Bears released OL Mansfield Wrotto.
Wrotto hasn't sniffed the field since starting seven games at right tackle for the Bills back in 2010. The journeyman has a decent shot to latch on elsewhere thanks to his ability to play both tackle and guard. Thu, Jun 14, 2012 10:16:00 AM

Bears signed OL Mansfield Wrotto and promoted DT Jordan Miller from the practice squad.

Wrotto is a favorite of assistant GM Tim Ruskell, who drafted him in the fourth round for the Seahawks in 2007. Miller is an undrafted rookie out of Southern University in Louisiana.

GM Buddy Nix reiterated Tuesday that the Bills will seek an upgrade at offensive tackle this offseason.

"I think we need another tackle in some way," said Nix. "A guy that either as a rookie or if and when free agency starts" would be added. The organization still seems high on Demetrius Bell at left tackle, but there's a clear need at right tackle, where journeyman Mansfield Wrotto is penciled in.

Bills re-signed OT Mansfield Wrotto to a two-year contract.

Released by the Seahawks last September, Wrotto supplanted Cord Howard as the Bills' starting right tackle for the second-half of the season. Wrotto graded out as below average in Pro Football Focus' ratings, but it looks like the Bills see him as a placeholder until a better option comes along.

Bills RT Mansfield Wrotto has supplanted Cord Howard as the starter at right tackle.

Wrotto replaced Howard for a series in the first half and the entire second half in Week 9. "Cordaro's shoulder is just too weak right now to go play a whole ballgame," coach Chan Gailey said. Most of Wrotto's NFL experience is at guard, though he played tackle for Gailey when they were both at Georgia Tech.

Bills promoted OL Mansfield Wrotto from their practice squad.

The former Seahawk can play both guard and tackle, and is considered more game-ready than Jamon Meredith. Wrotto could wind up starting for Buffalo.

Seahawks released OL Mansfield Wrotto.

GM John Schneider has opted to go with reclamation projects from the Packers as reserves up front. With Russell Okung due back this week, Wrotto's versatility was no longer valued.

Seahawks re-signed OL Mansfield Wrotto.

Wrotto saw time at left tackle this summer before Russell Okung signed, but he's expected to provide depth at guard this week. RG Max Unger is in danger of missing Sunday's game at Denver, and Chester Pitts (knee) may not be ready to fill in.

With Russell Okung and Ray Willis both out, Mansfield Wrotto will start at LT in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.

Wrotto will be up against Jared Allen, though Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has no intention of sitting QB Matt Hasselback. "Matt is going to play into the second half," said Carroll. That's a pretty big burden on Wrotto's shoulders, so don't be surprised to see Carroll go back on his words after some early pressure by Allen.

Masfield Wrotto is now the Seahawks No. 2 left tackle with Ray Willis (knee surgery) sidelined.

Willis is only a backup, but it still bring back memories of the offensive line injuries that decimated the Seahawks' 2009 season. Wrotto has very little NFL experience as a tackle, although he played the position at Georgia Tech.

Seahawks agreed to terms with fourth-round OG Mansfield Wrotto on a four-year, $2.082 million contract. The deal includes a $417,000 signing bonus.

The Georgia Tech product will attempt to switch from tackle to guard in order to make it in the pros. The former defensive tackle switched to the offensive side of the ball prior to his senior season, so he’s accustomed to learning a new position.
