The National Football Post reports there has been "cursory contact" between the Saints and free agent WR Devery Henderson.
Henderson, 31, was released by the Redskins last week after reporting to camp out of shape. He's lost multiple steps as a deep threat. The Saints might be better off rolling with Steve Breaston and their younger receivers. Sun, Aug 18, 2013 11:04:00 AM

Coach Mike Shanahan said WR Devery Henderson came into training camp out of shape.

Henderson knew he'd be on the bubble, so it's really surprising he would show up huffing and puffing. Shanahan said he felt like he owed it to the veteran to tell him now that he had no chance to make the team. The Saints and other teams should tread lightly if they're going to kick the tires on Henderson.

Redskins released WR Devery Henderson.

Henderson, who signed a non-guaranteed one-year, $840K contract in June, was lagging behind Leonard Hankerson and Aldrick Robinson. Perhaps he'll get another shot with the Saints, who are desperate for a burner to run vertical clear-out routes after losing Joe Morgan. Henderson averaged 29.3 catches for 427.6 yards and scored four touchdowns in that role for New Orleans over the previous three seasons.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune believes WR Devery Henderson would be a "perfect fit" to replace Joe Morgan (knee) with the Saints if he can't make the Redskins' final roster.

Morgan suffered a torn meniscus and partially torn ACL, and he's done for the season. Henderson was the guy Morgan replaced as the situational deep threat in New Orleans. Henderson is currently the Redskins' No. 6 receiver, so he's on the outside looking in. He just doesn't have a whole lot left in the tank. The Saints would be better off with one of their younger wideouts.

Devery Henderson has reportedly been the Redskins' sixth-best wideout at camp.

Henderson is behind Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan, Santana Moss, Leonard Hankerson and Aldrick Robinson. Per the Washington Post, he "hasn't stood out." A mere straight-line speedster with no upside at age 31, Henderson is on the outside of the roster bubble heading into exhibition games.

Redskins signed WR Devery Henderson, formerly of the Saints.

The 'Skins added Henderson and Donte' Stallworth to the roster in an effort to add speed to their receiving corps. With neither player providing any help on special teams, it's safe to assume they're directly competing for a spot. The Redskins are suddenly crowded at wide receiver.

ESPN's John Clayton calls free agent Devery Henderson a "name to watch" for the 49ers.

Clayton may be speculating because he didn't cite a source. Henderson, at age 31, can still take the lid off of defenses with straight-line speed, but has never been a natural hands catcher and probably wouldn't help San Francisco's offense much. He's generated zero interest in free agency, for good reason.

ESPN's Pat Yasinskas does not expect the Saints to re-sign free agent WR Devery Henderson.

Henderson never quite lived up to his potential with the Saints, operating as a mere situational deep threat throughout his eight years with the club. Entering his age-31 season, he can expect a soft market. Henderson is our No. 31 free-agent wideout available this season.

Devery Henderson caught one pass for 16 yards in the Saints' Week 17 loss to the Panthers.

When Lance Moore missed Week 5 due to a hamstring injury, Henderson put 123 yards and a touchdown on the Chargers. In his other 15 games, he totaled 14 catches for 193 yards and no touchdowns. Henderson will likely be seeking a new home with a clearer path to playing time as he hits unrestricted free agency.

Devery Henderson caught just one pass for three yards in Week 11 against the Raiders.

Henderson was targeted just the one time on the day. He's so far down in the pecking order and isn't worthy of a fantasy roster spot.

Devery Henderson was held without a catch versus the Falcons in Week 10.

Henderson had the ball bounce off his out-stretched hands on a shot play and flat-out dropped his other target. With Jimmy Graham and Lance Moore back to full health, Henderson is no longer deserving of a roster spot in fantasy leagues.

Devery Henderson caught just one pass for eight yards in Week 9 against the Eagles.

Henderson saw just three targets on the night. He's no better than the fourth or fifth option in the passing game and is on pace for an 18/560/2 line at the season's midpoint. Henderson is no more than a WR4/5 in fantasy.

Devery Henderson was held without a catch in the Saints' Week 8 loss to the Broncos.

Henderson's doughnut came despite four targets. Although he combined for 11 catches and 198 yards in Weeks 5 and 7, there's no reason to believe Henderson will emerge as a consistent WR4/5 during his age-30 campaign.

Devery Henderson caught three passes for 75 yards against the Bucs in Week 7.

Henderson caught all three targets thrown his way on Sunday. His big catch was of the 40-yard variety where the Bucs had a miscommunication in coverage. Henderson is always going to be a big play threat, but he doesn't see enough passes his way to be more than a bye week fill-in option.

Devery Henderson caught eight passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in New Orleans' Week 5 win over the Chargers.

With Lance Moore out with a hamstring injury, Henderson stepped up for his first 100-yard game since last Week 2. He was a part of history on New Orleans' first scoring drive, where he got behind the entire Chargers secondary for a 40-yard touchdown. The score gave Drew Brees at least one touchdown in 48 consecutive games, a new NFL record. Regardless, the big night shouldn't be taken as a sign that Henderson can be trusted as a WR3/4 in fantasy leagues. He remains nothing more than a desperation fill-in option.
