Texans re-signed OG Kasey Studdard.
Studdard missed all of 2011 with an ankle injury after appearing in just four games in 2010. He started 14 games for the Texans in 2009. He'll provide depth at guard as reserve Thomas Austin recovers from a hamstring injury. Sat, Jul 28, 2012 10:22:00 AM

Texans OG Kasey Studdard will miss the season after undergoing ankle surgery on Friday.

Studdard projected as a backup for 2011, though it's still a big blow to a Texans offensive line that's been historically thin and brittle. Antoine Caldwell and Shelley Smith will compete to move up on the depth chart in Studdard's absence.

Texans LG Kasey Studdard underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday morning.

It was only a scope, so Studdard should still be fine for training camp. He had been leading a tight competition at left guard, so he'll have to be healthy to hold off Wade Smith and Antoine Caldwell.

Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that Kasey Studdard is the Texans' starting left guard.

Studdard started 14 games last year after Chester Pitts went down. He wasn't much of a downgrade, giving the line a boost in athleticism.

Kasey Studdard will be the Texans' starter at left guard, according to beat writer John McClain.

The Texans let Chester Pitts walk in free agency because they are high on Studdard. He's a cheaper alternative and should be just as effective. More athletic than Pitts, Studdard is a better fit for the zone-blocking scheme.

Texans signed sixth-round pick guard Kasey Studdard to a four-year contract.

The former Texas Longhorn is the third draft pick signed by the Texans. Studdard should provide depth in middle of the offensive line, a unit that has been a weak spot for franchise almost from day one.
