only name on the list. Thigpen has attempted just 83 passes since 2008, but has experience with the read option, and will come exceedingly cheap. He turns 29 on April 14.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports free agent Tyler Thigpen is on the "short list" to back up Russell Wilson in Seattle.

The journeyman veteran has experience running the read-option, and would come on the cheap after backing up Ryan Fitzpatrick in Buffalo last season. Thigpen has attempted just 83 passes since starting 11 games for the Chiefs in 2008.

Tyler Thigpen will be the Bills' No. 2 quarterback in Week 1.

Tarvaris Jackson is eventually expected to be Ryan Fitzpatrick's backup, but he's only been with the team for nine days and has learned a fraction of the terminology.

Tyler Thigpen accepted a $1 million pay cut to stay with the Bills as a third-string quarterback.

It makes sense for both sides. Thigpen was previously due $2.5 million -- a sum he couldn't have come close to elsewhere -- while the Bills saved some salary cap space on a player still highly regarded by Chan Gailey. Thigpen will open the season behind Ryan Fitzpatrick and newly acquired Tarvaris Jackson.

Coach Chan Gailey acknowledged that Tyler Thigpen has fallen behind Vince Young in the race for Bills backup quarterback duties.

Young outperformed Thigpen in the second preseason game and has essentially locked up the No. 2 job, which may cost Thigpen his roster spot. "So you’d have to say Vince came out a little bit ahead tonight," Gailey said. Through two preseason contests, Young is 13-of-26 (50 percent) for 173 yards (6.7 YPA), and 37 yards on five runs. Thigpen is 11-of-23 (47.8 percent) for 94 yards (4.1 YPA) and two interceptions. So neither is setting the world on fire.

Tyler Thigpen was the second-string quarterback in Thursday's preseason opener.

Thigpen is locked in a battle with Vince Young for the backup job behind Vince Young. He completed 3-of-8 passes for 38 yards and an interception while Young went 5-of-12 for 50 yards and took three sacks. Neither player looks ready to run this offense if called upon.

WGR 550's Joe Buscaglia reports it's been an "atrocious" start of training camp for Tyler Thigpen.

Vince Young has reportedly struggled picking up the Bills offense, and Thigpen hasn't done anything to establish himself as the clear-cut backup. Thigpen missed the majority of OTAs due to injury, so its less of a concern that he's not entirely up to speed.

Coach Chan Gailey called the backup quarterback battle the "stiffest competition" he saw during the Bills' offseason.

Incumbent Tyler Thigpen is set to tangle with Vince Young for the spot behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. "Tyler has the advantage of being here and being in the system. Vince has the advantage of playing in games and the experience," Gailey said. Thigpen has made just one start in the last three years.

Bills backup QB Tyler Thigpen told the team's website that he's missing OTAs due to a torn abdominal.

Thigpen described the tear as "small" and about "a centimeter" in size. While the injury clearly isn't significant, it has allowed Vince Young to take all of the second-team quarterback reps during OTAs. The Bills have an upcoming round of practices this week, and it doesn't sound like Thigpen will participate.

Coach Chan Gailey made it clear to Tyler Thigpen that he has no chance to unseat Ryan Fitzpatrick before the start of the season.

We've seen shaky reports to the contrary, so this is confirmation that Fitzpatrick's job is safe. "When I called Tyler I told him exactly the situation," said Gailey. "Ryan is the starter and there's no question about that. You can compete and work and see how close you can get and that'll be good, but Ryan is the starter." That is subject to change in-season if Fitzpatrick ends up tanking for a long stretch.

Bills agreed to terms with Tyler Thigpen on a three-year contract.

Thigpen is reunited with Chan Gailey, who coached him to a career season back in 2008 with the Chiefs. It's a perfect fit as Thigpen can run some of Gailey's spread offenses and serve as a decent insurance for unproven starter Ryan Fitzpatrick.

In addition to the Bills, free agent QB Tyler Thigpen is also interested in playing for the Vikings, Titans, Seahawks, and Cardinals.

It's hard to blame him. From his list, it's obvious that Thigpen wants to compete for a starting job in any locale without an established quarterback. We still believe the Bills are his best fit as Ryan Fitzpatrick insurance.

The Buffalo News agrees with a recent WGR 550 Buffalo report that free agent Tyler Thigpen is the "most obvious suspect" to be the Bills' backup quarterback this season.

Thigpen's best year came under Chan Gailey in 2008 when both were with the Chiefs, and he certainly has the athleticism the Bills are said to be looking for in a backup. This might make too much sense not to happen.

Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 in Buffalo considers free agent Tyler Thigpen the "odds-on favorite" to be the Bills' backup quarterback this season.

Thigpen wants out of Miami, and there is no better landing spot for him than Buffalo, where the 27-year-old has history with Chan Gailey. Gailey also runs variations of the Pistol Spread, the only scheme Thigpen has excelled in dating back to Coastal Carolina. The market for Thigpen is unclear, but we suspect he'd be willing to take a one- or two-year deal worth $2.5-$3 million annually.
