49ers LE Ray McDonald was arrested Wednesday for an outstanding warrant stemming from his 2010 arrest for suspicion of DUI.
McDonald was pulled over for a traffic violation at 2AM Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Police learned of McDonald's old warrant upon inspection of his record, and released him from jail at 7AM. McDonald is the second 49er to be arrested in the last 12 days, joining OLB/DE Aldon Smith. A high-impact and underrated defender, McDonald had 2.5 sacks in San Francisco's NFC title game loss to the Giants after racking up 5.5 in the regular season. Wed, Feb 8, 2012 01:08:00 PM

49ers LE Ray McDonald (hamstring) played just 44-of-80 snaps in Saturday's win over the Saints.

McDonald normally plays just about every down, but he was hobbled by his latest hamstring strain. Backup Ricky Jean-Francois saw 36 snaps. McDonald was one of the best 3-4 defensive ends in football this season.

49ers LE Ray McDonald expects to be available for the Divisional Round of the playoffs after tweaking his hamstring in Week 17.

McDonald missed Week 9 with a hamstring injury, but otherwise started every game for the 49ers, notching 39 tackles, two forced fumbles, and 5.5 sacks. McDonald thrived under first-year coach Jim Harbaugh, grading out as the third best 3-4 defensive end by Pro Football Focus.

49ers DE Ray McDonald (hamstring) will be "evaluated throughout the week."

McDonald sat out the final two and a half quarters of Sunday's win over the Browns. He notched a sack before going down, and was replaced by Ricky Jean-Francois. McDonald's three sacks are good for fourth on the 49ers.

49ers DE Ray McDonald is done for the day with a hamstring injury.

The extent is unknown, but McDonald was out of his shoulder pads and replaced by rookie Demarcus Dobbs by the third quarter. McDonald has been dominant in his first season as a starter, so his loss could sting a tough 49ers defense.

49ers agreed to terms with DE Ray McDonald on a five-year, $20 million contract with $7 million guaranteed.

The new 49ers' coaching staff has deemed McDonald an ascending player at age 27 (in September), and he racked up a sturdy 31 quarterback pressures last season while playing in a rotation, mostly off the bench. New DC Vic Fangio plans to run a more up-tempo scheme up front, so McDonald will be an every-down player for the first time in his career. He'll be a candidate for 5-7 sacks.

Free agent DE Ray McDonald prefers to re-sign with the 49ers as long as he's elevated to a starter's role.

The Niners informed McDonald before the lockout that they want him back, presumably at left defensive end. As long as the offer is fair, McDonald is willing to sign before hitting in the open market in the event of an exclusive negotiating window.

Several GMs tell the Sports Xchange's Len Pasquerelli that DE Ray McDonald will get "surprisingly good play" on the free agent market this summer.

Just 26 years old, McDonald has flashed as an inside rusher in nickel packages the past few seasons. The Niners are expected to place a priority on signing McDonald, but he could receive interest as a three-technique tackle as well as a 3-4 end.

Free agent DE Ray McDonald is not interested in returning to the 49ers as a backup this summer.

"I know I'm an every-down player, a starter," McDonald said. "And that's what I'm looking to do this year. I'm not looking to back up anybody." Re-signing with San Fran remains a strong possibility, though. Isaac Sopoaga is projected to move inside to replace NT Aubrayo Franklin, leaving a vacancy at left end. McDonald can play end in a 3-4 or three-technique in a 4-3 scheme.

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco thinks the 49ers will make re-signing free agent DE Ray McDonald one of their top priorities this summer.

Maiocco believes McDonald will be the Niners' third biggest target after Alex Smith and C David Baas. McDonald has emerged as an above average inside rusher on passing downs, and the Niners could face some stiff competition for his services if he ends up an unrestricted free agent.

The 49ers are expected to "compete to keep" free agent DE Ray McDonald this summer.

McDonald is a four-year veteran, so there's a chance his free agency will end up restricted anyway. The 26-year-old graded out as a top-12 pass-rushing 3-4 end, according to Pro Football Focus. The Niners appreciate his value as an inside rusher on passing downs.
