Raiders agreed to terms with DE Andre Carter to a one-year contract.
Carter appeared in 12 games as a rotational pass-rushing specialist for the Raiders last year, recording just 19 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Now entering his age-34 season, there's little reason to expect a bounce-back campaign even if he ends up starting at right end. The Raiders badly need to add more to a pitiful pass rush that ranked 31st in the league in sacks a year ago. Apr 9 - 11:39 AM

Head coach Dennis Allen confirmed that Andre Carter will be active for Week 6 against the Falcons.

Carter was inactive in Week 4 after signing with Oakland, but he will be part of the rotation with Lamarr Houston and Matt Shaughnessy against Atlanta. The Raiders rank dead last in the league with just three sacks this season, so they badly need Carter to put some pressure on the quarterback.

The Raiders will reassess new DE Andre Carter's (quad) status after their Week 5 bye.

Carter was inactive for his Raiders debut Sunday, but apparently healthy enough to play. "He hasn't been in camp with anybody, so we just felt like the right thing to do was to give him this week (off)," coach Dennis Allen said. "We've got the bye week and then we'll evaluate where we are after that." The Raiders badly need Carter to goose a pass rush that's generated a pitiful three sacks.

Updating a previous item, DE Andre Carter signed injury waivers on his quad and back upon his signing with the Raiders on Wednesday.

Carter's quad is reportedly not quite back to 100 percent after tearing the muscle off of the bone in Week 14 last year. He hasn't dealt with any known back issues since the 2004 season, though. He'll likely be a part-time pass-rushing specialist as he starts out his Oakland tenure.

Raiders signed DE Andre Carter.

Carter's signing comes after two visits in the past month. Provided he's finally 100 percent recovered from the torn quad that prematurely ended his 2011 and limited him all offseason, Carter should help goose a pass rush that's generated only three sacks in three games. He'll likely start off in a part-time role. Carter notched 10 sacks in 14 games for the Patriots last season before going down.

Free agent DE Andre Carter is meeting with the Raiders Tuesday.

It's Carter's second visit with the Raiders in the last three weeks. As long as the pass-rusher proves he's over his torn quad, he won't lack for work much longer. The Patriots are reportedly still monitoring Carter closely.

Free agent DE Andre Carter (quad) worked out for the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Carter worked out for several teams in August, but word was spreading that he still lacked speed and explosion coming off a torn quadriceps muscle. He would be a situational pass rusher if he lands in Arizona.

Per the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, "word is" free agent DE Andre Carter still lacks speed and explosion coming off last year's torn quadriceps muscle.

Carter is "not close to being ready to play," according to Howe. The Raiders and Rams have shown interest in Carter in recent days, but neither team has signed him. At age 33, it's fair to wonder if Carter will regain his early-2011 form.

Free agent DE Andre Carter has scheduled a Wednesday visit with the Rams.

Carter worked out for the Raiders on Tuesday, and must finally be at or near 100 percent following a lengthy recovery from a torn quad. He'd provide a nice bit of veteran depth for the Rams' promising but young defensive line.

Free agent DE Andre Carter worked out for the Raiders on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old pass rusher is returning from surgery to repair a torn quadriceps. It was widely believed that Carter would end up re-signing in New England, but there's no longer a need following the emergence of rookie Chandler Jones.

Free agent DE Andre Carter told CSN New England this week that his torn quadriceps muscle will be fully healed for the 2012 season.

Carter says he's "still waiting" on a call from the Patriots, who have 89 of their 90 offseason roster spots filled. Carter also said he's "jumping, squatting, coming out of my stance, cutting. Making positive strides." The 33-year-old pass rusher revealed that he ran almost two miles on a beach on Wednesday.

Free agent DE Andre Carter (quad surgery) is seeking a long-term contract from the Patriots.

Carter made the Pro Bowl last season while working on a one-year deal. The problem is that he's now 33 and still rehabbing a major injury. The Patriots predictably want to bring the pass-rusher back on another "prove it" contract. According to the Boston Herald, Carter is a candidate for the PUP list anyway.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport agrees that free agent DE Andre Carter is likely to eventually re-sign with the Patriots.

Rapoport's speculation is especially informed because he's a former Boston Herald reporter. "I base this on common sense and what I know both sides want to happen," wrote Rapoport. For a player coming off double-digit sacks, Carter should be available for cheap because he's aging and returning from injury.

According to ESPN Boston, it "seems as though" free agent DE Andre Carter could soon re-sign with the Patriots.

CBS' Jason La Canfora recently passed along word that "many around the league" expect Carter to ultimately end up back in New England, and he's apparently in the final stages of his rehab from a torn quad. If Carter isn't under contract by camp, he should be soon after.

Free agent DE Andre Carter insists he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn quad muscle.

Carter has had a long road back after his quadriceps muscle "popped off the bone" in December, but he vows to be ready for training camp. According to Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com, many around the league expect Carter to end up back with the Patriots once he's healthy. "If it's New England, that would be awesome," said Carter.
