Bears signed G/C Manuel Ramirez, formerly of the Lions, to a one-year contract.
Ramirez, 33, appeared in all 16 games for the Lions last season, making seven starts before being benched. When benched, however, he was Detroit's No. 1 lineman at Pro Football Focus. He can play either guard spot or center, but is expected to push Hroniss Grasu for the center gig in Chicago. Mar 30 - 2:29 PM

Free agent G/C Manuel Ramirez is visiting the Bears.

Ramirez turned 33 in February and can play both guard spots and center. He'd be a quality backup and could even push to start at the pivot.

The Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett reports impending free agent G/C Manny Ramirez is not expected back with the Lions.

Ramirez was acquired from the Broncos in a draft-day trade last May. A versatile interior lineman, Ramirez earned starts at both guard spots and center last season. The 33-year-old should receive interest as a quality backup.

Manuel Ramirez is expected to start at left guard for the Lions Week 2.

With RG Larry Warford (ankle) back from injury, Ramirez will slide over to left guard and rookie Laken Tomlinson will head to the bench. RT LaAdrian Waddle (knee) is also expected to play. The Lions' offensive line should be much improved this week.

The Lions did not acquire G/C Manuel Ramirez to be a starter.

After a dismal season in Denver, Ramirez was just a throw-in as part of Thursday's trade down, from which the Broncos emerged with Shane Ray, and the Lions emerged with Ramirez, Laken Tomlinson, the 143rd pick, and a 2016 fifth-rounder. Ramirez is a "swing" interior reserve, able to play both guard and center. The Lions want Travis Swanson to be their starting center.

Lions acquired C Manny Ramirez and picks No. 28, 143 and a 2016 fifth-rounder from the Broncos in exchange for the No. 23 pick.

The Broncos moved up five spots to grab Missouri LB Shane Ray. Ramirez split time at center with Will Montgomery in Denver last season, receiving negative grades from Pro Football Focus in both run blocking and pass blocking. Ramirez will serve as insurance in Detroit in case 2014 third-round pick Travis Swanson can't adequately replace outgoing Dominic Raiola.

Broncos signed C Manny Ramirez to a two-year extension through 2015.

A journeyman before landing in Denver, Ramirez has emerged as a rock-solid center after arriving as a guard out of Texas Tech in the 2007 draft. He was previously only signed through 2013. Ramirez has earned the trust of Peyton Manning and looks to be locked in as Denver's pivot for the foreseeable future.

Manuel Ramirez is expected to open the season as the Broncos' starting center.

A converted guard, Ramirez has quietly graded out as a top-eight center in Pro Football Focus' 2013 preseason ratings. Ryan Lilja was signed as insurance, but has experienced recurring knee issues following offseason microfracture surgery. Ramirez has a big opportunity in the last year of his contract.

Manny Ramirez is running as the Broncos' first-team center in the absence of Dan Koppen.

He's been promoted from Triple-A Round Rock. Lame jokes aside, it's not a positive development for Peyton Manning. Ramirez is a career backup, and was barely replacement level when forced into action at right guard last season. G/C C.J. Davis is the Broncos' other in-house possibility. The options on the open market are vanishingly thin. Former Manning teammate Jeff Saturday has already said he has no interest in un-retiring.

The Denver Post's Mike Klis expects Manny Ramirez to be the Broncos' starting center in the wake of J.D. Walton's ankle surgery.

Yikes. Ramirez is a career backup that has mostly played guard in his six seasons. He did start 11 games for the Broncos at right guard last season after Chris Kuper's injury, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 30 overall guard. John Elway would be wise to kick the tires on a free-agent market that includes Dan Koppen, Jeff Faine and Eugene Amano. Philip Blake, a 2012 fourth-rounder that missed most of his rookie season due to thumb surgery, is also an option.

Broncos re-signed OG Manuel Ramirez.

The 29-year-old Ramirez appeared in just two games last season. Only a backup-caliber lineman, Ramirez will have to battle hard to make Denver's roster.

Lions released OG Manny Ramirez.

Ramirez was a guilty party on a disastrous Lions offensive line from 2007-2009 before moving to a bench role this season. His release leaves only Calvin Johnson and Drew Stanton from the Lions' 2007 draft haul.

Lions OG Manny Ramirez is "down to his last chance," according to beat writer Tom Kowalski.

Ramirez is no longer competing for a starting gig with Rob Sims in town -- he's just trying to make the team. Kowalski speculates that the Lions may go with someone younger if Ramirez continues to show mental breakdowns in training camp.

Lions re-signed restricted free agent OG Manny Ramirez to a one-year, $1.101 million contract.

Ramirez was tendered at the original pick level, despite starting 12 games last year. He'd ideally be a backup as Detroit tries to improve its wretched offensive line and keep Matthew Stafford's head attached to his shoulders.

The Lions have assigned an original pick tender to restricted free agent OG Manuel Ramirez.

Ramirez, originally a fourth-round pick, started 12 games last season, mostly at left guard. He was one of the weaker members of Detroit's offensive line.
